Absolutely! By far my favorite song on Will’s playlist. It’s called “Breakdown” by Tom Petty, and you’re right - it is the second to last song. Here are the first two verses, the ones I found most interesting:

“It's alright if you love me/It's alright if you don't/I'm not afraid of you running away, honey/I get the feeling you won't”

“You see, there is no sense in pretending/Your eyes give you away/Something inside you is feeling like I do/We've said all there is to say”

Which is…crazy, right?

The way I interpret Will’s playlist is that it spans over the five seasons, because even though it was released as promotion for season two (7+ years ago and it’s still relevant! That’s crazy!), the last ten songs at least didn’t make sense when I tried to apply them to the events of season two - “Breakdown” being the most blatant one (to me, at least). “Gooey” by Glass Animals is also another really interesting one - I suggest you check that out as well! I’d be happy to hear any thoughts you have on “Gooey” - but I digress.

Again, “Breakdown” is one of the most blatant songs on Will’s playlist to support his endgame with Mike. If it’s not endgame, this is the song I will be citing in my confusion.

i'll tell u what. it's not just 'if will was a girl everybody would know byler was endgame'. if mike and el had the exact same dynamic as they do in canon, but their genders were switched, everybody would see how unhealthy and unhappy their relationship is.

like: boy has been lying to his girlfriend about every aspect of his life for months to seem more desirable to her. girl represses her interests and neglects her friends to spend more time with her boyfriend / seem more appealing. girl actively avoids expressing that she loves her boyfriend. boy refuses to listen to girl when she tries to relate to his struggles by opening up about her own experiences with bullying.

You want a book that almost perfectly encapsulates everything that Byler has going on? Read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. I was rereading it for the umpteenth time after watching ST and truly some of the stuff was mind-bogglingly similar. Observe some paraphrased quotes (obviously spoilers ahead):

“What am I supposed to do? I don’t know what to do. Dante’s my friend. Dante’s my friend.” -Aristotle Mendoza, hella repressed angsty writer, has no idea he has feelings for Dante until the end of the book, the blue in this relationship

“7:1. That’s the ratio of Ari letters to Dante letters. I’m not going to analyze why you haven’t written back…” -Dante Quintana, artist, ray of sunshine, the yellow in this relationship, writing to Ari after moving from El Paso to Chicago for a school year (Ari has essentially not reached out at all, and even though Ari narrates the whole damn book, we have no idea why. Like, he doesn’t even know—not until the end). Has always known he was in love with Ari despite being with another guy for a bit

(Spoiler alert: Near the end of the book, Ari realizes he has had feelings for Dante the entire time, breaks down, then tells Dante how he feels.)

This is not even all of it (it’s just late and I’m tired). Even without very blatant parallels to Byler, I love this book and recommend giving it a read.

The big discourse on twitter right now is that writers going on strike or cancelling their own series are breaking an invisible “contract” they made with their fans and all creators owe their fans a satisfying conclusion to their stories. Actually all fans owe all creators for entertaining them and if a creator says “I don’t want to perform this labor anymore,” then regardless of the cliffhanger that leaves you with, your only response should be “take care! Thank you for all your hard work!!!” :)

WALT DISNEY PRODUCTION WORKERS NEED YOUR HELP!

Hey fam! The Mouse is refusing to recognize the unionization efforts of its production workers. If you're not familiar with what PAs or PMs do, I'll outline it briefly. The tl;dr is that NO ANIMATION WOULD GET DONE WITHOUT PRODUCTION WORKERS. They are the glue holding together every single production of your very favorite cartoons!

They take notes in all the meetings with the artists.

They make sure the artists are meeting their deadlines (and showing up to the meetings in the first place).

They help us navigate studio servers to find the files we're looking for.

They send us our time cards, and make sure we get paid!

Production workers do all this and more, often for minimum wage. The hardships that they suffer as a result--the long hours, the unpaid overtime, the abuses of power--are horrific.

You'd really think that they'd be compensated fairly for these jobs! Can you imagine trying to live in Los Angeles or New York on minimum wage with a job that definitely won't allow you time to pick up a second or third one??

This has to stop, and you can help.

All that Walt Disney Animation Studio's production workers ask is that you add your name to this petition! That's it.

I wasn’t in the tag yet either and I literally just learned about now because you posted about it op, but it gets me thinking.

(This was intended to be short but it got super long, so buckle up folks.)

*A Wrinkle in Time spoilers ahead*

Adding onto your post, I personally think (if this is just about S3 then take what I’m about to say with a grain of salt) that this could be a pretty interesting social media Easter egg if the writers are trying to imply that the very end of the show will parallel the end of the book AWIT. The book also poses so pretty interesting parallels to the book/movies It, given that in AWIT, the antagonist literally goes by “It.” Since ST parallels It, and they both seem to have connections to AWIT, this forms a very fascinating triangle/web of potential parallels hinting at possible outcomes for S5.

The main villain in all three of these stories destroy their victims by psychological targeting and dismantling them—Pennywise from It manifesting as the characters’ worst fears/nightmares, the “It” brain from AWIT possessing Charles Wallace and spreading evil across the universe and corrupting hearts and minds, and of course Vecna targeting people who struggle with mental health and generally weeding out the deeply rooted fears, insecurities, and secrets of his victims. Will getting possessed could very well be a reference to Charles Wallace’s possession, and “It” being described as a brain and “the source of all evil” reminds me quite a bit of the whole “Hive Mind” thing from ST2.

(What I find especially interesting about the whole “Hive Mind” thing and “It” being a brain is that it lines “without heart, we’d all fall apart” become a little more foreboding. Destroy the Hive Mind and you destroy the source. Destroy the brain and your body is dead—kind of hard to come back from that one. Destroy the heart, and we all fall apart. Hell, even in It by Stephen King, Bill kills Pennywise for good by ripping its heart out. We’ve all predicted that Mike is gonna get targeted next season, and to me, Will’s words only make that prediction stronger. Vecna has beef with Will and El, and the person with whom Will and El have the most shared history with is Mike. Vecna’s gotta know this by now. Target Mike, and both Will and El are out of commission, so to speak. You want to hurt both of them, then get to Mike.)

Anyway, back to AWIT. How do Meg and her friends prevail? How does Meg bring Charles Wallace back? Love, of course. True, unadulterated love, the love Meg has for her little brother. The kind of love that Joyce and Jonathon and Mike use to get through to Will when he was possessed in S2. And does anyone remember when Matthew Modine tweeted that “all you need is love” thing way back after V2 aired? (Please fact-check that—I remember it but I can’t get it because I don’t have Twitter.) Yeah. It’s gonna be love.

Only this time, it’s gotta be big. Huge. If you’ve already played around with the “love saves the day” trope, you need to crank it up to eleven for the big finale (pun kind of intended). And we know at this point that “love saving the day” is a trope that’s hella explored in ST. Mike’s monologue didn’t “save the day,” because our characters had to lose (as well as a number of other reasons that we’re already well aware of). So when love really does save the day?

I, for one, can’t wait to see it.

The book Suzie is reading when Dustin calls her on the radio is a fantasy book called A Wizard of Earthsea. It is pretty gay coded and also suggests that Mike accepting that he's gay is part of the key to defeating the UD.
