I will never forgive HOTD for making me sit through TWO Rhaenyra births and TWO Rhaenyra weddings…

But never having us see Alicent’s wedding or births. Scenes that would have forced the fans to confront the true reality of how despicable her situation is. It would force viewers to see a child, devastated, as she walks down the aisle to her creepy old man of a husband. It would force viewers to watch a little girl have a child. Completely unprepared and alone, crying for her mother and finding no sympathy. She has no father to protect her. No mother to guide her and comfort her. No husband who cares about her.

It would force team black to stop seeing her as the evil seductress, for even a moment. And see her true vulnerability. See how she doesn’t, and never did, want this. See how these are not consequences of her actions, but instead the consequences of the men around her that she has to suffer for them. Because they don’t care about her. Viserys doesn’t care about her.

These are scenes that are meant to bring sympathy to her character. To give Alicent a reason to be righteously angry at the family and system that broke her down and stole her childhood. It gives Alicent a valid motive to fight aside from fear. And it takes away the chances for team black to deny her suffering at least a little bit.

Because as the current narrative sits, it’s easy to ignore Alicent’s experience and warp it into a much more pleasant story. They see Alicent “seducing” the king and then she is already married. And then she’s pregnant and the babies magically appear. No screaming or crying or bleeding involved. All is good. The teenager definitely didn’t suffer at all. And by doing this some people can’t sympathize as much or they are given allowances to intentionally not sympathize.

Instead. The current narrative allows for Alicent to be the seductress, the crazed woman, the jealous bitch, and the villain. But if we saw what she actually went through. Alone, scared, suffering, neglected, and holding it all in. We would be allowed to see her as she truly is. The victim. Finally crushing under the weight of it all and lashing out.

(And the narrative would be all the better for it because instead of feminist icon team vs crazy trad wife and co (as far as team black sees it), we would have woman fighting against patriarchal narrative for her own claim vs woman fighting against patriarchal narrative to destroy the people who hurt her)

No, but if we stop to think about it, indeed the set up for the dance is so weak, specially when George had a better set up right then and there that he solved with the council of 101: Rhaenys vs Viserys. The daughter of the eldest son and heir vs the son of the second son. This should have been the configuration of the dance.

Then he had the second best set up: Rhaenyra vs Daemon. The daughter of the king vs the brother of the king.

He screwed over both scenarios and went with the worst one, one that would never really make much sense, especially when you consider the reasons why Rhaenyra was chosen as an heir (to avoid Daemon ascending to the throne). Not only Viserys fixed this problem by marrying again and having not only one, but three sons… Rhaenyra went to marry Daemon. Like, there’s no realistic scenario where she wouldn’t have been disinherited right then and there, or where the realm wouldn’t rally behind Aegon instead of her, especially when she fucked off to Dragonstone instead of trying to assert herself as heir and future queen in KL.

George just made really bad choices overall, that’s why the dance feels kind of weird and some plot points are very forced to fit into the narrative instead of feeling like natural consequences of what was happening.

One thing I find interesting about team black vs team green is that whenever team green talks about how Blood and Cheese was wrong, team black blows up their comments saying “an eye for an eye and a son for a son.” But the thing is… team black never was an eye for an eye. That’s the whole point. They never give back what they take. Had Rhaenyra or Viserys tried to make amends with Aemond over what Lucereys did to him, had Lucereys apologized and actually stopped mocking Aemond, things may have ended differently. If team black is so strong about a son for a son then they should understand Alicent’s demand that Lucereys eye be put out as well. As someone who is team neutral it feels like team black proves time and time again that they believe they are entitled to everything and are shocked when their actions have consequences.

The Eurovision song contest is facing intense scrunity and accusations of discrimination after it rebuked Swedish-Palestinian pop star Eric Saade for wearing a Palestinian scarf in the opening act of the semi-finals. Saade, whose father is of Palestinian origin, kicked off the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden on Tuesday evening with a keffiyeh, a traditional Palestinian and Arab male headdress, wrapped around his wrist. [...] In response, the organisers of the contest, European Broadcasting Union (EBU) released a statement saying it "regretted" that Saade wore the scarf. "The Eurovision Song Contest is a live TV show. All performers are made aware of the rules of the contest, and we regret that Eric Saade chose to compromise the non-political nature of the event," it said. Waving Palestinian flags, wearing traditional Palestinian garments, or if we're being honest, just being Palestinian, is now officially "too political" for Eurovision.

Literally, all Saade did was wear a keffiyeh around his wrist—while being Palestinian—and that was enough to get a statement from the EBU, and have his opening performance scrubbed from Youtube.

Those from Gaza are forced into degradation, made to bark, their screams of pain from being shackled and beaten piercing the thick air, compelled to sing Israel's national anthem, to shout "Am Yisrael Hai" in a mockery of their agony and identity. Sound becomes the solitary channel through which prisoners from diverse geographies perceive each other's existence, not through words exchanged after years of enforced separation between Gaza and the West Bank, but through the harrowing echoes of torture's heavy breaths.

The released prisoners from the West Bank descend into silence—a wounded, weighty, and shamed silence, burdened by the knowledge that their suffering, though severe, paled in comparison to that of their fellow prisoners from Gaza, leaving them traumatized by both their own experiences and the agony they could only hear. A trauma that is not traumatic enough.

We can scarcely fathom what Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh, a healer, a devoted doctor and surgeon—a man who steadfastly refused to abandon his patients—endured until his body could withstand no more. Alongside his fellow doctors in Gaza, he epitomized a profound dedication to his role and to his society, embodying the very essence of commitment in the face of unimaginable adversity, a doctor that we will remember through one sound only, the sound of his joy of saving another soul."
