Blue in Wes Anderson Films
Wes Anderson's films feature strategic use of the color blue, which serves many purposes, such as symbolism, aesthetics, and emotional resonance. This deliberate choice significantly contributes to the unique visual language of his movies, shaping the mood, tone, and atmosphere of his films. Anderson frequently employs blue to characterize specific locations or characters within his narratives. For instance, he consistently associates the color blue with Max, which is evident in his trademark blazer and the production design surrounding him. Anderson sometimes juxtaposes blue against other colors to create striking contrasts. In "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou," the crew's blue uniforms contrast sharply with their red beanies. Moreover, blue can evoke specific emotions in the audience. In "The Royal Tenenbaums," Anderson prominently uses blue in Richie's suicide scene to convey emotional turmoil and isolation, intensifying the moment's impact.

I must admit to you all that I have yet to see The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (etc.) because it's on Netflix exclusively and I am upset about this but do not blame Wes because it wasn't his fault or choice.
I suppose I ought to just watch it online somewhere (not sure where), but I have always tried to show support for Wes's work and am bothered that I have been pushed to this.
And Netflix doesn't seem to release things in hard copies and I don't know what this means for it. Even though Wes is a Criterion Darling, they haven't picked up his movies in awhile and I don't know what kind of chokehold Netflix has on the material now.

Good evening, my darlings
Today I tuned into a presentation from Letterform Archive with graphic designer Leah Spencer who worked on prop and set decoration design for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Aesthetically, it was all very reminiscent of Wes Anderson, so I thought I would send a link along to the video if you enjoy typeface, mid-century art, and graphic design.
You can watch the presentation here.
I know this is technically not Wes Anderson, BUT she did MENTION Wes in the presentation...so it counts!
Have a good night, my darlings.
