This is Amelie’s work for the dawn project. She has created a little boy called Tom who is on the first ship going up to the planet. He is reading survival guide or something that has been created by one of the colonists for kids to read. This has the logo on the front. I love how cute and innocent this little boy looks, you can tell this from the big glowing eyes and the little plaster on his nose. I love the bright colours used for his clothes and can really tell that this was from the 1920s.

As this was a class project everyone had their own little mini project to design to all come together and form and create the main project and theme, i felt unsure about this when the project was getting briefed to us, this is because everyone has their own ideas and styles that they like so I thought it would take off in all sorts of directions and create a really jumbled messy final piece, but by the time everyone was completed with their designs and work it come together to create a really strong and realistic outcome.

Another piece of work that I love is halime’s, halime had a job to create a cult that was created from some of the first group of people going to this new planet, I think she has done an amazing job creating this and the story, this really makes you interested in the character and how they act. I really love the enlistment halime creates within her work and the detail she can create with the use of different brushes. I think she has done a really good job at making this look evil and complete opposites to the planet and people they moved with, this cult has a much darker theme going on and just looks scary and dangerous especially because of the shards of glass stuck in her head

This is some of Zara’s work, these are the logos for the two different groups going up to the new planet I love the simple design to all of these, it shows that it’s a bit more futuristic especially the second lot compared to the first shows the evolution of the two different groups going. I feel like these logos fit perfectly to the exploration of space etc. this is because of the planet looking shape as well as it’s giving a feel of brightness and hope due to the sun like shape that would be drawn when you were younger.

I then looked at the different planet and environments that are in the game destiny 2 I thought that this would be good to look at because they have a very bright and alien like style which I really like, definitely also has a futuristic feel about it, something that we’ve not really seen before. Destiny Is a great game for inspiration when creating new planets and alien form and creatures. I really like how they have a very realistic environment using very simple rocks and trees but given them funky colours to give them that alien look about them.

guardians of the galaxy

morag

Morag is an oceanic planet located in the Andromeda Galaxy at the Eclipsing Binary Star M31V J00443799+4129236. Some inhabitants of this planet were the rodent-like Orloni and aquatic crocodile-like creatures.

Xandar

Xandar is the homeworld of the Xandarians and to many other species as the capital of the Nova Empire with a population of twelve billion. Xandar was located in the Andromeda Galaxy.

I have looked at these planets from guardians of the galaxy to get a good idea of what life is like on different planets as well as what can be found on these, xandar is good to look at as you can see what life is like for humans living on a new planet, as you can see they have definitely settled in have made a good city to live in, the good thing about what they have incorporated into this city is the nature. They have a lot of natural open peaceful spaces around the city just full of grass plants and trees which is very good as they are making it a health planet to live on as well as not ruining what they started with. This city does look like a massive green house which I love.

i then went on to colour in the cabin design so it looks more put together, i again went for a simple colour design using block colours, this again is because i don’t actually know how to texture yet. although because this is a modern cabin design i feel as if it doesn't look as bad using block colours because modern architecture is much more simpler than older building so the simple block colours work out nicely. 

i tried to add some stone work in like i have done previously but this makes the building look like a Dalmatian and gives of a funky feel which would work on a new unknown planet.

this design is much more modern compared to the last ones, i thought this would work anyway because it would be like the evolution of settlements on the new planet. so when they first get there the people will build something just to live in but as time goes on and they have gathered more resources and researched and found information out about the planet they can build something that will be nicer and will fit with the planet better, as well as something eco friendly to what the planet wants.

this is the process of making the cabin as an 3D model in maya, this was very simple to create because it is mainly just cubes extruded out. i like the simple design, because it i feel like sometime when things are simpler they come across as more Modern. i couldn't actually add a transparent window in maya so i just left it a whole in the wall and would add something in unreal if i was too export this.

cabin 2

this is another cabin design i have sketched out and designed, i got some inspiration of cute little cabins off of pinterest and saw a photo which sparked some inspiration. this is different from the other designs because it has a much more modern look, but i could see this being made eventually on this new planet. i also added in an interior through the window and it has a very cosy open feel which i feel is what you usually feel in new modern cabins.

so i then added colour to the house, these are just lamberts from maya and i just picked one colour that i thought would work for it. as much as block colour is sometimes good i feel like for this project it doesn't look great, and this is why i want to learn to texture in my fmp.

cabin 1

i actually forgot to take screenshots of the process, but this is the final piece without any colour. i created this in maya, and most of the main building just started as a cube and has been extruded out to make the base shape.i then added in the details which are the little patio, the door and all the metal panels. the metal panels and screws took the longest because of all the duplicating and changing the sizes. but this really completes it and really makes it look like the drawing. 

one thing i think i could improve for this is maybe adding lining around the edges, just a small lisp around the roofing to really bring it together.

cabin design

i have designed a simple cabin that would have been made when the people arrived at the planet so they have somewhere to live. i liked the idea of using the metal scraps from the spaceship they came in. this will help them in not having to take as long gathering resources as well as helping the buildings stay together and giving it more structure and stability. the colour ways is very muddy and i feel this is good because it is showing rust and implies that that the metal is old and worn.

i have designed some more trees, i find these look more supernatural and magical which i think would fit in place on the alien planet. i really like the curvy tree design as well as the magical orb in the middle which creates the shape of the tree. the magical orbs have small fireflies flying around in them which i really like, makes the planet seem very magical. i went for a more willow tree look with these because of the hanging leaves, this makes it look like a layer of snow is on top of the tree.

i have changed the original colours slightly so i have more variety of trees that can be seen in different parts of the planets. also so they are not all the same trees and they can mix well. i went for some bright vibrant colours that will stand out but also some pastel colours so there is balance between them.

foliage trails

I have designed some plants that I could see being found on the new planet that will be explored. I gave the plants a variation of different colours, this is so that they can fit in anywhere on the planet. I wanted this planet to be very colourful, in bright neon colours but also have pastel colours, I think its balanced quite well. I want this new planet to be full of wildlife and foliage, this is why I have done some trial sheets on them. 

I have also made a tree using cherry blossoms and bonsai trees as references and took it to another sheet and recoloured them so that I have more variety of what colour would be on this planet.

tree house

these are the tree houses that I have sketched, as trials. i thought when moving to a new planet they are going to have nothing so they are going to have to find and use new resources they have never seed before. i thought that building and living in tree houses will be easier and more reliable instead of building a whole new home. i also think this would be safer than living out in the open because they could be a risk of an attack from new unknown creatures and environments. this will take less resources to gather to make so i think it will be more useful of the resources.

houses with metal shutters. i am looking at these beacuse i feel like i could create some houses that have metal used to create them, this is a very modernised looking building which has metal shutters to close off people balocnys to give more privacy and saftey, its just like having an outside blind.

these trees are from cat in the hat and i wanted tolook at these because i am going to be creating the enviromental parts of this project and new planet, and i thought these were good examples to look at because of the colourful funky looking tops, that look very nice to tuch and fluffy, they also have thin lomg trunks that hold up these light looking tree tops, these are also very bendy and curvey adding to the fun and funky style that dr seuss’ creates.
