Hi! I wanted to say that I really enjoy your work and I wanted to ask what got you into writing more taboo subject matter?

hi, thank you!! honestly it's kinda a mix of things. 1) psychology has always been a special interest of mine and, even more specifically, paraphilias and fetishes in general and how they sort've work and come to fruition, if that makes sense. i just find them insanely fascinating and i love to imagine what would have "caused" a character to develop one/multiple. bonus points if/when you get to see the thought process behind How they grapple with having a taboo paraphilia/fetish and/or how they justify having it and acting on it in the first place. also, i blame it on the autism, but i just REALLY love and appreciate getting an insight into a character's inner thoughts as they happen, sort've stream of consciousness style in a sense. 2) i've always Just Loved The Taboo and have had a fascination with that as well. i find it very sad that the concept of a taboo exists in the first place n that there's things we just deemed we Can't Talk About because its "bad" or whatever so.. thats why i like going into the details about it! somebody's gotta i suppose :) 3) idk it can be hot sometimes lol

i fully realize i’m swinging at the hornet’s nest here but ghost lore is so fractured and contradictory and borderline incomprehensible that to suggest there’s some elevated crime in writing or drawing a copia/terzo AU when we regularly ignore/make up other shit is just. dbsjdkkd. what

and what do we even consider canon? the stage shows? the chapters? promotional material like photoshoots and magazine covers? music videos? interviews? comic books? what about when those sources frequently undercut or contradict each other? which one do you prioritize? is canon important? what about fanon? who even cares????

remember how the mockumentary said (with apparent canonical certainty) that ghouls were actually resurrected papas? haven’t really seen anyone run with that one. and the ghouls are nameless and haven’t had alchemical symbols since, god, what? 2017? also not important to the fandom. primo seems to be schrodinger’s son depending on whether or not it fits the vibe the fan is going with. nihil’s implied outsider status in the dance macabre music video directly contradicts his father’s father speech in the chapters. this is all just calvinball!

no disrespect to tobias but ghost is at best a potpourri sachet of vague concepts and vibes that are 1) in frequent conflict with each other and 2) that the fandom seems to pretty freely cherry-pick to better suit their fanwork. “what if this guy wasn’t related to the other guys (which we’re not even sure about) and kissed one of them” is just an extension of that. if it’s not to your taste (w/e! live your life) that’s all well and good. i highly encourage you to block, mute, and avoid as needed. that’s exactly why we have tags like the one on AO3.

Your personal triggers and squicks do not get to determine what kind of art other people make.

People make shit. It's what we do. We make shit to explore, to inspire, to explain, to understand, but also to cope, to process, to educate, to warn, to go, "hey, wouldn't that be fucked up? Wild, right?"

Yes, sure, there are things that should be handled with care if they are used at all. But plenty more things are subjective. Some things are just not going to be to your tastes. So go find something that is to your tastes and stop worrying so much about what other people are doing and trying to dictate universal moral precepts about art based on your personal triggers and squicks.

I find possession stories super fucking triggering if I encounter them without warning, especially if they function as a sexual abuse metaphor. I'm not over here campaigning for every horror artist to stop writing possession stories because they make me feel shaky and dissociated. I just check Does The Dog Die before watching certain genres, and I have my husband or roommate preview anything I think might upset me so they can give me more detail. And if I genuinely don't think I can't handle it, I don't watch it. It's that simple.

Actually I'll never forgive Punk Rave and Killstar and fast fashion brands for tricking people into thinking that being goth or punk or emo is expensive. Babygirl the only goth brand names you need to know are Rit, Good Will, Etsy, and Studs and Spikes, we used to shove safety pins through our ears and then they started selling earrings that look like safety pins for 15.99. We used to dye thrifted wedding dresses black and they started selling gothic gowns for 300 bucks. We used to put studs on boots we found in the back of the good will and they started making Demonias. DIY or die wasn't perfect it can be exclusionary to disabled people but whatever the fuck we've got going on right now is so much worse. It's not any more inclusive to the disabled and it is exclusionary to the people who made punk, to the people who made goth, to the people who made emo. If you've got the funds and you don't want to do diy pay someone else to do it for you but please let it be a small artist or a friend not some guy in a suit who's made it his business to gentrify punk. You can turn flats into platforms with flipflops, hotglue and gumption don't let anyone tell you different.
