Over all thoughts on the Percy Jackson show (rant)

Very underwhelming. Like why do the characters know everything? There is no suspense or mystery it’s just dialogue. I understand that I’m not the age demographic for this show but still….children can piece things together they don’t need to be spoon fed the info. I thought the cast did really great and I really liked Sally Jackson and how they added more to her but overall the show was just meh to me. Also if I was Percy before he found out his mother was alive I would be devastated that she’s “gone”…idk maybe that’s just me? Literally Clarisse is more upset about her spear being broken then Percy is “losing” his mom. NONE of the monsters were scary or even menacing to me in the slightest (again not the age demographic). Hades realm looked cool asf like deadass fuck Olympus compared to the underworld. Also Ares was great idgaf is he’s the bad guy he’s easily one of my faves. I also feel that Gabe wasn’t enough of a douche bag to warrant him to die. Like he’s just a bum with a gambling addiction who is a bit of a dickhead like yeah he sucked but not ‘perish at the hands of Medusa’ suck. I didn’t like the trio constantly splitting up. Literally 90% of the show they’re split up. Also how did this show cost like 15mil per episode and it looks like this and the writing is like this?????

Overall this was a fun show and I like it infinitely better than the movies but I think I just hyped myself up way too much for a kids show.( I’m also not like a diehard fan or anything I read the books once when I was 13 bc I thought they were neat)

Saw ‘The Iron Claw’ and omg I walked into it totally blind. So I had dated and indie wrestler a couple years ago (watching them cut promos and verbally rehearse the “fights” was so accurate and honestly was the best part of wrestling to me bc I appreciate the art and the amount of work that goes into it) so I’ve heard names and stuff but I didn’t know the extend of this family’s story and it absolutely gutted me. I also understand there are inaccuracies to the actual family but just like the irl Kevin Von Erich mentioned it’s a film for entertainment. It really did the brotherly dynamic very well and the grief hit me like a truck. Like I don’t have super duper close relationships with my siblings but seeing the mother just become more and more empty and the scene where she’s procrastinating going to the funeral because of her dress was too real. I had a very similar experience with my mom when my brother died and she basically shut down so seeing that just really did me in. All performances were amazing and this film has definitely cemented Zac Efron for me like please give this man his flowers fr. All in all this film was gut wrenchingly amazing to me (idk I’m a psycho who loves any film that makes me cry and this one made me sob).

I love love LOVED the new Evil Dead Rise movie. I haven’t felt this enthralled by a horror movie in a while and it was nice. The acting was great especially Alyssa Sutherland as the mother she absolutely killed that shit.

I took my BF who hasn’t seen the other evil dead movies and his reactions were so good

When Kassie fucking impaled Bridget through the mouth my fucking jaw dropped like I wasn’t expecting the little girl to be the one to hurt her sister especially that severely like holy shit

When Beth slammed the door shut when the mom was in the hallway me and my Bf were like “yoooo she said fuck the little kids in the hallway” and then 5 secs later we see them get fucking murdered

The cold open was phenomenal I will always have a fear of getting scalped and the title card reveal was badass

Finally rewatching the hunger games since it’s been put on Netflix and honestly forgot how fucking awesome they are. Like to me these are truly the only dystopian YA series that I think can stand the test of time there is so much commentary that the series makes about capitalism and war and politics and I’m honestly here for it and always will be.

And here are some things I just wanna comment on:

- I forgot how much I don’t like Gale like I’ve always had bad vibes from him since I was little but he’s just really irritating and he has no sympathy for the girl he “loves” and all the shit she has gone through.

- Stanley Tucci eats every scene he is in and steals the show

- Haymitch and Effie are so underrated and honestly had such fucked up lives like imagine being assigned to be district 12 mentors when they literally NEVER win and have to try and muster up the energy to make a connection to these kids who are basically dead the moment their names get pulled and not to even mention that fact that Haymitch probably had to do this with no mentor that had previously won (sorry idk if 12 had any winners before him) AND has to be tortured every year getting dragged out to be a mentor to these doomed children and honestly I can’t blame Effie for he kind of insensitive comments about how they can eat dessert and enjoy their time at the capitol bc she has to watch them die and she just wants them to try and enjoy something before they ultimately get brutally murdered.

- As much as I’m not the biggest fan of Elizabeth Banks she honestly was the best cast to play Effie like I cannot imagine her to look or sound like anyone else. I mean tbh all the castings were really good
