This is my entry for the third day of Romencken Week 2024, prompt "(serial) killer". This entry is sadly a little late because RL was kind of kicking my ass, sorry! :"3 I instantly knew I wanted to draw these two for the "(serial) killer" prompt. Something about them covered in some poor unsuspecting victim's blood just seems very right to me. I like to imagine that Mencken would be the one to teach Roman the ropes, as they say. I also figure them to be knife guys. Drawing this was loads of fun - I drew a lot more bloody motives when I was much younger, and it's still such a weirdly good time. Anyways, hope you enjoy!

i know that realistically cuddling for long periods of time just isn't physically comfortable for a lot of people and that it doesn't mean anything in and of itself if you and a partner just can't cuddle, but if only symbolically it seems notable that we see tom and shiv in the same bed multiple times and there's never any physical contact. not only that, but we're told that tom's snoring keeps shiv from sleeping. like, it does seem pointed that we're fed these hints of domestic incompatibility. further taking into account how much of a conventional romantic tom is, it would be extremely in-character of him to be bothered by this. like sure, he's probably internalized the facts that i laid out in that first paragraph well enough. he knows objectively that it doesn't mean anything. but that wouldn't stop him from feeling like something was missing, from wishing that he could fulfil that romantic ideal.

subsequently a notion just as fitting, both as in-universe characterization and as potential symbolism, is that tom the broad 6'2 back-sleeper and greg the clingy 6'7 side-sleeper fit together like two perfect puzzle pieces. tom's arms finally have something warm to wrap around at night and he finally sinks into the image of bliss that he's been chasing :')
