The TikTok-fication of Tumblr and why it needs to stop before your fave writers are gone for good:
1. โ€œPart 2??โ€
Unlike TikTok, writing 5,000 words for a fic does not happen in 6 seconds or more. Weekly updates are from a writer who spoils you and is passionate about their story. Donโ€™t kill the passion by demanding for more and not appreciate whatโ€™s already given.
2. The DC Conundrum
Many writers on this platform hail back from the ff.net days where dark content is a norm, not like TikTok where even death has to be censored or you could get flagged.
Despite that, writers are doing you a service by sharing fic warnings despite how it may take away from a plot twist or a big reveal. However, thereโ€™s a fine line between sharing warnings and downright spoiling our own work. Heed the warnings, donโ€™t be a dick. If you donโ€™t like it, donโ€™t read it. Learn how to filter your own content, too, while you're at it.
3. The Wild Algorithm
Unlike TikTok, Tumblrโ€™s FYP is not in your face and you have a choice to not view it. Content often gets buried a few days after itโ€™s posted without reblogs or comments to keep it alive.
4. Passive Content Consumption
Ties back with point #1. If youโ€™re only sitting back and reading works without supporting the writers, they canโ€™t spend 6 seconds to conjure up a fic. Writing takes time, editing, proofreading. Tumblr is a book club, not a delivery service.
5. De(constructive) Criticism
If an opinion isnโ€™t asked for, donโ€™t give it. Many writers choose this craft for their own enjoyment and to share a thought or story about a beloved character to those who love them, too. If an opinion is asked? Be kind when you share it across to them. No one likes their hard work to be shat on by someone who doesnโ€™t understand the time and effort it took to create this piece.
6. Are You My Content Machine?
Again, back to point #1. Writers have busy lives. There are days when we want to scream into the void about our favourite characters. We want to share our thoughts about them or sometimes, we just want to talk about what happened during lunch break. Demanding and expecting that a writer post content without giving a shit about the soul behind the screen? Dehumanizing.
Donโ€™t ruin the experience for those of us who are still here. Do your part to make fandom better for everyone.

fanfic writers, hereโ€™s a friendly reminder that you are not less of a writer if you havenโ€™t posted anything in years, you are not less of a writer if your works arenโ€™t as popular as other writersโ€™, you are not less of a writer if some trolls left you rude comments (they either just want your attention or are simply intimidated/threatened by your talent), you are not less of a writer if you write short one-shots instead of a 100k novel-length fanfic, you are not less of a writer if youโ€™re not satisfied with your writing (I promise you itโ€™s so much better than you think, you should be proud of yourself), you are not less of a writer if youโ€™re not comfortable posting any of your works at all.
you are always as valid as any other fellow writers out there.
another reminder: fanfic writing is not a competition, and itโ€™s not a job. donโ€™t put so much pressure on yourself. always remember, the point of writing fanfictions is that we get to have fun, escape reality into the world we create in which we can write anything we want.
it stops being a getaway and a safe place the second we treat writing fanfic as a job or a competition. no, youโ€™re not writing for anybody. youโ€™re writing for you. this world you create is just you and your blorbos. have fun. itโ€™s your getaway.

There's a version of the "don't go grocery shopping while hungry" rule specifically for writers where you should never under any circumstances be allowed to touch your draft within 3 hours of reading a really good story. Because sometimes when you read something great your head goes "fuck this is so much better than my stuff I should make that more like THIS instead!" Look at me. That's the devil talking and you should close the document NOW.

" You think they saw us ? " aisha whispered, grasping her clutch to her waist as lando winded a hand around her waist and guided her up the steps of the ritz-carlton.
He snorted against her and placed a kiss on her exposed neck whilst plucking the keys of her Porsche from her hand to drop them into the obedient valet who stood patiently for them.
" I would be worried if they didn't "
His words seemed to work as a prayer, impromptu flashes and unintelligible shouts surrounded the couple who merely squeezed closer together whilst aisha glanced apologetically at the worker who was navigating the crowd with her car.
" You summoned them, " she hissed into his ear, smiling at the odd, matte black barrells that were aimed at her.
Lando chuckled, raising a hand up to take her chin into his grasp and pressed his lips against her cheek, his mouth raising into a cheeky smirk, " yea well, they're rabid dogs. "
She hummed in answer, laying her forehead against his shoulder tiredly, " can we go in now ? " aisha whined, her vision blurring at the startling beams of light increased tenfold.
Lando nodded, glancing down at her, " lets go. " he tutted his head in acknowledgement at the paparazzi before taking her hand and guiding them through the threshold of the resort.

" Date number 3 and they've just begun to post about us " aisha giggled down at her phone and twisted her wrist to show the man who sat in front of her the app.
" Is that what these are ? " lando grins back, " I just thought I was getting to look at a pretty woman for a large fee. " he shrugs as he leans back and takes in the late evening city scape.
The sprawling metropolis sat alight beyond them from the perch of the dinner table, the glistening lights from the various buildings illuminated the private meal from the rooftop restaurant they shared.
" A large fee ? honey, it's payment for being able to look at a pretty woman "
He laughed at that and reached over the table to take her hand in his whilst running his thumb over the gentle idents of her knuckles, " hmmm " he kissed each finger purposefully, " I guess you're right. "
" You've changed norris. " aisha cocked her head affectionately as she slipped her fingers out of his hold and ran them through his curls.
" I would hope so. last time we were together, we were just 15 years old. "
" You know what I mean." she sighs, " drivers are meant to be man whores, sleeping around and arrogant while they do it. you're nothing like what I heard. "
" And here I thought you were focusing on your career. "
" I am- but it's hard to ignore the journalists. "
Lando leaned back in his chair before jutting his foot out to nudge her heeled one, " well then lucky me, " he leaned his head onto his palm whilst the other came to wrap around his empty wrist, " because I'm perfectly happy with you. "
" You're too much of a flirt for your own good, " she arched a brow at him from over the rim of her wine glass, the sweet and perky alcohol slipped down her throat slowly as his eyes watched the nape of her neck like a python and its prey.
" You fell for it. " he argued, hazel eyes glinting.
" Fell for it ? jury's still out on that one. " she slid out of her chair, pushing away from their empty plates as she sauntered out towards the lip of the roof, pristine glass protected her from the far drop as a cool breeze swept by.
The gold silk of her dress rippled, and the swooping cut of her back tickled the dimples of her hips whilst the thin chain skimmed her spine. Leaning forward, aisha braced her elbows on the glass before she glanced behind her and bit her lip at lando who was approaching her from his place.
His shadow overtook her space as he leaned down to her ear and whispered, " never got the opportunity to appreciate your outfit tonight, " his fingers trailed down to the seam of where the fabric embraced the arch of her back, " it's perfect. " he purred.
" I never fuck up an ensemble norris, you better learn that quick. " she twisted in his hold and tucked her nose into his neck, " it's best for you. "
" yes ma'am " he mumbled against her.

HOW TO GIVE PERSONALITY TO A CHARACTER
Giving personality to a character is an essential part of character development in storytelling, whether you're writing a novel, screenplay, or creating a character for a role-playing game. Here are some steps and considerations to help you give personality to your character:
Understand Their Backstory:
Start by creating a detailed backstory for your character. Where were they born? What were their childhood experiences like? What significant events have shaped their life? Understanding their past can help you determine their motivations, fears, and desires.
2. Define Their Goals and Motivations:
Characters often become more interesting when they have clear goals and motivations. What does your character want? It could be something tangible like a job or a romantic relationship, or it could be an abstract desire like happiness or freedom.
3. Determine Their Strengths and Weaknesses:
No one is perfect, and characters should reflect this. Identify your character's strengths and weaknesses. This can include physical abilities, intellectual skills, and personality traits. Flaws can make characters relatable and three-dimensional.
4. Consider Their Personality Traits:
Think about your character's personality traits. Are they introverted or extroverted? Shy or outgoing? Kind or selfish? Create a list of traits that describe their character. You can use personality frameworks like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or the Big Five Personality Traits as a starting point.
5. Give Them Quirks and Habits:
Quirks and habits can make a character memorable. Do they have a specific way of speaking, a unique fashion style, or an unusual hobby? These details can help bring your character to life.
6. Explore Their Relationships:
Characters don't exist in isolation. Consider how your character interacts with others. What are their relationships like with family, friends, and enemies? These relationships can reveal a lot about their personality.
7. Show, Don't Tell:
Instead of explicitly telling the audience about your character's personality, show it through their actions, dialogue, and decisions. Let the reader or viewer infer their traits based on their behavior.
8. Create Internal Conflict:
Characters with internal conflicts are often more engaging. What inner struggles does your character face? These can be related to their goals, values, or past experiences.
9. Use Character Arcs:
Consider how your character will change or grow throughout the story. Character development is often about how a character evolves in response to the events and challenges they face.
10. Seek Inspiration:
Draw inspiration from real people, other fictional characters, or even historical figures. Study how people with similar traits and backgrounds behave to inform your character's actions and reactions.
11. Write Dialogue and Inner Monologues:
Writing dialogue and inner monologues from your character's perspective can help you get inside their head and understand their thought processes and emotions.
12. Consider the Setting:
The setting of your story can influence your character's personality. For example, a character who grows up in a war-torn environment may have a different personality than one raised in a peaceful, affluent society.
13. Revise and Refine:
Don't be afraid to revise and refine your character as you write and develop your story. Characters can evolve and change as the narrative unfolds.
Remember that well-developed characters are dynamic and multi-faceted. They should feel like real people with strengths, weaknesses, and complexities. As you write and develop your character, put yourself in their shoes and think about how they would react to various situations. This will help you create a compelling and believable personality for your character.

fruit cutter hearts - ls2
in which she likes pretty fruit platters and he likes her just as much wc: 816
Tumblr media
logan hates the summer. well, hate is a very strong word, but itโ€™s not his favourite season ever.
he may be from florida but heโ€™s convinced his skin wasnโ€™t made for the summer sun, and he hates the way it makes his front of his head hurt when he stands under its burning glare for too long.
he hates the way the fruits taste a little too sweet then, sometimes too overripe, and he hates the way the scent of barbecue clings to his body, closer to him than his own skin.
he hates the way the beach feels like a place to go out of obligation, not for fun, and he hates the way everyone seems to love it but him.
he hates the vacation romcoms that are released during the summer season, and he hates the way couples look at each other on the sidewalk, their hands held tight, their faces sun-kissed and their gazes love struck.
but all thatโ€™s changed now - and he has to thank for it, he supposes.
because, sometimes, when youโ€™re walking side by side on the street together, heโ€™ll catch a glimpse of your reflection in a summer sun-lit window. normally, heโ€™d furrow his brows and turn away because of the glare but now he keeps his eyes trained on your reflection and when that goes too far out of sight, heโ€™ll look at you and a lazy love drunk smile inevitably stretches across his face.
when he turns to his right at the beach, where he typically sees an empty stretch of sand, thereโ€™s you, tanned and smiling and glowing. he wonders if that clingy feeling is normal, if itโ€™s ordinary to feel like a piece of him is complete because youโ€™re there.
and when he tastes the sweetest fruits, he canโ€™t help but love how your face lights up at its flavour. you always manage to love the best in the littlest, most mediocre things.
he loves the fruit platters you make whenever a friend invites you over to their house, fruit cut out into neat pieces and little shapes, a colourful constellation of stars and crescent moons, hearts and flowers.
like now, as the platter falls to the marble countertop with a clang, and you slide punnets of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and cherries onto the bench next to it. your face is flushed red from the humidity of the floridian heat, loganโ€™s shirt tied up around your waist.
you havenโ€™t had a day this hot in months and thereโ€™s nothing you want more to have the cold weather back.
logan sits on a stool on the other side of the bench, popping a handful of pitted cherries into his mouth.
โ€œhey, donโ€™t do that,โ€ you grumble, but you canโ€™t hold back the laugh as he takes another bite. โ€œstop it, lo! there wonโ€™t be enough to fill the plate.โ€
โ€œone last one,โ€ he insist by offering a strawberry to you, tapping it lightly against your lips to tell you to bite. your teeth sink into the soft flesh of the fruit, and when the sweet juice trickles down your chin, he grasps your jaw to wipe it away with his thumb. the gesture is saccharine and innocent, nothing you wouldnโ€™t expect logan to do but you canโ€™t stop the flush that creeps up your cheeks.
โ€œthank you.โ€ you turn your head out of his grasp, but his grip is strong and heโ€™s pulling you close to press a kiss to your lips. you melt into his touch, his mouth warm against yours, and you can taste the cherries still lingering on his lips.
logan draws back first with a quick peck to your cheek. โ€œcome on.โ€
he hops off the stool and rounds the bench to stand behind you. he reaches around you to start spreading berries on the platter. thereโ€™s something so domestic about it, the way that he arranges it so that thereโ€™s enough space for other fruits or that thereโ€™s not too much of one colour in one area, and you know that heโ€™s doing something that he normally dislikes with you because you like it. so you turn around in his arms, and rest your chin on his shoulder. โ€œi love you,โ€ you whisper.
he furrows his brows in confusion as though to ask what he did to warrant the affection, but he reciprocates the sentiment. he bands his arms around your waist, kissing you slow and deep, all the while careful not to touch your clothes with fruit-stained hands.
it takes a moment, but you still jokingly push him away, grabbing the first thing you grasp - which, lamely enough, was one of your fruit cutters - and wave it in defence. โ€œlogan sargeant, get your dirty hands away from me, or iโ€™ll cut you.โ€
โ€œwith heart-shaped fruit cutters?โ€
but itโ€™s then that he knows if you ever break his heart, heโ€™ll let you do it over and over again, so long as you do it with fruit cutter hearts.
authorโ€™s note: that was so much fun, iโ€™ll see you guys again in another three weeks :) this is the angst you said you wanted btw @disneyprincemuke i was gonna make them break up but i decided against it
@namgification @queen-aria-things let me know if youโ€™d like to be added to the general taglist!
