Got bored. Played with the Liquify feature on Photoshop; pulled his face on the sides and flatten his head. Fix the angle of his nose, jaw, and lips... at least I hope I did a good job. Just wanted to see if I can get him as close to RE8's Chris.

Highlights of the Vendetta novel

Now that I’ve translated the novel and had the time to comb through everything and analyze it, I’ve created a list of highlights. If you want to read the novel, you can find the English translation I made here. 

Nadia is canonically a lesbian. She lives with her partner in San Francisco. Although we don’t know her partner’s name, we know she has a butterfly tattoo. 

Nadia joined the BSAA after seeing all of the BOW incidents happening across the globe, and she wanted to be involved. Originally, she was part of the SWAT team with the LAPD. 

Leon is very obviously struggling with mental health. I felt that was pretty clear in the movie, but it’s depicted with a lot more detail in the novel. He’s pretty much passively suicidal and most certainly struggling with alcohol use disorder. 

Its 9 AM when Chris and Rebecca find him at the restaurant/bar in the hotel and Leon is already so drunk he’s on the verge of throwing up. He got drunk again to try to cure the hangover from the night before. It’s explicitly mentioned that he does this often so he doesn’t have to think about everything he’s been through. 

Rebecca serves as an advisor for both the DSO and the BSAA, this is how Leon knows her. 

Chris, and the rest of Silver Dagger has read Tristes Tropiques, a Levi-Strauss novel, because it was one of Arias’s favorite novels

Aaron, who works in the lab with Rebecca, has a crush on her

The book specifically describes Chris as “like he was built from stone” meanwhile Leon is described as being a “pretty man” who looks like he could be a Hollywood model. 

The lodge Leon is staying at is said to be pretty rundown, it’s also in the middle of nowhere practically. The novel mentions that it’s very close to Castle Mountain, which is about 2 hours outside of Denver, Colorado. 

post-Vendetta Maria is out for revenge on Chris, Leon, and Rebecca specifically (this is why she returned in Death Island since it is a direct sequel to Vendetta)

Arias is a lot more unhinged in the novel, he talks about burning people and torture… it’s fairly gruesome 

While Leon and Chris still have the little disagreement in the bar, once Rebecca leaves to go to the bathroom, Chris and Leon talk privately about everything they’ve been through. Leon is especially upset about having to kill Benford and Chris tries to comfort him by saying he did what he had to do. 

Patrico doesn’t die from the shootout, instead his skull is crushed by Diego. 

The shootout was also more than just a shoot out, Leon and Chris hid behind the table together but in addition to being shot at, they also threw 5 grenades at them. Before Diego kills Patrico, Chris tries to stop him by shooting at him and both Chris and Leon end up getting tossed across the room. 

Its specifically mentioned that Maria is enhanced and her abilities are like that of Wesker’s 

Arias was a former CIA operative but he turned arms dealing, “Glenn Arias” is his third alias. 

Leon wasn’t the only one riding a motorcycle, Damian rides another Ducati and him and Leon take out the zombie dogs together. 

Everyone always memes the scene of Leon “killing families” when he’s trying to kill the dogs but the people in the cars were actually Arias’ men, who were shooting at Leon and Damian, so Leon was intentionally trying to kill them.

Maria then shoots and kills Damian and hit the fuel tank of Leon’s bike, causing it to catch on fire and catch Leon on fire, he had to roll across the ground to put it out

Leon calls Chris “tough guy,” it’s cute

Overall the novel is exactly what it set out to be, a novelization of the movie. It plays out pretty much the same, but the novel is more detailed.

Alien Franchise - Ripley’s tank top was named as the inspiration for Jill wearing a tank top since Capcom enjoys the “women in horror movies wearing tank top” trope, Sherry in RE2 was inspired by Newt, RE3R’s coffee shop “Coffee Shop Sigourney” was named after Sigourney Weaver and the logo is similar to the USCC’s from the movie, there’s a poster for it in the subway station in RE3R, both Luis’s death in the OG4 and Tyrell’s death in 3 are references to the Queen killing Bishod with her tail, Nemesis’s second form was made to resemble the Xenomorphs, Mikhail Viktor’s actor was in the movie.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The dinner scene in RE7 was inspired by the movie, the Hunter intro from the original RE1 was inspired by Leatherface dragging the bodies across the floor

Leon: The Professional - Inspiration for Leon’s namesake, both his name, his gun’s name (Mathilda), and his license plate for his jeep came from this movie

Terminator 2: Judgment Day - The shotgun reload animation from RE2 was the same way Sarah reloads her shotgun in the movie

Terminator 1: An edited parody poster for the first film is on the subway walls in RE3R.

Little Shop of Horrors: Plant 42 from RE1 was a reference to this film according to interviews.

Mission Impossible - Staff for Death Island were told that Leon can do anything Tom Cruise can do in the Mission Impossible movies

Jaws - served as the aquatic inspiration for Death Island

Alone in the Dark - was named as the inspiration for the Camera angles in the original 1996 RE1

The Shining - the Spencer Mansion was originally inspired by the Overlook Hotel from the movie, Leon stays in Estes Park in Vendetta which is where the Stanley Hotel is (the Overlook Hotel in the book/movie).

Dawn of the Dead - Mikami named this as negative inspiration for the series saying that he didn’t like aspects of the movie and wanted to make sure RE didn’t do that

The Thing - Quint references the movie in RE5 and the dogs split their heads in half the same way the alien dogs do in the movie

Sweet Home - Both the game and the movie are what served as the main inspiration for RE, which was originally intended to be a  sort of remake of the Sweet Home game, but then Capcom lost the rights to the IP and reworked some things, resulting in Resident Evil

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - the scene in Death Island where Chris and Leon defeat the mutated Dylan by shooting the gate closed was inspired by the way Luke kills the Rancor in Episode IV.

Return of the Living Dead - CV’s inspiration, especially with the graveyard scene

Evil Dead - Jack yells ‘Groovy” when he grabs the sheers in RE7, quoting Ash

Pet Cemetery - was the inspiration for the zombie dogs

Cujo - also inspired the zombie dogs

Top Gun: A parody poster for “Air Combat 1492″ is on the subway walls in RE3R.

Risky Business: A parody poster for it is on the subway walls in RE3R.

La Femme Nikita: Ada’s design was based on Nikita’s character, and the start screen for the original Separate Ways was a nod to the poster for the series.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers: When the Ganados point at Leon and tip their heads back, it’s the same way the aliens communicate with each other in this movie.

Speed: The bus in RE2 and RE3 is called “33 midtown” which is a reference to the bus being “33 downtown” in Speed.

 Lost Souls: The “Hook Man” character from a scrapped build of the original RE4 was inspired by Maya’s hallucination scene in the movie. This was confirmed in an interview with Yasuhisa Kawamura.

 Jurassic Park: Served as the visual inspiration for “Fused Dylan” in Death Island according to the movie booklet.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon: Inspired early drafts of Death Island where it was intended to be a “zombie shark” movie with elements similar to Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Species (1995): According to the production information from the original RE2, this film is where they got the inspiration for “male victims” to be used as “breeding tools” for the viruses.

Psycho II: Norman plays Moonlight Sonata on the house piano the same way Rebecca has to in RE1.

Black Hawk Down: Leon likens the Lanshiang mission from RE6 to a “zombie version of Black Hawk Down” in the Vendetta novelization
