// Since it's almost an obligation to send meta questions to each of your muses: HCs about Silas' culture shock (or lack thereof) when he follows Corrin to Hoshido? Any embarrassing stories?
ree!!!!! i hope you love outlines
Silas was caught off guard by how ridiculously hot and bright the sun is. While he’s spent enough time in Southern Nohr (where the sun shines more regularly) to not be completely blown away by the sun, he’s still ridiculously pale enough to suffer from sunburns. Silas also had difficulty adjusting to the bright sunlight after months of living in Krackenburg in Northern Nohr. He became known for only really being seen outside from dusk till dawn and hiding away during the day, shielding his eyes from the afternoon sun.
Also: Silas experiencing Hoshidan summers for the first time and dying in the humidity. I think he’d come to appreciate the long days and being able to enjoy the sun for hours, long after the heat has subsided.
Battlefield conduct. I feel like a lot can fall under this: the differences between Nohrian and Hoshidan battle tactics and formations, how Hoshidans handle the drums of war (not well, Silas thinks. The roars of men and screams of wyverns carry farther and have a fire and fury that Hoshidan war cries lack).
But the most striking difference is the apparent disdain for picking over the dead for supplies. It’s a practice that became especially important for Silas to find replacement weapons and armor for him and his horse, since he couldn’t go to a blacksmith and commission another set. He’s incredibly meticulous about maintaining his weapons and armor. He wants it to last for as long as it possibly can.
Wasting resources is a cultural taboo in Nohr, and that goes doubly so when it comes to food. Hoshidans not using every part of the animal when butchering it horrified Silas. The first time Silas saw someone just tossing some perfectly good offal onto the ground, he tugged at Kaze’s scarf and just pointed at the scene like “????? What the hell are they doing are they insane.”
I also hc that Nohrian military horses and wyverns that fall in battle or die of natural causes are also butchered for their meat instead of simply being left behind or buried. Silas could understand why the Hoshidans don’t do it, since he abhorred the practice when he was younger, but it still physically pained him to see all of that food just. Rotting away in the sun.
Related: Silas got a lot of attention for how thorough he was when he ate. No grain of rice left behind, every bone picked clean. Even after learning how to eat with chopsticks, he always returned to eating with his fingers to make sure no bit of food was left behind. Definitely got called a messy eater for eating with his fingers (Silas insisted he wasn’t, as he was always careful to never leave crumbs). Definitely got chewed out by multiple people for licking his chopsticks. At least now he’s embarrassed for doing that last one.
Idea for an embarrassing, hilarious story: Kaze seeing Silas like a tenth of a second away from putting the chopsticks in his mouth and knocking them out of Silas’ hand. The chopsticks bounce off the table and hit a Hoshidan soldier in the face. The soldier tries to challenge a 6′6 Nohrian cavalier to a fight. Unable to fight back due to being surrounded by Hoshidans and already distrusted, Silas decides to just pick up the soldier to show how pointless it is to fight him. The Hoshidan just gets angrier.

VALENTIA (FT. ARCHANEA / JUGDRAL) + LANGUAGE
Lingua franca used in Zofia, due to the number of languages still spoken in the present that come from pre-Zofian societies
"English", but give it a nice name
Language of the divine dragons ooooooo
(LDD)
Originated from the dragon tribes, spread alongside Milaism, Dumaism, and Nagaism
Why Archaneans and Valentians can communicate just fine... or at least, highborn Archaneans and Valentians
All of their words have the same origin, but Valentian LDD is influenced by distance and the established languages in Valentia, so it ends up being more like a pidgin/creole
Archanea is viewed as more cultured/the originator of LDD by both the Valentians and the Archaneans, so Valentian creoles aren't very classy. Archanean LDD is frequently spoken within the Valentian courts rather than the regional dialect.
Of course, different regions in Zofia speak different dialects of Valentian LDD. They can still understand each other, but there might be differences in grammar and colloquialisms
Jugdral language has a similar origin but diverged heavily along the way (due to only Galle I introducing the language to Jugdral and having it spread through the empire as the word of Mr. Loptous himself)
Bastardized version of the original LDD, many root words shared with Valentia and Archanea but the vast distance and the hundreds of years between the First Holy War and Valentia and Archanea's Age of Heroes means that Jugdral LDD is so different from Valentia and Archanea LDD
Probably not as widespread, specifically in places where the Empire was actively resisted or remained mostly untouched by the Empire
But because it's the primary language of Grannvale, and Grannvale is the largest and more influential country in Jugdral, a lot of people in other countries speak it anyways, specifically the upper class or those who deal with people in other countries

ZOFIA + MILITARY
While Zofia is not a warmongering, expansionist country, there are militias in each province and excellent navies that provide protection against brigands and pirates
Again, Zofia has an extensive road system
The king can send orders to raise troops and direct them towards where they are needed
Trade routes, both land and sea, are vigorously protected
Soldiers trained against raiders, but at worst they're fighting mercenaries, not other trained soldiers
Ships from the navy are often sent alongside merchant ships when they are traveling particularly far (up to Rigel or across to Archanea)
Mercenaries in Zofia often get work as escorts, protecting merchants and travelers
Ports are well protected, require ships sailing in and out to pass through a gate and, if it is a trade ship, submit itself to inspection as to prevent smuggling
It's not really easy to figure out what Zofia as a country specializes in, as Zofians make up almost every playable/important character and make up a pretty well-rounded cast that doesn't have too much of one thing.
Probably, each province tends to have a few things that they're good at/specialized in (a western Zofian province that makes very powerful bows and thus has great archers, the valley approach being a center for Milaist-aligned mages due to all the priories and resources there for magic-users and the study of magic and Milaism)
Thus, it would make sense if Zofia as a whole can pull from all of these classes and create a large, well-rounded army
Fliers don't seem to really be a thing yet in Valentia
Ignoring the Servants pulling horses out of their ass for villager promotions, out of all four fliers in fe2, Clair's the only Valentian
Pegasi aren't native to Valentia, but instead are Archanean pegasi species that migrate over to Zofia for the winter. They start appearing in Zofia in the fall, hence "Pegastym"
Wyverns also aren't a thing at all… in this age. The wyvern riders in FE13 are either from Valm or of Valmese descent
The Archanean wyverns seem to be descended from a super-degenerated dragon tribe, so it would make sense why they're more concentrated there than anywhere else
Also… "riding dragons despite worshipping a dragon god" has got to be weird for some people
Wyvern Valley seems to be the place where FE13 era wyverns chill out and proliferate, which is in the valley approach
Cherche in Vaike support: "I was training to be a cleric at the time and used a very heavy staff. Whenever she misbehaved, I'd just bonk her on the head. Soon she was meek as a bunny, and I was riding her to school." Training to be a cleric? In/near the valley approach? Awakening really is the best game.
Wyverns were probably released in that area at one point. Or else migrated and decided to stay there because that part of Valentia remains very warm after Mila passes on. Milaists/Dumaists might regard it as a sign of Mila/Duma still watching over them.
Theoretically, Zofia can field an army that would be as large or larger than Rigel's
They have the population, the food, the funds for payment or to import things that the army would need…
But they never field their entire force. Why? There's no need for one when there's nothing worth conquering
Rigel is the only other nation there, there's nothing there worth starting a war over
Archanean countries may be tempting, but they're all the way across the ocean and Zofia isn't willing to send men all the way over there
Probably the only time where there was an expansionist, conquering Zofian army was in the kingdom's early stages of life where they were growing into their current size
Generally Zofia didn't use military power to conquer city-states and preferred just persuading them into their kingdom… but if that didn't work, military force definitely did

ZOFIA + ECONOMY
Zofia aims to be a strong economic power
The vast majority of its interactions with other countries is through trade
The biggest and most important export to other countries is food
I imagine that this is the primary reason why they haven't been threatened by Rigel, besides the Accord
Zofia has definitely twisted Rigel's wrist in this way a couple of times. "Stop being mean to our border provinces or else little Bertie won't eat tonight"
And it's not like Rigel can invade Zofia. Zofia has definitely hid behind Mila/the Accord whenever they bully Rigel for its lunch money
They also trade with the countries across the pond: Grust, Khadein, occasionally Macedon
Has an extensive, well-maintained road system for quick communication throughout the kingdom
Trading within Zofia is very easy, since it's simple and safe to travel between provinces.
Foreign merchants (and merchants trading overseas) are required to have a trading license from the government
For foreign merchants, "we trust you not to trick Zofians with some snake oil bs"
For Zofian merchants, "we trust you not to ruin our good name"
Another source of income for Zofia, as the license needs to be renewed every two years
Between trade and taxes, Zofia is incredibly rich in marks
Buys itself out of trouble and into alliances, bribes officials in other countries, its strong economy and useful resources (foodstuffs) give Zofia a place among Archanean countries
Though it should be noted that Valentia in general is considered weird and backwater compared to Archanea. Archanean culture (specifically Archanean and Khadeian culture) has long been admired and emulated by the Zofian court. On the other hand, Zofian culture has never been treated with that same reverence by Archanean countries
This may start to change once the One Kingdom is up and running, but after the Schism, Valm becomes known as a backwards, uncultured continent again
Frequently invests in:
New industries (bringing in Archanean crops to grow in Zofia, for example)
Maintaining infrastructure (Zofian roads, Zofian ports, make sure trade and communication remains protected)
The Zofian military might go under this, as when it comes down to it their main purpose is to protect Zofian trade
New technology (Once Zofia's population outstrips the land's output, the king put researchers on the job for figuring out efficient farming methods, tools, etc.)
Arts (because art and culture is Good. Zofian rulers frequently patronize the artists of their time)

ZOFIA + LAW AND ORDER
Zofian law is heavily based on Mila's teachings and guidance
Prior to her going insane, she would grant an audience to her people and grant guidance to them when asked
Scribes recorded all of her wisdom, copied down the question and everything she said in response word for word
All compiled into a series of books that is regularly updated (was, until Mila started going mad and closed her doors to the public). Let's call it "The Teachings of the Kingsgrail", or "The Teachings" for short
The full series of books is closely guarded in the Temple of Mila.
When Zofia was first founded and were still figuring out their laws, Champion Zofia sent a group of scholars to transcribe the Teachings' most important parts so that she could reference it in the capital. The first copy of this abridged version of the Teachings still exists in the capital and is widely copied and printed.
There is a lot of debate among people from all over Zofia on how much they should be adhering to Mila's word
There are quite a few questions that have been left either unanswered, answered but contradicted later on, or vaguely answered enough for anyone to interpret in their own way, which would make the laws based on those questions not really authentic in terms of "Mila said this was okay so we're doing it"
Once you get too into that, then the entire Zofian code of laws is up for debate, since who knows how many of these laws have been corrupted by human hands
Turns out leaving your laws up to an alien dragon queen who just wants to watch the little people dance around and sing songs isn't a sustainable form of lawmaking
200 or so years is a very long time, people die and ideas change, and these days Zofians fight fiercely over whether or not those ancient laws should change with them
"Does Mila even believe in these things anymore?? Does she want us to change?? Will she be cool if we don't go with what she's saying anymore.."
Mila's a divine dragon goddess and she knows the humans will worship her, but I think she was imagining the humans worshipping her but not going to this level of dependency on her. She's not gonna get pissed if the Zofians go their own way when it comes to the laws.
Of course, then she started degrading, and what mother wouldn't accept her children's love and devotion?
Local affairs are left to the governor to handle
This lifts a lot of the weight off of the king and lets him handle more country-scale matters
The majority of provinces use a jurist system of some kind instead of the Judge-Only Ace Attorney style
Jurists usually composed of either the governor’s advisors (general, treasurer, etc.) or just rich, landowning Zofians in general.
The king only gets involved when:
Multiple provinces are involved
An entire province is in rebellion
The problem affects the country as a whole
The governor proves unable to solve the matter themselves (which makes the governor look bad)
Execution/capital punishment isn't a thing… technically
Zofians asked Mila about what executions should be and she said something along the lines of "please god don't kill each other"
So it was left to the king at the time to determine
Only crimes that result in someone losing their life are punishable by death
Generally for murder and attempted murder, the case can be made for coups and attempted coups
Self-defense and putting down violent rebellions both sit on the "well, they're trying to kill us, so it's justified" end of the spectrum. It's war, they can't not kill people.
I imagine that Alm's invasion into Rigel falls into a gray area. Yeah the Rigelians are invading, but if Zofia goes into Rigel to kill its king that justification gets turned on its head. And there's no Zofian king or Earth Mother to turn to either.
The decision to invade becomes an emotional one, driven by avenging Mila and punishing the Rigelians for sending the continent into chaos. This is the first and last time Zofia will ever outright invade another country.
Public hangings and beheadings are so barbaric and Rigelian, so instead they kill death row prisoners indirectly
The most popular/religious/Right way is to isolate the prisoner in the middle of nowhere and deprive them of Mila's blessings (light and food) for as long as it takes until they die.
How far it goes varies from province to province
Some have the prisoner suspended by the hands and feet with metal chains, hanging them far above the ground to truly sever them from Mila's blessings
In coastal provinces, the corpse is then cremated with magic (separated from nature) and the ashes scattered into the ocean away from the coast so that they might never touch land again
The quicker, more direct way is to drown the prisoner in the ocean, far from the coast, and let the fish do the legwork of getting rid of the body and making sure it never returns to shore
Typically done with weights so that the body doesn't randomly get washed up. That would like, really suck
"We're not drowning them, we're just throwing them into the ocean, and they can't swim (due to the weights on their legs but we won't mention that because it helps us detach ourselves from the situation and absolves us of killing another human being) so they have to drown"
Are these kind, quick deaths? Definitely not, and a Zofian would argue that murderers don't deserve a merciful end, not for doing something as sacrilegious as taking another human's life
These executions are very ritualized
Carried out by the local priory
Many, many prayers and blessings that "ward" the clerics before they go kill the dude. Execution followed by a ceremony where the clerics' clothes are burned, so that the evil of the prisoner don't follow them home and corrupt other Zofians
*starves a dude to death* "Sorry Mother Mila!! He was a bad guy we had no choice!! Don't judge us too harshly!!"

ZOFIA + AS A COUNTRY
Basing their organization off of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, where they divided the region into different satraps/provinces
Each province is run by a governor, typically a local ruler
Assisted by a general, who concerned themselves with military matters, a treasurer, who concerned themselves with the province's economy, and a king-appointed secretary that would keep up regular correspondence to the capital
Almost all governor positions in Zofia are hereditary, passing on to the governor's son
The king reserves the right to replace the governor so long as he can prove beyond doubt that a change is necessary
Very few governors are elected to their positions, but generally they are a noble elected by fellow upper-class, land-owning Zofians
Country divided into 21 provinces, based off of the historical locations of pre-Zofian city states
7 in Eastern Zofia (Celica Act 3)
4 in West (Alm Act 3)
10 in South (Act 1 and 2)
Taxes are different in each province, depending on the wealth and resources available to them
Taxes are higher in the coastal provinces that face Archanea (due to the amount of trade they get) and particularly fertile land.
Determined by the kingdom's treasurer, so the governor cannot raise or lower taxes themselves
So long as taxes are paid and orders are followed, the king is hands off and willing to let the provinces run themselves as they see fit.
Governors report to the central government, the one king
Rules because his bloodline was blessed by Mila or smth, descendants of the Champion Zofia, who Mila chose
Intertwined with the Milaist church as a result
Practices absolute primogeniture, but preference is given to Brand-bearers
Brands only manifest at birth, so no adult is going to wake up one day and be like "oh boy I have a brand!! Move over crown prince, I'm the ruler of Zofia now"
What is keeping Zofia together in spite of it consisting of multiple groups of people and no real uniting culture?
Mila's blessing definitely, but I imagine that it is given to all of south Valentia regardless of if it's in Zofia or not
Okay but what if, early on before Mila's blessings were visible, the Zofians were like "Join us if you want to benefit from Mila's blessings, or else you won't, and then you'll starve like northern Valentia, and then you'll die"
I imagine, as people forget how the land was before Mila and Duma came to it, there is an emerging belief that all of Valentia is actually just as bad as Rigel, and the only reason why Zofia has it so good is because of Mila's blessings
Whether or not that's true… maybe Zofia is like, completely average in reality, like not a cornucopia but, you know, you can live pretty decently, but for the Zofians it's borderline infertile. Probably no better than Rigelian soil.
"The drought" breaks once the war is over, and the famine starts to ease up once the Rigelians are pushed back, but Zofians are still tightening their belts because they're not getting as much food as they're used to
I don't think Duma shares Mila's power of affecting the land's fertility, so Rigel would probably be Actual Valentian land. Maybe less fertile than Zofia, since it's colder
But anyways, yes, religion could unite the Zofians
Protection against Rigel definitely
"Hey, so we have a Divine Accord thing that says that Rigel can’t invade Zofia--" "Say no more"
Especially when word of Rigel's military successes start reaching Zofia. People are much more inclined to stay in Zofia and not risk being taken over.
Traveling within Zofia is also much safer and easier than travelling between city-states
Before Lima IV fucked everything up, the roads and waters of Zofia were very well protected against bandits and pirates and safe to travel
As Zofia becomes more established, there are more trading and economic opportunties
This proceeds to become a meta on its own
The concept of being a Zofian (in terms of like, a person living in the kingdom of Zofia) instead of a denizen of a specific province is not a new one, but it only gained traction when the Rigelians invaded
"We're weak as individual provinces, but as one Zofian force, we can stand a chance against even the Rigelians!"
The Deliverance is unique for its time since it was a united force with Zofians of all different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Of course, a few years later they would be one half of the One Kingdom, so the surge of nationalism comes in pretty late

NANNA + COURT LIFE
Doesn't have much experience in court life
Alster was basically Nanna learning how to be a well-behaved little lady who says please and thank you, because she's 3
Tahra was training as a troubadour and watching Leif grow stronger and yet more "where the hell do I go from here", and the manners she learned from Alster and reinforced by her parents were enough
And then Fiana is a village in the boonies, and then FE5 and the rest of FE4 and uniting the Agustrians under Ares happened, and then suddenly Court Life
I like to think that the three of them (Nanna+Ares+Diarmuid) were all hired tutors and etiquette teachers to help them adjust
So that they can Not embarrass the shit out of Agustria once they start to go abroad on diplomatic trips
Nanna is willing to learn, but also struggles from the lifestyle changes and having a lot of her day-to-day routine done by other people.
But she's nothing if not adaptable, so she makes herself go with the flow
Nanna's schedule includes learning some sort of musical instrument (the voice, since Nanna is already a good singer,
The best part of court life? Ladies-in-waiting/attendants
Considering that Nanna knows so few people in Agustria, it's a grand way to make new friends for herself
She feels strange about ordering them about and asking them to draw her a bath or brush out her hair, because they're friends and friends, like, don't do that
They came at a time when she really needed friends, when she and Leif parted ways and her old life was gone forever
We love emotional support… we love having people we can cry to when the Fam is too much… we love people who understand this strange new place and can help her understand too… we love having friends!
Would often ask one of them to sleep in the same bed as her for a night so that she wouldn't be alone and maybe talk about the stresses of the day. Sleepovers every night.
Retinue contains her tutor and four ladies-in-waiting
One thing that Dorias and the troubadour thing did teach Nanna was the importance of appearances
Dorias (and Finn) wanted her to be a troubadour. Why? So that next to Leif they would be like Cuan and Ethlyn come again to reclaim Leonster
So she brings that back to Agusty and Agustria and tries to apply it
Nanna starts to grow out her hair again for Lachesis, and incorporates more pink into her dresses
It's not quite successful, because lmao no one's here for Lachesis. If anything it starts drawing more attention to her from older men from before the war and people aware of the Eldigan/Lachesis rumors. Nanna stops wearing pink, but she keeps the long hair (albeit in updos)
Outside of the advisors, she's probably the one nagging Ares about him needing to incorporate more red and gold into his clothing
"Wear the red curtain too, dammit, and make sure Mystletainn is visible at all times."
She would also find value in the three of them looking like an unbreakable family unit, coordinated outfits and colors and all.
Nanna and Diarmuid can't wear as much black as Ares does without looking like they're at a funeral, so she wants Ares to compromise for them
"It really is unfortunate that Lachesis and Eldigan didn't have a third sibling for Diarmuid to resemble, but we Nordions make do" "Nanna please I'm right here."
Around this time is definitely when Nanna starts flirting and being flirted with, courting and dating and all that
It was…. New. And difficult
"Be a courteous and lovely young lady who gently dismisses all flirtations. No dating until we decide whose ring we put on your finger"
"Courteous young ladies DO NOT TALK DOWN TO IMPORTANT AGUSTRIAN LORDS!!! YES EVEN IF THEY STARTED IT."
Nanna is a teenage girl in a room filled with attractive, well-dressed people who give her love and attention as the princess of Agustria, and you're telling her that she has to indirectly ask for someone to make out with her in an empty room. Unbelievable. Where's Ares and his lawmaking powers.

NANNA + AGUSTRIA
What did she think of Agustria when she first got there? It's weird
Not in a bad way, just different from what she's used to, and that's what made her very curious about Agustria
More forests to walk through. Less mountains.
Of course, her first interactions with Agustrians in Agustria was fighting against them and watching Ares and Diarmuid negotiate peace treaties and alliances with them, so not entirely positive
She didn't feel any sort of epiphany… more like "the way Eldigan was describing the important of this place, I was expecting it to be more… like entering the holy light and having the secrets of the universe revealed to me."
Immediately starts comparing Thracia and Agustria
Once Ares is firmly on the Agustrian throne, Nanna and Diarmuid take on more administrative roles
This is where Diarmuid shines the most
Diarmuid has experience with going to other countries with Lester and Oifey as scouts/diplomats.
If he's been Oifey's little assistant, he would probably pick up on whatever Oifey was doing (tactician/managerial duties)
Honestly he's probably the smartest/most prepared out of the three of them
Nanna's inexperience with the world is made glaringly obvious
While Ares and Diarmuid have at least traveled around, Nanna has never strayed far from North Thracia until FE4
All of what she knows about the other Jugdral countries is what she's heard/witnessed/learned from the Isaachians, the Silesians, etc.
The one thing that Nanna has over Ares is that she's a lot more friendly and sociable than him.
Nanna makes the initial first impression of Lovely Young Agustrian Woman, Ares makes the second impression of Agustria Never Plays, and Diarmuid comes in with the actual advisors when it comes to trade negotiations and things of that nature
Diarmuid most useful Nordion
Nanna's previous role as knight and confidant to Leif doesn't translate well to Agustria, so at first the advisors probably just wanted her to stay in Agusty until they figured out what to do with her
Would have been like the first lady until she's married off for an alliance and Ares has a bride
Unintentially brings Thracian fashion into the Agustrian courts, an accidental trendsetter… we love a queen

NANNA + LEONSTER VS AGUSTRIA
Nanna : No, my lord. Lenster...left no regrets for me anymore… Celice : I see...Nanna, take care of yourself. Take care of your own happiness.
What up, I'm Bren, I'm 19, and I never fucking learned how to read
Can we infer from Seliph telling Nanna to take care of her own happiness that Nanna has some misgivings about returning to Leonster? Probably not, but let's do it anyways
Tbh, there is that idea of Nanna being absolutely Fucked from being under siege, under the constant threat of death
She really didn't appreciate being besieged for six months
Because of that, the thought of being back in Leonster gives her nightmares
Obviously, as if she's gonna tell Leif that the idea of being in Leonster is repugnant to her
She goes to Agustria instead (let's adjust the circumstances without going Leif/Nanna or Ares/Nanna)
Her mother's death is the biggest thing driving her this way
Lachesis would have wanted to go to Agustria. She would have wanted to help Eldigan's son. She's not here, so Nanna'll go in her stead
Also the Agustrian Civil war
It's not quite the same situation as Leif did, but similar in concept (liberating the country? Well, no, more like fixing the power vacuum left behind by Sigurd and the Empire)
Just like… ridding the country of the Empire's influence and bringing it back to glory
Leif is her strongest tie to Thracia, and Lachesis is her strongest tie to Agustria. We need to somehow downplay Leif's (incredibly strong) influence in pulling her to Thracia so that she goes Agustria
Would have to be a combination of Lachesis, the Letter, and Leonster
Lachesis: It's her strongest connection to her mother, who is gone now, and who Nanna for now misses very strongly
Of course, that would be thrown out the fucking window if Lachesis happens to come back… "You left Diarmuid?? And then me?? Wasn't there a better way where we all could have been together?? Fuck!"
Letter: Letter to Eldigan, while addressed directly to Ares, had to have had an impact on Nanna as well
Returning to Agustria the motherland to help it rebuild… wow…
She knows it doesn't concern her, as someone who grows up in Thracia with heavy influence from Thracian caregivers, but when you're a small child whose mother just left… maybe that struck something in her
Maybe in the way Eldigan writes "my spirit is in the soil, waiting for you", it's yet another connection to her mother, who is an Agustrian
Leonster: She is afraid to go back to Leonster castle (???)
Jesus god in heaven what does "Leonster left no regrets for me anymore" mean

NANNA + FINN
Finn's number one priority would always be Leif, but he does place a lot of importance on Nanna's safety as well
Probably because he knows that Lachesis would absolutely murder him if he just left Nanna on the side of the road to get rid of another mouth to feed
I'M KIDDING.
Leif comes to value Nanna a lot as a personal source of support and encouragement, so keeping Nanna alive would be paramount to his mental and emotional health
Just say you love your daughter, Finn, it doesn’t have to be about Leif…
There is some tension between Nanna and her father
When they reunite after Manster, Nanna does have something on her mind, but she stops herself before she tells Finn. Finn tells her to go to the backlines where it's safe
Again, Finn valuing Nanna's safety
However, Nanna doesn't seem to rely on Finn for emotional support when something is bothering her
Makes sense, Selfina and Leif do mention that Finn has only gotten emotionally colder/more depressed/jaded over the years
IIRC, this is the only time Finn and Nanna talk or even mention each other in all of FE5
The second time they talk is in FE4, where Nanna yells at him for letting Lachesis leave
Finn first asks if Nanna is fine, to which she says quote "I'm fine, Father. You don't need to worry about me."
I interpret this line as Nanna being annoyed about Finn's concern, since she yells at him in her next line
Finn apparently doesn't like to talk about Lachesis disappearing, but he does comment (with good intentions) that Nanna resembles her a lot
Probably pushed a button in Nanna? At least the button of "you clearly loved Lachesis, so why did you let her go off without us?"
Maybe the button of "You're probably the reason Mom left in the first place, because you were so cold. How could you left her leave?"
Part of me feels like this is a failure on the writers' part, not going into Finn's role as a father to Nanna
We know that Leif views Finn as a surrogate father and trusted advisor, and we know that Nanna respects Finn as her father
But what about Finn… how's he as a dad… damn you Intsys you curse me Again
Finn's not gonna be the one to keep Nanna in Thracia when postgame comes
They aren't close enough for Finn to convince Nanna to be in Thracia or vice versa
Would they send letters to each other… Nanna might, she's nothing if not a dutiful daughter
Finn responds more disaffected at first due to the war being fresh on his mind, but maybe with time he starts being more like, fatherly and affectionate with Nanna… my heart
Finn says "I miss you, may you be in good health and spirits when you receive this letter" instead of something more formal, Nanna squints and says "who wrote this for him"

NANNA + THE TROUBADOUR CLASS
One interesting thing about Leif and Nanna is that they have the classes of the other's mother. While this would make some sense for Leif, having a direct relationship to Lachesis, Nanna doesn't know Ethlyn
Nanna was probably influenced by someone telling her that she should become a troubadour (Finn)
She goes with it, because it would make use of her Hezul blood's talent for swords while learning how to mend wounds in case they get into trouble
Also, learning how to ride a horse would be very useful. She really wants a pony of her own.
Finn definitely influenced her, but something tells me that he's not really thinking of the symbolism of "Cuan and Ethlyn" coming back to liberate Northern Thracia
Probably Dorias "Let us fly the banners of Noba proudly as we march back to the motherland on an open road heavily guarded by the Empire" of Leonster
Nanna probably would have started her training in Tahra but the discussion of what to do with her probably came up at some point before, while they were in Tahra
The decision was for Nanna to be a Leonster knight (to Lachesis' frustration, because Agustria is still on her mind and if Nanna became a Leonster knight they'd have to split up at some point).
The idea of her becoming a troubadour like Eth also popped up in Alster, and Lachesis doesn't want history to repeat itself you know
When Nanna's old enough to start training in Tahra, Finn encourages her to take up both the sword and staff as planned
I don't know how far Finn or Dorias wanted to go with their Cuan/Ethlyn cosplay, like if they actually wanted them to marry
Finn doesn't seem the type to foist his daughter onto his ward for an easy match that sets up his family for life
Team Leonster would be much more concerned with Northern Thracia than like, idk, a country on the other side of Jugdral going through its own shit, so I don't think there's any Agustrian-Thracian political motivations behind it either (at least at the time when Ethlyn Next Gen was cooked up)
After FE4? Two of the strongest countries in Jugdral allied with each other to check Grannvale and make sure that a second Empire doesn't happen would be ideal for the Agustrians. Grannvale and Thracia are already one step away from uniting into an empire, since Leif and Seliph are first cousins
Right now it hopefully shouldn't be necessary, since the Ares-Seliph-Leif trio are all very good friends, but maybe when kids start happening there might be more happening between Agustria and Thracia, since they don't have the family connection that Seliph and Leif do
OF COURSE IF IT HAPPENED, "WE LOVE ANOTHER CUAN/ETH CONNECTION", but right now with Leif and Nanna having a sibling relationship, the kids aren't interested in that
