Jervis was a chemistry teacher for the local college in Gotham; his wife, Alice, was the one with the Alice in Wonderland obsession. He wanted to understand her references, so he read the stories, and watched the movies with her. They had that together, and she would say that he looked like the Mad Hatter, and it would become a nickname she would call him. One day, Jervis comes home from work to find out that she's been cheating on him with his own co-worker... He lost his mind, unfortunately, and after bludgeoning them both to death with a croquette mallet he'd bought for Alice's upcoming birthday, he went missing, only reappearing to cause a mass panic in the storybook lane section of Gotham City Park. After that he's been in and out of Arkham for years...

If it's not a bother

Jervis and Jonathan were still villains during Carter's conception and birth, right?

Didn't Batman (and the rest of Gotham that weren't the rouges) find the Scarecrow's disappearance strange?

When Jonathan found out about his pregnancy he was still doing crime, but took a break for the next months. He really missed going out and using the fear toxin.

Jervis continued with his own plans and Batman interrogated him more than once about Scarecrow (because he has seen them acting romantically before) Jervis told him that he didn't have to worry, that he was taking some time away. That did not calm Batman, so he investigated until he found the whereabouts of both, noticed Crane's pregnancy and stopped paying attention to them for a few months

I admit I don't remember the name, just that the swamp thing appears at the end

But their names are Thorn (the oldest), Hazel and Rose (the twins), if you put their names it might help
