A group of armed survivors approached the woman, they wore shirts with the words 'WABE Atlantic radio' , the looks on their face were angry looking. "We heard you're the one who shot our favorite reporter..." The ring leader said.
❝Reporter? Don't you mean traitor? The bitch was a danger. A liability. Wouldn't want it to spread.❞

[ that was mostly metaphorical. and his words,
ever so stuttered, weren't assuring. or trustworthy. ]
❝Okay-- okay. Now, tell me if you really d i d or not.❞
The boy froze where he stood, the rising panic leaving a rather uncomfortable ache in his chest.
"I…I-I…" He stared blankly. "I-I…d-didn’t…"

[ was it that easy? to make his mood change
instantly, all she had to do is give him something
useful? she's met plenty of people who would much
rather do nothing, than have responsibilities. this
was different. lilly felt better, actually. trusting nick
was a long shot. not that he'd ever given her a reason
not to. he just hasn't ever given her a reason to.
thought that's stupid. can't gain trust without a little
faith. but faith was scarce. this was a leap for lilly.
but if nick figured he could do it? fine. if he fucks up--
that's all on him. perhaps maybe it would bite lilly
in the ass, but... whatever. it's just whatever at the
moment. nick wasn't wrong about the food thing. or
the comparisons, even. admitting that is too much
of a step in one day, though. ]
❝Just... looking out. Wouldn't want to get a good thing
going and then... you know-- not be able to sustain it
do to walkers. That'd be pretty shitty.
Yeah. Yeah, I mean... this is better than mold. It's
a really good idea. But it's a big one. That requires
a lot of dedication and work. And we... we don't even
know if we're gonna be here forever... there's no telling.❞
[ but it's better than doing nothing. perhaps a risk was
needed? just maybe. better than someone getting
sick from fucked food. ]
❝Alright. Listen, why don't we keep this on the down low
until we can be sure. In case something happens before
it can be properly established. We can go-- check out some
place for seeds and stuff. Whenever you deem fit.❞
[ he wants to handle it? he can make dates. he can make
further decision. he can see how 'easy' it is to be in charge. ]
Nick had definitely been expecting more resistant on her part—her agreement, though hesitant and skeptical, took him by pleasant surprise.
"Okay." After standing frozen a moment, blinking at her foolishly and still processing how much easier this had been than he anticipated, he gave a short nod scratched his jaw thoughtfully. "Well—shit. My mom woulda known better than me."
His chest ached to remember her, elbow deep in dirt, covered in sweat like she was helping the ground give birth. He could almost feel the sweat dripping down his own back, his hands feeling way too dry in the work gloves, the wheelbarrow he pushed bouncing against rocks along the path.
"But, uh… I got some experience." Nick rubbed the back of his neck. "Seeds you can find at hardware stores, Wal-Marts, hell, even some grocery stores. They’ll have books on it. I doubt many people took that stuff when they started raiding, honestly."
Portable? He furrowed his eyebrows in thought. “We could put it in a truck bed, I guess? Dunno how good the gas exhaust would be for the plants, though.”
Nick shrugged and gave her a weak grin. “This could be good, Lilly.”

[ it couldn't really be that simple. to garden would to
entrust themselves to a steady location. and with
less singular zombies and more hordes-- it was hard
to rely on that. it would be a waste of time, energy
and resources if they did some type of garden, and
then had to uproot. there isn't much of any of that
going around anymore. but nick was r i g h t. oh, how
it stung a little to admit that. despite how useful that
could be, lilly didn't like to have other people being
right. odd, really, but she'd lived her whole life like that.
influenced by her father, of course. not that she'd talk
about that, or mention it.
pressing her lips together, she gives nick a nod. just
a tiny one. in case she wanted to change her mind. ]
❝Gardening? Alright. We can do that. That's a...
it's a good idea, Nick. We should think about
figuring out how to make it portable. Just... in case,
you know?
We would need seeds, a place to do it, and people to
help. Instructions, too, unless we've got an expert here.
Finding that shouldn't be too hard, I wouldn't think. But
this world has got a lot of surprises. There's no guarantee
this'll work, though. Don't get your hopes too high.❞
"Jesus, Lilly, it’s like—like nothing I do is good enough for you!” He threw his arms out in exasperation. “I know you’re trying, you don’t go a day without reminding everybody. I never asked you to do a single goddamn thing here, besides stop treating me like I’m some kind of inconvenience. I mean—Christ! What have I even done to you to shit on like this?” He was done trying to compare himself to her—clearly she wasn’t seeing what he saw.
His teeth clenched, Nick leaned back on the balls of his feet and drew in a deep breath. Let’s try this again. “The food we scavenge’s only gonna get more inedible. People have already been picking off mold, soon we’re gonna be finding maggots. We need to come up with—with some kind of system. Check the dates, test the food before doling it out. In the meantime, maybe—I don’t know. Start looking for books on gardening or something when we go on supply runs. It’s worth a shot, and like I said, I can handle it.”

you learn such vulgar words, you f u c k i n g

a damn time out, before things have to get physical.

up your pacifier to put in your mouth to shut the fuck up.❞

[ lilly hadn't found anybody since she was left on the
side of the road. but she hadn't ever been this stocked.
this prepared. dad had always, always said if she
wanted something done right, she had to do it herself.
being able to conjure plans and haven't a soul to disagree
was the most pleasing experience of a life time. no worry
about other mouths to feed. no worries but for herself.
the fact she hadn't isolated herself as soon as her father
passed was a mystery. this was blissful.
blissful, however, came with silence. and everybody knows
what happens in silence. thought. thinking on minimal
food, entertainment and company only leads one way. and
not a good direction. paranoia sets in. and everywhere she
goes-- it's just seeking out kenny, or lee. make sure they're
nowhere to be found. it's not recklessness that gets anybody
killed-- it's fear.
here had been her first stop of the day. try and scavenge.
although she never takes more than she needs. solely
because why bother? carrying it around is a hassle, and
others may need it, too. being greedy is just a waste.
although there isn't much to be found useful here. not
that lilly could say she expected any different.
s o u n d. though, sound can be found here. more than
her boots can make. human sounds. lilly does have her
remmington strap over her shoulder, along with a bookbag
for carrying various items. but she grabs her pistol, tucked
between her jeans and her back.
lilly easily realizes what she's looking at. a child-- but
it could be a trap. some sickos got her on a chain and
leash, make her play their bidding into luring people
in. she can't be sure, so she's still on guard, despite how
inconsiderate she looks. ]
❝No--- no thanks. They'd get stuck in my teeth.
Wouldn't want that--
Not gonna hurt you, alright? Not unless you try
and hurt me.
Where's the rest of your people?❞

..There was someone there..
Penny was quick to hide behind a corner after she heard someone walk into the old store she was currently trying to get stuff from, she hadn’t seen anyone in months and the couple people she did see before that weren’t good news for her so she was right away terrified.
She just stood in her place though, hiding on a shelf behind a stack of old expired soda boxes, just hoping the person wouldn’t notice her. She put a hand over her own mouth as she felt herself starting to panic, she just quickly reached into her back-pack and pulled out her hammer just to feel a tiny bit safer and it did calm her down slightly but still not by much.
She just stayed there for some time, just sitting there as she listened to the person walk around the store, digging through things and mumbling sometimes to.. Herself I think. She didn’t hear anyone else around anyway, unless they were just very quiet but she doubted it.
At some point, the woman walked by where Penny was hiding, and it caused Penny to panic more as she whimpered under her breath without realizing. It must’ve been sort of loud because the woman stopped, guessing the loud whimpering wasn’t the soda boxes the lady had looked behind them in confusment most likely.
Penny froze up when the lady moved the soda boxes to show the small child who was sitting there with her legs against her chest and tightly gripping a hammer. Penny hadn’t said anything at first, she didn’t know what to say honestly? So after a small pause she just held out a bag of gummy bears she found earlier and nervously spoke in a tiny, shaky voice.
" D-Do you want a gummy bear? " Yes Penny give the lady a gummy bear that means she totally won’t shoot you.
