We are bringing you a familiar name this week with, (Zacari). His name might ring a bell because he is one of three features on the new Kendrick Lamar album, DAMN. A new resident of Los Angeles, Zacari has been very busy since touching down in the sun filled state. With a ever growing fanbase on Soundcloud, Zacari has been able to make it onto three Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). Zacari has worked with Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad and now Kendrick Lamar. Zacari’s consistent appearance on TDE albums begs the question, “will he joining the TDE roster?”. With four songs on Soundcloud over 150,000 plays, Zacari will be a name we will be seeing a lot of in the near future. This week we bring you a single from Chicago native, and Chance The Rapper collaborator, (Knox Fortune). Knox Fortune gained notoriety for his production and back vocals on Chance The Rapper’s, futuristic bounce song, “All Night”. Knox has contributed to fellow Chicago artists Vic Mensa, Kami, Joey Purp, producers Smoko Ono and Papi Beats. The SAVEMONEY affiliate is definitely on the rise cementing his dynamic artistry early. His recent release, “Help Myself” is a 90′s guitar lead record that tackles the ideas of life and love. Bouncing between, “All Night” and “Help Myself” a music fan cannot help but smile at the versatility in Knox Fortune’s music. Beginning with, “I was gone for a minute, but I’m back now!” Logic acknowledges his long hiatus from music before jumping into this title track. The last project from Logic was Bobby Tarantino in July of 2016. With a new year upon us Logic has released his title track to his highly anticipated 4th studio album, Everybody. Not much is known about the upcoming album besides the release date, scheduled for May 5th. The title track, “Everybody” has Logic discussing his biracial upbringing and his struggles in America. The title track focusing on the chorus, “everybody bleed, everybody need some, everybody love, everybody know” reminding listeners, we are all made of the same thing. This week we bring you a project from Chicago native, Femdot. This young MC has been active on Soundcloud gaining notoriety in Chicago for his impactful punchlines, thoughtful rhyme scheme and unique sound. Years in the making Femdot’s, 20/20 hour is a compilation of four separate EP’s the MC has released throughout the year. Thoughtfully planned Femdot released the first installment of this series titled, fo(u)r. The following EP’s were released in descending order, thr(we)., to(u). and (u)no. The final product is, 20/20 hour which combines all four EP’s into one complete, 17 track, project that plays masterfully. Femdot attacks each instrumental with his thought out flow and unique character. We took a break last week to give us all a chance to connect with friends and family over Spring Break. As much as we hope you enjoyed your hiatus it is time to get back to work!
Our spotlight artists is one we are certain you have heard before, Smino. Representing St. Louis, Missouri the 25 year old rapper is breaking industry norms with a voice that is truly unique and flows and rhyme schemes that constantly have you second guessing yourself. Our spotlight focuses on his debut album release, blkswn. The 18 track Monte Booker produced album has features from fellow Zero Fatigue members; Ravyn Lenae, Bari and Jay2. This album flows wonderfully from top to bottom having you question when one song ends and when another begins. Smino prior to his debut album release, blkswn, released two EP’s in 2016, S!ck, S!ck, S!ck and blkjupitr. Young rising R&B singer, Khalid is taking the music industry by storm with his debut album, American Teen. The 18 year old singer from El Paso, Texas is bringing a new sound to the industry by combining a mixture of retro soul with new wave production. The recent high school graduate has the sound and emotion behind his voice speaks to a more mature and seasoned veteran. With notable songs, “Location”, “Let’s Go” and “Saved” it is not hard to find your favorite off this 15 track project. The project is focused around Khalid’s youth and the importance his youth has played in his life. Khalid tackles love, money and fears opening his soul to listeners. Not many know the name, (Jean Deaux), fewer are aware of the musical impact this rising artists will have on the culture of music. Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Jean Deaux, is gaining momentum as both a vocalist and rapper being able to cleverly structure rhyme schemes that compliment her singing voice. The EP in discussion above, Outer Body is a small tease of work that follows up her debut project, Solar System. Outer Body EP is a three track project accompanied by features from fellow Chicago natives, Ben Hixon, Sean Deaux and Michael Anthony. Although short in duration, Jean Deaux’s Outer Body EP leaves you intrigued into what the young artist has to offer. Not much matches the unbelievable beauty that is, (Ravyn Lenae)’s voice. This Chicago native has made a big statement with the release of her EP, Moon Shoes. With production from Monte Booker, Ravyn Lenae entrances you with songs like “Moon Shoes” and makes you feel like you're back on the playground with “Recess”. Her versatility shines with songs like “Free Room”, a bouncing vocal driven record that has you dancing before the first chorus. An artist with such versatility is a refreshing thing to see in a music landscape that is saturated with similar beats and sounds. When discussing our spotlight artist for this week one word comes to mind when talking about (Ben Burden), mysterious. Not much is known about this rising producer, singer/rapper, other than his content. “The Concrete Maze” is Ben Burden’s first full release outside of his singles that can be found on his Soundcloud page. The composition of the project consists of R&B/Soul, with tremendous instrument orchestration that takes hold of you from the moment you press play. If the weight of the intense orchestration does not grab you the content of the song will. Ben Burden speaks on love, ego and spirituality addressing each in a gripping fashion.
