The Ice Cream
Tumblr media
It's been a love affair from my first spoonful of ice cream. It was the simplest decision I'd ever had to make: give in my toy for ice cream at Chick-fil-a. In the spring, summer, fall, and winter, I craved ice cream whether I was happy, unhappy, or indifferent. I thought my long and intense love affair with ice cream was ended when I gave up dairy, but I quickly found how many other alternatives I have.
My first stop on my hunt for dairy-free ice cream options was the traditional sorbet. This dairy- and nut-free solution is also free of the majority of common allergens and tastes wonderful. Sorbet took a second place to ice cream for many years, but it is now available at practically any ice cream shop. It's really sweet, so it'll satisfy any sweet tooth. While it is not as creamy as regular ice cream, it is a great way to satisfy your sweet appetite while also quenching your thirst.
One of the things that drew me in was the creamy smoothness of the ice cream, which melts on my mouth. Although sorbet does not have this, there are vegan, soy, nut, and coconut-based ice creams with the same creamy texture and a range of flavors — chocolate, fruit, cookie, caramel, and more.

All of these new alternatives are excellent since they've found their way not just to the ice cream display in the shop, but also into grocery stores. Many major brand ice cream store chains sell pints and tubs of ice cream, thus Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's both sell dairy-free ice cream. Some of the lesser-known companies that sell dairy-free ice cream in supermarkets include Outshine, Coconut Bliss, Tofutti, and So Delicious. When you're at home, you may try out all of these different brands and flavors to see which one suits you best.
I've discovered a plethora of dairy-free options in the eight months since I went dairy-free. Vegan ice cream, cashew ice cream, coconut ice cream, and even a delectable nondairy chocolate salted fudge truffle ice cream are now available at Haagen-Dazs. The reality is that it is now much easier for people who are allergic to dairy or just choose not to consume it, such as me, to discover delectable substitutes to their favorite dessert. You don't have to give up a sliver of paradise to eat well and stick to your diet. The amazing world of dairy-free ice cream is just getting started.
"I adore raspberries," my friend said, waving a magical wand in the shape of a single finger. "You have to make some raspberry sorbet for me!"
Maybe those weren't the exact phrases or terms he used. "My favorite fruit is raspberries, and it would be amazing to eat anything with raspberries!" he may have said. I do recall mentioning that making such a sorbet went against the principle of my 31 flavors: I intended to create only flavors with a twist. There won't be any vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry flavors!
But, on the other hand, why not?
Regardless, I adore fruit. My favorite fruit is lemon. My favorite dessert is sorbet. I was also taken by the brilliant, luscious color of raspberries. I first resisted...sort of... and the rules I placed... failed.
