So this piece is the “Pemaquid at Noon” and it is a 12 x 20. I like that shape canvas because it allows a little bit more of the composition fitting with the broad spaces that the sea provides. I’d actually like to do a very large pieces with the ocean vista. But one has to have a client first so I’m working on it. At any rate, you can see this piece on my website now with AR on your wall to see how it would look in your space along with a variety of other pieces that I have added to the portfolio. So yesterday I painted out on Pemaquid Point LIVE with the Plein Air Painters of Maine. I was a little late because I had a zoom meeting in the morning. I did a live session and painted a piece that resulted. They won’t let me post it to the IGTV but I’ll post it later today on my website. I shortened it down to 28 mins 🤷‍♀️ I often say that painting is like meditation you look at the surface then you look deeper than you look deeper then you look deeper and you get a greater understanding as you go. And not everybody is at the same level and that’s OK. It’s also a metaphor for life in general. First you look at the big picture and you can see all of the ocean and all of the sky and the rocks and then you break it down into smaller and smaller parts. Color and line and the composition and the way you want to focus your attention. And then you start working on the niggly details which would be like the tasks you would probably have in your day-to-day life but if you concentrate solely on the little niggly details you miss the big picture. Notes on the day: The parking lot was completely full, people were having picnic lunches and sitting on the rocks and watching the ocean. I slipped in between a couple of other artists who were already painting on the rocks. I didn’t interrupt them. It was a beautiful day as you can see and perfect weather couldn’t have asked for better. Light breeze and Cool air and yet warm enough that I didn’t have to wear my jacket. A lot of people milling around. I will put up this piece on Pemaquid at Noon when is finished and put it in the AR viewer on my site. So this morning I went back to #NewHarbor. As some of you know I did a small sketch late winter when the trees were still bare at this little location. I love those gnarly trees and little cottage. It has intrigued me over the past couple years as it doesn’t seem to mind the world passing by while it stays still. There’s a clump of Shasta daisies there in front or so I thought and I knew that they were getting ready to bloom so I thought I’d scope it out in preparation for a painting. So I went back early this morning to take a look and they just aren’t there. So I drove a little and was distracted by another location. The light was pretty flat this morning so it needs a little stew but I did decide on a composition at this location needs more surf 🏄‍♂️. As a side note… for the past couple of days I’ve been putting up a sign at the end of Stoneridge Ln on Rte 130. Recuperating each day. Today I finished the installation. I installed the post, and a very heavy bracket and sign by myself. I had to use bungee cord to tie on the bracket to the post while I attempted to lift it into place and then rapidly try to put some screws in and hold it in place while I took a break…. (See story) Now to wait and see how it fairs. I brought out a load of stone to add more weight to the 50 pounds cement base so 🤞. Curiously enough the post was the lightest thing in the ensemble. I had worried that I wouldn’t be able to lift the post. There are many hats to wear in running your own shop. So I have put up a piece that is from my archives into my portfolio called Morning Surf and I have put it into the AR viewer so you can view it in your own home on your own wall through the AR viewer. It’s a 14 x 30 available for sale at $5500. There is nothing like painting the surf on location where you become part of what you are painting. The wind and surf spray mix together with the cold morning chill all becoming part of the painting..... https://gallery.deborahchapin.com/shop-21 - Sometimes it's important to remind myself why I paint. I am so frustrated with Instagram and all the obstacles that these platforms create to your reaching the marketplace. First it is the good ole boys and now it’s algorithms. I’m attaching a redacted demonstration of my website without the buttons because Instagram refused to let me boost the last post. It’s pretty discouraging as a small business person trying to get my gallery seen at all with all the obstacles Facebook and Instagram have created to prevent small businesses from advertising. Instagram won’t let me boost a post with product tags in it 🤷‍♀️, won’t even list some posts with my paintings in them so that I can not boost them, and now they won’t let me boost a post with the video screen recording of my website. They create an algorithm with absolutely no ability to be seen by any new markets unless you advertise and then they prevent you from advertising. The little guys can’t do much of anything so I’m going to try and boost this post as a redacted demonstration but I can’t demonstrate the AR because it has buttons on it that move when I scroll. So I posted the demonstration video on my website on Page with AR Portfolio (menu) so that people will know how to use it. Best I can do, sorry. Well the opening day for my Studio/Gallery was really special for me. Lots of congratulations and kind comments from people. Talked to so many collectors on the long distance 📞 and via email. Really Great 👍 Thank you all so much. Coming up I’m painting LIVE at Pemaquid Point on the 25th at sunset. As some of you know yesterday I spontaneously tried broadcasting from Pemaquid Point to see if the new 5G was working and it worked so we had a spectacular surf last night it’s was just beautiful weather and the lighting was gorgeous. But my phone ran out of juice after about 15 mins. So I will give it a shot on Wednesday during the Sunset /Moonrise … Probably I’ll go live after I start painting and then crank it up as the sun sets. We had a great connection last night. Spring is really charging full speed ahead. The cold has slowed down the garden but my #blackparrottulips which were eaten down to the stubs last year all popped this week without a warning. As some of you know I started this piece 2 years ago and but last year I had a setback because of a critter (as yet to be apprehended) ate them right down to the ground. So what I did this year was I covered it up with netting and that worked and I’ve had loads of blossoms to work with. Some of you may have followed the story that I had posted on Thursday etc showing my progress as it developed and today I think I’m finished. I have to let it sit and look at in a few days. I am pressed because I have a lot of little pieces that I want to do & finish and also and the #irises, and #peonies are getting ready to pop and then the #Siberianiris and then the #Japaneseiris and then who knows what else I forgotten because I’ve planted a lot of things in my #paintersgarden #garden. So yesterday I went out painting with the #Pleinairpainters of Maine and they were all in Cozy Harbor on the deck by the restaurant and I chose to look back towards them from another location where there was an old shack. And then I got started on the painting and was told I should move my car and I thought well might as well move. So I went for a little tour around the end of the point Newagan point. Just a short jaunt, the peninsula was so long… 45 mins down from rte 1. Anyway the painting I started I decided I’d just finish up at the studio and I’ll post it when I’m done.
