Started classes today. It's so weird going back to school after almost a year - this past yearI kinda felt like I was free from it all despite planning on going back. I hope to crush this bitch

i stumbled across this painting because of the Obama portraits that just came out and it just makes me so emotional for some reason? According to the artist it isn't supposed to be about his death - his stance is supposed to portray him as "a thinker" - but at the same time the artist did use a photo of JFK's brother standing at his grave as a reference. Bc of that and idk I thought this even before I knew about the reference, it kinda feels like the subject is Jackie's grief and the American people's grief reflected onto the image of him? Ya know?

I don't even know a ton about JFK, I don't really remember from learning about him if he was moreso objectively good or not. But at least the artist did an amazing job of making you feel like you're looking at a fallen colossus who was like taken too soon and truly left a sense of deep loss in the whole society he left behind. Like with how you can't see his eyes anymore it's like a memory that's already fading but the viewer is trying so hard cling to it.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again but it is absolutely an example of civilizational inadequacy that only deaf people know ASL

“oh we shouldn’t teach children this language, it will only come in handy if they [checks notes] ever have to talk in a situation where it’s noisy or they need to be quiet”

#!!!! #I've been wanting to learn ASL for ages #equality especially when it comes to disabled people in our society has always been a huge value that was instilled into me like my whole #life from my parents #I'm actually kinda surprised my mom never taught me asl #bc she knows some #she only taught me fingerspelling #but yeah I'm gonna try to actually start learning it this year #i tried back in 2020 i learned a couple things #anyways #asl

things I’ve done recently to help me cope with my cringe brain

put hooks on my door with my keys, mask, watch, public transport card so I don’t forget them

putting more hooks on my door for my meds. and also hooks on every wall surface

tracking my energy levels throughout the days for two weeks, then scheduling my work, naps, and coffees around the peak hours

calling up old friends I’ve fallen out of touch with to see how they’re going

having a pseudo capsule wardrobe in a basket so I can throw on a cute outfit every morning with no effort

having random baskets and open boxes everywhere to dump stuff so I don’t clutter the floor

jumping on every creative impulse no matter how dumb. would not recommend for exam season tho

do you wish you had a friend who does [insert cool thing here]? you’re that friend now, everyone let's go have a 19thC picnic in the park

stacking aesthetic if not relevant books around me to stimulate the study juice

installing a very effective app and website blocker on all devices (scheduled to block throughout the day)

wearing fuzzy slippers and a comically large puffer jacket inside

joining my city library’s many zoom book clubs. and just lots of zoom clubs

doing what I call the Scream (yelling into your pillow for therapeutic reasons)

doing discord pomodoro study sessions with friends. it motivates me to work bc I get to chat afterwards!

vitamin D and iron pills. my blood so deficient in the everything

doing at least one “touch grass” activity a day, aka something involving the outdoors, making stuff with my hands like cooking or crafting, going for a walk. sometimes it feels like you’ve made no progress especially if it’s all digital or mental work

forgiving myself for being a major mess. you’ll get thru it girl

Why can't I just start on homework and projects at a normal time like a normal person? why do I always end up doing so much at the last minute? I always try to look back at the week to try to figure out why I didn't get more done earlier but half the time I just can't figure out where the time went??

I am in pain, suffering, even

Right now I'm working on a 2k word paper that's due tomorrow night - and the thing is I was in this exact position last year - I wrote an entire research paper in like 2 days you'd think I would have learned better. I remember a few weeks ago I was like I have to start working on that paper next week and then Monday happened and I completely forgot the paper existed until I remembered yesterday

I have tried so many ways to stay organized and I always fall off the rails when it's most important and a million things pile up I hate this life

wasting the hours 8am-12pm: a philosopher’s morning. wisely savors the ephemeral relaxation of the long day’s beginning. wise men take note and follow suit.

wasting the hours 12pm-4pm: the psychopath’s deed. no true means of redemption, but the barest start is 50 lashes self-flagellated. guarantees both failure in this life and damnation in the next.

And of course still catching up on everything

I'm getting an A in my easiest class but currently failing one and I have a c in another. It's mostly because I never do the discussion boards on time so I don't get any credit for them. I hate that I did this to myself and that I'm so behind

At least my notion is full of pretty pictures and my favorite characters
