Today was my last official day in my department before I start my ICU rotation next week, and it was kind of sucky, and I’m having lots of feelings.

#I just came home and cried for 20 mins #for no particular reason #(​other than being hormonal and overwhelmed) #sigh #why am I like this #and what even is my problem? #resa rambles #residency #I do have some surgical on-calls until the end of may #but then I’ll be off surgery until December #which sucks #and also I have a lot of anxiety about at least 5 different aspects of all of this #which atm kinda overshadow my excitement to go to the ICU (which I used to love as a student) as an actual doctor #sigh again

Oooook let the gossiping and teasing begin…

Today I had the best time volunteering for a teaching project (which is led by our chief vascular surgeon).

That is, apart from the fact that we ran into some of our abdominal surgery attendings, who gave me a massive (verbal) side-eye for technically hanging out with the vascular surgeons in my free time. (Some of them don’t really see eye to eye, both medically and personally).

And I’m soooo sick of it, can’t I just try to figure out what I eventually want to do with my career without having to navigate a social and political minefield?

Cons of being an anesthesiologist: You have ADHD and will get distracted when there's a single extra beep on the monitor and you will leave your study material somewhere only relatively safe from the blood

I don't know if it was med school, residency, depression, or just the general and ever-increasing stresses of adulthood, but I feel like my potential for creativity and creation is dried up. I try to write, but I don't want to. I try to paint, but I don't want to. I went to all the trouble of hauling my old piano into the new house, yet I've touched it maybe 5 times. I was artistic once. I don't know where that part of me went. I am just so mentally exhausted all the time! All I have the cognitive bandwidth for is staring into space or sleeping.
