One of the things I really hate and get irritated about is how people paint their own unrealistic images of certain characters and believe them, yet still claim to understand those characters; however, their perception of them could not be farther from the truth.

A perfect case study would be Diavolo, who is constantly, and ever so casually, getting labelled as dumb — a 'himbo.' How do people create this nonsensical picture of him — Diavolo, the idiot — when his reality is far too different and obvious?

Now, I normally feel neutral about Diavolo, yet am at times inclined to dislike him for the very thing many don't seem to realise about him — and one of the reasons he is objectively so intriguing: his sly nature.

A lot like his desire for peace and apparent merriness, Diavolo's guile is a trait of his that's clear as the sun itself, one that adds admirable realism to his personality; for Diavolo, after all, is not merely a demon, but the prince of demons — heir to the demonic throne — and there will be a darkness in him that had been his own since birth, and had later on gotten sculpted and molded by his circumstances.

And while it's true that a dash of naivety and pop of innocence sometimes colour Diavolo's personality, he is not at all, and in any way whatsoever, an idiot; since, when it comes down to it — and albeit his positive qualities — Diavolo is a darkly cunning, extremely intelligent (and at times heartlessly manipulative) individual whose overt, bright characteristics form a mask that tricks people into believing or thinking otherwise (even when he doesn't mean for that to happen) — all as he intricately plans, carefully calculates, and craftily decides in the silence of night.

To conclude, Diavolo is a character with the scheming mind of a ruler, and a personality far deeper and more complex than that of a dunce. If anything, Diavolo is as much a king as he is a 'jester,' as underneath the bubbly layers of his demeanor is someone who conceals secret wiles and great loneliness.
