If it were a car, Pentious would accelerate and then, in a panic, pump the brakes so hard he bonks his head against the dashboard. Meanwhile, Betty straight up rips the brakes out and throws them out the window, only to realize how stupid that was and run after them seconds later.

Big shoutout to my friend who infodumped to me about how her snake was when shedding, which inspired a lot of this!

Fun fact: I learned during my own research that snakes basically go blind because the scale over their eyes is coming off too and gets milky. I did briefly consider this for Pentious, but because the scale protects their eyes since they don't blink and Pentious does blink, I figured it would only happen to his chest eye and previously tail eyes! Good lordy, with all the slithering, they do need some heavy protection...

And another shoutout to the fic "Warmth" by beababoobies. The line "Pentious loved touch in general - it was reassuring, nice, and it made him feel human all over again." truly has me in a chokehold. I knew he was human, of course, but oh. What if even he forgets it sometimes?

I'd also like to think Pentious suffers from body dysmorphia to some degree. He kinda got used to the change over the 130+ years of his afterlife, but it's still tough to try and desperately cling on to some sense of humanity when you suddenly don't even look human anymore, with the drastic changes you went through being seen as more "freaky" than desirable to add insult to injury. That's the short of it, my friends have witnessed entire essay-long rambles I've written about this sbdbdbf

PENNYLOUVERSE - CANON EVENTS AND FANON CONSEQUENCES

I've realized that some people who like my Pennylou comics may not have watched the show and as such, some blanks normally filled in by canon might escape them.

As such, here's a list of canon events you might want to know (in black) and headcanoned continuations/consequences of said events (in red) as a lot of them are left uncertain for now. BEWARE OF SPOILERS!

Exterminations:

a special group of angels called “exorcists” (sometimes “exterminators”) descend to Hell once a year to kill sinners with angelic weapons (the only type of weapon able to kill permanently - when killed by other means, sinners just regenerate/respawn) to prevent overpopulation and a potential uprising.

As we later find out, until the trial in episode 6 where Charlie, the princess of Hell, tries to present the case that sinners can be redeemed, only the exorcists (including Adam - the first man - and Lute at the top of their hierarchy) and Sera, the High Seraph (currently the highest rank in Heaven’s hierarchy that we know of - Lucifer could've been above them going by Christian lore but seeing as Hazbin lore differs in some ways, we don't really know for now) know of the exterminations. Sera is very insistent on keeping it that way as to not disturb the peace in Heaven.

After the truth comes out during that trial, many other angels, including Emily, learn of the exterminations. Emily is horrified, while other angels’ opinions seem to be split.

In my timeline, all the angels present at the trial have sworn under oath to keep the information confidential. However, that doesn’t stop rumors from spreading within some circles, especially after Adam seemingly disappears (having been killed in the battle for the Hotel) and Lute comes back lacking an arm. These rumors don’t reach Betty since she prefers to keep to her own and not stick her nose into matters that don’t concern her unless she can directly help someone, so she remains rather oblivious until told directly by Pentious who's lived through it.

Pentious as the first redeemed soul:

During the last extermination in which Adam's legion targets the hotel specifically, Pentious dies protecting it. Normally, this would result in a perma-death (and as such everyone who knew him believes he is in fact gone for good), but for reasons currently quite unknown, he ascends to Heaven instead.

In the Pennylou timeline, after Pentious arrives to Heaven in front of Sera and Emily, he is assigned a place to stay and allowed to roam free (under some degree of supervision for at least the first few weeks) but is advised not to reveal to the public that sinners can be redeemed as Sera feels the need to assess the situation first. For the same reason, he is not allowed to contact anyone in Hell to let them know redemption works until it is deemed safe to do so.

The "ex":

Back in Hell, Sir Pentious had a crush on Cherri Bomb, his archnemesis. They don’t end up together, but Sir Pentious does manage to confess his love and kiss her right before sacrificing himself.

While she does warm up to him by the end, in the Pennylou timeline (and true to Cherri’s character), she moves on rather quickly as they were never really together and she quite literally saw him die. Pentious, however, still misses her for quite some time. This gives Betty the wrongful impression that there was at least a bit more between them and she refers to Cherri as his “ex” rather than a crush.

What Pentious told Betty about after “Off my chest”:

The exterminations and how he died a second time

The hotel and redeeming sinners, as well as the friendships he’s made and how he misses Cherri and his Egg Boiz

He does not disclose much about his life before the hotel until much later if at all, as he doesn't feel particularly proud of his past.

Oof, this one almost broke me since A) Pen's crush on Cherri is a touchy subject for me and B) it's so sad to see my boy heartbroken, but he deserved that closure 🥹 I'm also quite proud of the writing in that one, hope you enjoyed it too. We're getting our first breakthrough towards mutual feelings 🤭

PS. Frank Jr is okay! While Emily bringing the eggies to life essentially transformed them into organic beings, I do like to think that them originally being made out of metal makes them a bit more sturdy, like hardboiled eggs maybe sbsbdbd

I think Pentious and Angel's dynamic should be more appreciated tbh. Honestly the whole "kinky pornstar vs. guy who clutches his pearls at anything remotely outside of what could be considered vanilla" thing is so freaking funny to me sbdbxbb

Have I ever told you guys that Betty makes most of her own clothes? It's one of the several skills she's honed in her 60+ years in Heaven :3c

Betty and Pentious have a bit of a different idea of what's "cool". Sweetly enough, Betty's idea is much closer to Pen's style when he's not TRYING way too hard to be "hip". She just loves him as is... if perhaps with a little extra pizzazz 🤭

(for transparency's sake, I will say that I've seen @nebulabunnyarts 's Pentious art and loved a lot of it! While my design was not intentionally copied from or inspired by them, I have to say that genius recognizes genius 🤝 Everybody put that man in a corset right now)

If you disagree please just skip this but I have been empowered by other posts to bitch about this because oh my god. As a fellow precious snake boi lover I am begging the Hazbin fandom to let that one stupid Sir Pentious joke die.

It was cute the first 1 or 2 times someone riffed on it but now whenever I see "because I [do sth] with everybody!" I just roll my eyes so hard I can see the back of my skull.

Doesn't help that the joke in canon is a display of possibly the poorest poor taste to have come out of this show (and one that is unequivocally so, unlike many other things that some perceive in poor taste but are more down to interpretation and assumption of the writers' malicious intent where there may not be one).

I get that a dark comedy is gotta dark comedy and normally I wouldn't bat an eye at it much but AH YES, have one character's SA be played for laughs then IMMEDIATELY have another face their abuser in a scene we're meant to treat seriously. Real classy.

The setup of rule of three where the third time he blurts out something he regrets is hilarious, like I laughed when he said that and when the instant regret hit him but then the door slammed shut and I was like "... they really just did that. What the fuck."

They could've shown him narrowly escaping. I dunno, let him hide in the bathroom or something because I get he kinda needed to be out of the picture so that the first guy Cherri sees isn't him and he can catch that L. But noooo.

And the thing is, it's not like the fandom lacks material to work with. Why they don't riff on Pen trying to confess his love then chickening out in ep 8 for example is beyond me. Or the absolute slapstick comedy of him blasting off again like Team Rocket. Or him being a little weirdo who watches people sleep. HE IS LITERALLY THE COMEDIC RELIEF AND has a lot of silly romantic material to base the fanservice content (like the "How would these characters confess to you" stuff) on, but they just HAVE to stick with that one awful running gag. Guys, he is so much more than that.
