I have a question for the fanfic writers among you: How do you treat your work in progress when a very similar story is put out there? Do you go on writing - in the spirit that everything is unique in its own way - or do you abandon the piece - in the spirit of preventing 'superfluous' contributions?

Let's add a further wrench into the process by saying the recently published work by another author, so similar to your own, seems so much better written than your own (granted we are always our own worst critics). Where do you go with that?

Maybe this is a question for readers, too. Do you mind reading similar works/story lines?

A question for fic readers:

You see, I've been considering creating a new AO3 account as a home for my unfinished works. These are works that I started a while back but never finished, and can range from 100-10000 words. They have to do with a bunch of fandoms as well, from Moon Knight to Hazbin Hotel and many in between. These works would be public, but will probably remain unfinished (though anyone would be welcome to continue/re-write). I am a bit hesitant, but I really like the idea of putting stuff out that, otherwise, would never see the light of day.

So I just found out I had the highest grade on my exam (96%) and it's such an ego boost. It's also definitely gonna fuck me up in the long term, cause I only read a few passages of the golden ass, and that'll set a really bad precedent for the rest of my uni years.

Reading papers, I really like how a few of them refer to Caligula as Gaius. Like, yeah, it's his name, but it feels like they're talking about an old friend. Oh, this is Gaius, and I'm gonna talk to you about why he did the things he did. Don't listen to Gaius (Suetonius), he's just making propaganda for Publius (Hadrian)'s court.

Lost Boys AU where Max is the only one that dies & Lucy just sort of...adopts everyone.

- David, Dwayne, Paul, Marko & Laddie are now Her Boys just as much as Michael & Sam.

- David calls her Lucy, Dwayne calls her Mrs. Emerson, Paul & Marko both call her Ma.

- Even Star is brought into the family & Lucy is beyond happy to have another girl around the house.

- The cave is still used for partying/hanging out/etc but for the most part they've all moved into the Emerson house. The attic windows were blacked out & the vamps sleep up there by hanging from wooden beams.

- Laddie had a bed up there too so he can "share a bedroom" with his brothers.

- Paul forgives Nanook for almost killing him and they are now Best Friends.

- Nanook essentially becomes their Hell Hound and positions himself outside the attic door during the day.

- Dwayne is Grandpa Emersons favorite because he isn't a pain in the ass & is good with cars.

- Sam wasn't really a fan of this new situation at first but eventually warmed up to it. Now he likes having five extra brothers (even if four of them are vampires)

- The vamps & the Frog brothers have a tentative sort of truce.

- Contrary to popular belief vampires can be photographed & Lucy gets a big family photo taken of everyone to hang up in the living room.

#i decided to choose which one saved the most money #cause a lot of these are really good #the toilet roll would be useful #i considered the pen but only it changing colour was mentioned #so it may not be my perfered in writing #cause i have a very specific pen and brand that i like to write with #(i am being very very literal to narrow down the choices) #the comb would save me money on shampoo and conditioner #but i enjoy washing my hair #the headphones are nice #but im going for the fruit drawer #not only does it save money by not letting forgotten food go bad #but it also prevents the food from creating that gross liquid that is left at the bottom #so yeah #that one #(this is an incredibly detailed account of my decision making wtf)
