rewatching elementary now with the knowledge Jonny Lee Miller had started with his own sobriety and recovery whilst filming is honestly transcendent. He is so GOOD. he is gut-wrenching. The scene where Sherlock explains his sobriety feels like a leaking faucet that requires constant maintenance and offers only not to drip in return - jlm does this thing with his voice where he's on the verge of tears but bored all at once. He's wrecked by a feeling he's utterly sick to death of having. It's such a compassionate performance. On another level it is truly crazy to me that we have so many Sherlock Holmes adaptations so eager to make Sherlock an addict, but Elementary is far and away the only adaptation that does that and takes the addiction seriously. Perhaps in part because of JLM's real life recovery, but we'll never know. On a rewatch, it's a lot :')

if we are being honest, amongst the many problems with the watcher announcement is that I don't think what they consider high quality TV kind of content... really helped? I always loved Buzzfeed Unsolved, I could never get into Ghostfiles with their fancy toys and "audience" debunking and overproduced aesthetic at the expense of actual content (like historical facts and whatnot). I don't think it's a coincidence their hit shows are Puppet History (Shane going wild with DIY), Top 5 Beatdown (three people with three whiteboards talking shit) and idk, Too Many Spirits? Which, before they threw too mug money at it, was just them talking shit and drinking at Ryan's parents

Like. I don't approve but also I do not believe it's gonna improve their quality

this!!!! there are thousands of working creatives across the country who never had the resources that the boys had to start out with, who are working two to three jobs AND making the art/content they want to see in the world. I will always feel more empathy for that working creative than the guy with a fucking Tesla who wants more money so they can film themselves traveling and eating food.

I've seen more heart in productions made with $5 and a bag of chips than I have in movies that cost studios $5 million dollars. don't use "production quality" as a shield to hide behind

people are acting like we’re saying creators shouldn’t be paid for their work; they absolutely should. and watcher already is. they have a patreon, they get sponsors, their videos regularly get millions of views which gives them ad revenue, they sell merch; they are getting paid. feeling indignant and disappointed that they’re asking us to pay for content we were already getting for free isn’t entitlement, it’s expected. ​they wanted to make bigger produced shows and now their budget can’t sustain it, that’s not on the viewer to make up for
