Jane nodded as Maura talked. That horrible feeling in her stomach about another serial killer not going away when Maura said something Mechanical. She followed Maura’s finger and looked at the dog. “right.”
She glanced over at Korsak. “Hey, Detective do little. Maura needs the dog.” She pointed to the dog and watched her partner look. She smiled when he huffed about the name and walked off.
She followed a few steps behind careful not to cause the dog to run. She glanced at Maura. “I’m guessing he left the marks.” She said with a wink. Knowing Maura’s dislike of guessing.

Jane smiled at the gentle touch of her best friend and looked over at her shaking her head. It was kind of amazing how Maura simple presence was making this seem less suffocating. “I’m not really hungry. So, anything that isn’t vegan I guess.” She shrugged her shoulders but smiled at the joke.

Jane smiled and shook her head as Maura talked. “Nope Just wanted to really get away from Ma. Besides, she would have tried to go to the store and then would have carried it all back by herself.”

Jane felt herself blush at that comment and looked at her toes. “I doubt that, but if you think so I’m not going to talk you out of it.” She smiled shyly up at Maura and winked trying to get that cocky attitude back.

Jane nodded at that suggestion. That sounded nice. She knew her mother would like the gesture too. She had to add, though. “You don’t have to get the dessert, your kind of providing the house.” She winked at the other girl as she took the list on the counter waving to her Ma and heading out the door before she could say anything.

Jane dug in her bag and got out a pair of well-worn jeans and a t-shirt. She was dressed and sitting on the bed when Maura came out. She smiled at her and nodded her head. “That could be fun.” She agreed.

Jane smiled and stood up pushing her now empty plate to her mom. She nods to Maura. “Alright, Ma list?” Anglea scribbles down a list of things she needs as Jane grabs Maura’s hand and goes back towards the room so they can get dressed for the day. She didn’t notice the smirk on her mother’s face when she grabbed Maura’s hand.

Jane nodded her head and let go of Maura’s hand. But only long enough to get the wheelchair in next to her. “I know this is a broken record. But, I should have handled everything better.” She said softly. “I should have at least checked in on you.”
Maura’s brow furrowed slightly in confusion, her head tilting to one side as she looked at the other woman. “Why are you sorry?” she asked quietly, giving Jane’s hand a light squeeze. “You don’t have anything to be sorry for.”

Jane nodded her head and tried to not look as sad as she felt when no longer held. She slides to the side of the bed and used her elbows to get her sitting all the way up. She hated not being able to use her hands.
