I had a question about how you rendered your Ta'mar script. When I try to do mine digitally, it never looks right. Btw your conlang is so cool :)
I used both Inkscape and Glyphr, laying out the characters inkscape and importing them into Glyphr for final edits. I do not feel qualified to speak on the best way to use these tools as it took me 6 tries to get it right and I'm still not 100% happy with it. My only tidbit of advice is to just remove all the overlapping points in Glyphr, it is so much consistent than anything I could figure out!
I really love the Cambrian for inspiration because you can never go too wacky! 5 eyed trunk monster? shure! Giant goddamn fish slug? Hell yeah! It really frees me from the same earth equivalent rut
Kinda wild seeing mainstream news outlets reporting on a newly discovered Cambrian superpredator this morning But I guess I'll take it???? This is Timorebestia koprii, a newly described stem-chaetognath from the lower Cambrian (Terreneuvian) of the Sirius Passet Lagerstätte in Northern Greenland. Definitely check out the full paper below.
For those familiar with Burgess Shale fauna, T. koprii appears to be a sister taxon to that of Amiskwia sagittiformis.
Though according to the Royal Ontario Museum's website, specimens of A. sagittiformis have only been found up to 25 mm, while specimens of T. koprii have been found up to 200 mm long (~290 mm counting the antennae)!
Princess Mononoke intro.
this was pretty easy to translate as much of the Ta'mar lexicon is already built around myths and legends revolving around spirits and nature
Classic Star Wars quote
I had to change around the words as some of the meanings would not have translated in the original phrasing
Across the great central desert you will find a interesting race of intelligent life, The Xerodromos!
Basic bio
the Xerodromos evolved from small wallaby like creatures that lived within the grasslands that surround Lake Sovat, over time they became more reliant on cultivating edible and freshwater bearing plants and eventually settled into warren like villages. Their intelligence is similar to a human despite their small size, despite their high intelligence many Xerodromos are extremely paranoid due to being a prey species.
they bear a very specialized “trunk” made up of the three forked finger like appendages at the end of their Bidromos ancestors long trunks, This trunk has two long and very flexible limbs on either side that serve as the primary manipulators, these arms have a five fingered hand at each end. in the middle of the face their is one large muscular lip that is used to cup food to their small beak that sits at the back or to dig through the loose desert sand.
Xerodromos have two long slit like eyes on either side of their head, the back portion of the eye serves so scan the horizon much like the eyes of a sheep or deer, the front facing section acts much like the human eye and is used to see detail and color. Despite serving two different tasks both sections share one pupil that is connected with a thin band.
They have long plantigrade legs used for hopping across the desert, and one smaller set of arms used for digging or to rest the body weight on much like a kangaroo.
Xerodromos have a short velvet like fur across much of their body, the color of this fur varies from individual to individual but is most often a light earthy color that blends in well with the surrounding rock. Within the grasslands some individuals have bands to better hide within the reeds.
Due to their highly unusual (and mostly immobile) eyes Xerodromos rely on body language, pheromones and most importantly movement of their trunk to express emotions.
I’m working on a conlang but I keep screwing up writing down the IPA sounds because of my goddamn nutmegger accent!!! It’s so annoying that people pronounce every T!
