Personalised Music
By: Keertana Setti
Spotify has revolutionised music streaming in ways that Pandora and other apps haven't yet managed to match. Spotify develops a thorough understanding of its consumers in order to provide a wholly customised experience that keeps its users interested. Utilising information about the kind of music people listen to in order to provide recommendations that match the user's preferences is one of the unique ways that Spotify continues to please users. For instance, each user of Spotify receives a fresh "Discover Weekly" playlist every week that features unheard songs in their preferred genres. By providing consumers with the ideal platform to do this, Spotify keeps customers coming back to it on a frequent basis to discover more music. Another personalisation example by Spotify is, The Only You Campaign. Each user sees content about their favourite artists and potential new favourites that is personalised for them. Users receive the right level of personalisation from the Only You campaign because of the data-driven design that prevents them from feeling as like their privacy is being violated by the app. Spotify is still at the forefront of app customisation on both mobile and desktop platforms, as evident by their Only You campaign and other initiatives.

AI in Genetics
By: Prisha
Doctors can detect people’s faces using a smartphone app which is powered by Artificial Intelligence, which is more accurate than doctors. It creates a list of ten genetic mutations which a patient may have which is not easy for doctors to recognise. The app was created by US Biotech company Facial Dysmorphology Novel Analysis (FDNA). It can identify rare genetic disorders using photos of people’s faces.  It detects the shape of the patient’s face, eyes, nose and mouth to pinpoint recognisable characteristics and patterns in facial photos of patients to determine a possible set of rare genetic disorders.

Can AI discover new maths?
By: Bhargav
Mathematicians have collaborated with artificial intelligence for the first time to suggest and verify new mathematical ideas. The research was conducted in partnership with the Universities of Oxford and Sydney in Australia, as well as DeepMind, Google's artificial intelligence business. While computers have long been used to create data for mathematicians, the work of discovering intriguing patterns has rested primarily on the mathematicians' own intuition. However, according to the University of Oxford, it is now conceivable to produce more data than any mathematician can realistically anticipate to examine in a lifetime. This is where machine learning enters. Mathematicians from the University of Oxford established a startling relationship between algebraic and geometric invariants of knots using machine learning patterns, creating an entirely new theorem in the subject. Meanwhile, the University of Sydney exploited the AI connections to get close to proving a 40-year-old hypothesis about special functions called Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.

More than 1 billion hours of video are seen on YouTube every single month by nearly 1.9 billion viewers. On the site, producers submit 300 hours of content per minute. It makes sense for YouTube to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline operations given the volume of users, activity, and information on the platform. Here are a few instances of artificial intelligence in action on Google-owned YouTube:-
Automatically remove objectionable content

“Hey google, what’s the song I’m humming?” - Just hum to search the song stuck in your head!
By: Preet Verma
Don't you get annoyed when you have no clue what the song stuck in your head is? Well no need to stress! because, in October, Google Search unveiled a brand-new feature called Hum to Search that allowed users to find music by just humming them. This method, in contrast to others, directly extracts a melody from a song's spectrogram without first producing an intermediate representation. With no need for a MIDI or hummed version of each track, the model can now match the melody of a hummed song to the original (polyphonic) recordings. With the help of this technique, the Hum to Search database is much simplified and can be updated on a constant basis with embeddings of original recordings from all around the world, including the most recent releases. Quit stressing and getting distracted by that one song and find out what it is! This convenient app is at your fingertips as you can just click the microphone icon located at the side of the search bar. You can ask, “hey google what’s this song?” This artificial intelligence component is one that everyone will find useful!

the wonders of Sophia’s mind
By: Shubh Puranik
Hanson Robotics, a Hong Kong-based business, created Sophia, a social humanoid robot. After being activated on February 14, 2016, Sophia debuted in front of the general public at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, USA, in the middle of March. Sophia has been featured in numerous high-profile interviews and has been covered by media outlets all around the world. Sophia received Saudi citizenship in October 2017, making her the first robot to have citizenship in any nation. Sophia became the first non-human recipient of a United Nations title when she was designated the organisation's first Innovation Champion in November 2017. Sophia was first activated on February 14, 2016. The robot, modelled after the ancient Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, Audrey Hepburn, and its innovator's woman , Amanda Hanson, is known for its human-like appearance and behaviour compared to former robotic variants. As of 2018, Sophia's architecture includes scripting software, a chat system, and OpenCog, an AI system designed for general logic. Sophia imitates mortal gestures and facial expressions and is suitable to answer certain questions and to make simple exchanges on predefined motifs. Sophia uses speech recognition technology from AlphabetInc. and is" designed to get smarter over time". Its speech conflation capability is handled by CereProc's textbook- to- speech machine, and also allows it to sing. Sophia's intelligence software is designed by Hanson Robotics. The AI program analyses exchanges and excerpts data that allows it to ameliorate responses in the future.

Detection Technology
By: Aryaman Kumar
AI uses nowadays include the virtual filters on Snapchat and the FaceID unlock on iPhones. The latter relies on facial recognition, whilst the former uses face detection technologies to recognize any face. Over 30,000 invisible dots are projected by the TrueDepth camera on Apple iPhones to produce a depth map of your face. Additionally, it takes a picture of the user's face in infrared. The scan of your face is then compared to previously stored facial data using a machine learning technique. In this manner, it can choose whether or not to unlock the device.
Apple claims that FaceID automatically adjusts to alterations in a user's appearance. These consist of the use of cosmetic cosmetics, the development of facial hair, and the use of headgear, spectacles, or contact lenses. The Cupertino-based tech behemoth also claimed that there is a one in a million probability of deceiving FaceID.

Undercover AI
By: Aarushi Koneru
Snapchat Lenses apply 'Lenses' to a person's face using the Viola-Jones algorithm.
Targeted advertising is a further application of AI in social networking platforms like Snapchat. Instead of just hitting the maximum number of users, the app enables advertisers to choose how much engagement they want from Users in return for precise ad space. Recent reports suggest that Snapchat intends to use AI and ML to proactively detect 88% of drug-related content, avoiding drug trades by influencing measures in their algorithms.
Who would have known that a simplistic chat and filter app would offer many hidden features?

Training machines to talk with mankind
By: Clifford Edwin
Modern day chatbots use a programme called “NLP(Natural Language Processing)” which allows the machine to comprehend human language. A chat bot replies to the users using prebuilt scripts and machine learning. Using data collected from users, Chatbots can learn to communicate more fluently. ChatBots don’t actually understand what the user has messaged them, instead using keywords and patterns to generate an optimate and appropriate response. Cleverbot was created by British AI scientist Rollo Carpenter and uses a method called “crowdsourcing” to learn to communicate.

Ok Google
By: Shayaan Qadari
Google Home makes up for its less-than-pristine audio quality with a feature that other speakers don't have, and that's its ability to both receive and send Google Cast signals, making it the only audio device that can not only stream music from your phone, but send video streams to any Google Cast-compatible .This means you can ask your Google Home speaker to give you the weather report, lower your smart thermostat for you when you leave your home, tell you a fact, or have it find the funny YouTube clip that had you in stitches last night and send it across to your Chromecast.
