I can’t spoil this one too much, but I will say it’s a codywanweek fic for the Day 4: Soulmate AU prompt (that I am desperately trying to finish even as it gets longer and longer, oops)

Fox raises an eyebrow at him. “Did you seriously stop wearing your kama because Obi-Wan said you have nice legs?” Cody’s ears burn. “That’s not—” “No, wait,” Fox interrupts, searching Cody’s face for something. He seems to find whatever it is he’s looking for, because his eyes light up with unrestrained manic glee. “It’s worse than that, isn’t it?” Cody prays for a quick death. Fox’s smile widens into something positively feral. “You want less layers between your legs and his when he pins you in a spar. Cody, you dog.” Scratch that. Cody will not beg for death. Not before he kills his ori’tat.

Last Line Challenge

@frostbitebakery tagged me for the Last Line Challenge, which comes from my Crechemaster Obi-Wan wip for @codywanweek & for context, this is an AU where a slightly-different Jedi Order works differently with the clones during the war, including in response to the attack on Kamino--

The Light Order never explained why they’d withdrawn, nor how they’d reorganized themselves in their "Year of Reflection," though it was apparent they had.  Master Farmers weren’t sent out on diplomatic missions before, even when the root issue was some kind of drought, and Senior Professors hadn’t been the people appearing in holonet interviews to answer questions about various Force holidays.  Nobody’d fully understood, before, that while the Jedi were a religious order who worshipped a very real supernatural force, they were also a horizontally and vertically integrated organization whose members comprised thousands of races, and who were self-sufficient in all the same specialities any polity would be required to be– and then some. They hadn't really needed the galaxy-- but the galaxy had learned that they surely needed the Jedi.

I'm not sure I'll keep this bit in, but in early drafts I always end up writing chunks of worldbuilding exposition so I can remind myself of the whys & wherefores-- but for now, I especially like the last two sentences.

little codywan snippet for this sunday afternoon!! from a draft for my @codywanweek fic weewoo (I am 4 months early)

“Ben, can I?”

Obi-Wan looked down to see Luke pointing up at a stuffed tooka-cat on a vendor’s shelf, turning the biggest, bluest eyes on him with a pleading gaze. He looked so much like Anakin that it hurt.

“I don’t know,” said Obi-Wan. “We can’t waste our credits, we still need to buy food—”

“Please, Uncle Ben?”

Obi-Wan wavered, his resolve weakening.

“I really need it,” said Luke in a tiny voice, sticking out his lower lip. Obi-Wan almost chuckled—he knew all the tricks from Anakin’s padawan days.

“What about your bantha toy?” he reminded Luke.

Luke frowned. “He needs a friend!”

Obi-Wan sighed, glancing up. Luke was, perhaps unsurprisingly, extremely convincing.

“Let’s check with Cody before we decide, alright?” said Obi-Wan, secretly hoping Cody would take the difficult job of telling Luke no. “Where is he, anyway?”

“He��s over there,” said Luke, pointing unerringly. Obi-Wan followed his gesture, and immediately went on alert.

Cody, cutting an imposing yet elegant figure in his armor, had his arms crossed across his chest, looking down at a stranger—a stranger who had their hand on his arm, leaning towards him with a flirtatious grin.

Obi-Wan frowned, his hackles raising. “Come, Luke.”

“I don’t like that guy,” said Luke shortly.

“Nor do I,” muttered Obi-Wan, tugging Luke’s hand and pulling him through the crowd. The stranger—who was entirely too handsome, Obi-Wan realized, laughed and threw his head back at something Cody said.

Without thinking, Obi-Wan scooped Luke up into his arms to hurry forward. Luke wrapped his little arms around Obi-Wan’s neck and held tight.

“—so interesting! Tell me more about your travels, won’t you?”

“Oh, um—” said Cody stiffly.

“Cody,” said Obi-Wan, a touch too harsh. “Luke and I have been looking for you.”

Cody’s helmet turned towards Obi-Wan, and he could see his shoulders relax ever so slightly. Obi-Wan turned a withering glare on the stranger.

“I don’t believe we’ve met,” he said pointedly.

The man’s eyebrow raised. “Just wanted to compliment your friend’s armor. It’s impressive craftsmanship.”

“Hm,” said Obi-Wan dismissively. In his arms, Luke glared at the stranger, his tiny face screwed up. “Cody, we had best be going.”

“Yeah,” said Cody apologetically. “Um, I better go—”

“Uncle Cody,” piped Luke, unlacing his arms from Obi-Wan’s neck. “Pick me up!”

Bless this boy, Obi-Wan thought, suppressing a chuckle as Cody acquiesced, collecting Luke into his arms.

“Hey, ad’ika,” he said fondly. “What do you need?”

“Uncle Ben said you’d buy me a tooka-cat,” said Luke proudly.

Cody chuckled. “A real tooka-cat or a toy one?”

“A toy one,” said Luke excitedly.

As he explained the toy to Cody, Obi-Wan turned steely eyes back on the stranger.

“My family and I had best be going,” he said. “Good day to you.”

“Meant no offense,” muttered the stranger, rolling his eyes.

“I’m sure,” said Obi-Wan waspishly.

On an impulse—probably a bad one—Obi-Wan turned back to Cody. He rested a hand against Cody’s upper arm, drawing him in and lightly tapping his forehead against the cool beskar of Cody’s helmet. He could faintly hear Cody’s quick inhale of breath, barely audible beneath his vocoder.

He pulled back, shooting an unnecessary but satisfying look of triumph at the stranger. The man slunk into the crowd, appropriately chastised.

Try it on someone else next time, Obi-Wan thought viciously. This one’s mine.

He shouldn’t think that way, and he shook the thought from his mind, along with the momentary weakness that had come over him, making him foolish and selfish. Cody deserved better, he shouldn’t—

“Ben, Cody said I can have the tooka,” Luke said proudly.

“I’m sure he did,” said Obi-Wan, unable to keep fondness from swelling in his heart.

“C’mon, Uncle Cody, it’s over here!” said Luke, pointing to the stall they came from. Cody chuckled, shifting Luke into his right arm and hiking him up. Luke grinned, delighted, and nestled his head in the crook between Cody’s armor and his helmet as Cody carried him towards the stall.

The sight was almost unbearable, and Obi-Wan’s heart ached with the urge to reach out and touch.

Well, as long as I’m being foolish, thought Obi-Wan. He slid his hand down, lacing his fingers through Cody’s and letting their shoulders bump against each other as they walked.

Cody’s hand squeezed reflexively, fingers tightening deliciously around Obi-Wan’s. His helmet turned towards Obi-Wan, and he desperately wished he could see Cody’s expression instead of blank transparisteel and beskar.

After a long moment, Cody cleared his throat. “Let’s see about getting you that cat, huh, ad’ika?”

(would you believe that they’re. they’re literally not even in a relationship yet??? they’re just on their usual bullshit like ‘oh totally platonic behavior’ 🙄 dumb boys.)
