Limulidae or Horseshoe Crabs

Horseshoe Crabs have existed for hundreds of millions of years, and have changed very little since their bodies are a very efficient armor! And if you’re worried that they will get stuck if they land on their backs, they can use their long tails to right themselves up! If you do see an overturned horseshoe crab and want to set it right- don’t pick it up by the tale. Pick it up on the sides of its shells.

Everything You Need to Know About Herbs: Belladonna *Deadly Nightshade*

Belladonna (Atropa belladonna)

Why Poisonous?: Its roots, leaves and fruits all contain alkaloids: atropine, hyoscyamine, and scopolamine. This causes dilated pupils, blurred vision, slurred speech, hallucinations, delirium, convulsion and some cases death.

Characteristics: It has a rigid stalk that grow into branches. It is a perennial plant and can grow up to 3 feet tall. Its purplish-brown flowers are shaped like bells with its berries being black and the size of cherries. It is a part of the nightshade family and likes partial shade in chalky soil.

History: This plant has always been associated with witches and was used as an ingredient in flying ointment, a medieval cream that allowed people to unlock their spiritual powers. Belladonna was used by the Scottish army against the Norwegian troops of King Svein Knutsoon to incapacitate them when they were trying to overthrow the current King. Sacred to the Fates, it is also associated with the Fate Atropos, the Fates who cuts the thread of life. Its leaves were used by Venetian women in order to redden their cheeks, and Renaissance women used it as a tincture in order to dilate their eyes to seem more attractive.

Easy to plant and grow? Not a high success rate. Growing Belladonna

Ritual Usage:

The priest of Bellona, the Roman Goddess of War, would drink an infusion of Belladonna prior to worshipping Her and invoking her aid. The antidote for Belladonna poisoning is physostigmine, a reversible cholinergic medicine that is used to treat glaucoma and antimuscarinic toxicity.

Magical Usage:

Was used to encourage astral projections and produce visions (Is very much not safe)

Amplify seductive energy and give temporary illusion of beauty

Placing belladonna in a sealed jar can help your spirit move into the world beyond

Medical Usage:

Was used as an anesthetic for surgeries

So this idea for a fanfic has been bouncing around in my head sense I watched the final season of she-ra. I have not done any creative writing in a very very long time but starting this story was fun. I have a whole story mapped out just not sure if I will finish this.

If you are interested in how this story will develop just lmk! It will encourage me to continue this. I am giving it my best shot.

I really want to write this in very short chapters. Capturing single moments at a time. Right now the story is between Catra and Adora but I think I will explore other characters. Idk yet.

Catra 1

Catra rolled over and sleepily reached out a hand hoping she would feel the warm body of her true love. But there was no one. Every night she would fall asleep at the foot of her bed and lately she was not there when she woke. 

She thought they would see more of each other when she moved in.

Catra unfurled and reached her limbs out to stretch with a tired grunt. Picking herself up she slumped to the bathroom and looked at her face. She grimaced at the reflection. Catra didn’t see herself, she saw someone older and weaker… Had it only been three years since they won the battle against The Horde and won Etheria back? Catra scrunched her face held her forehead. She was getting a migraine from the storm of thoughts flooding her so early in the day.

What had happened? Adora and her had been living in a princess tale. Not the ones they told them in the fright zone but the ones the etherians told their children, about good conquering evil and happily ever after. She wished she knew how to bring that back but the emotions it welled up just made her want to punch things.

Wiping away the sleepiness Catra washed her face and started getting ready for her day. She hoped she wasn’t running late for the meeting with King Micah and Lieutenant Bow about her promotion to second lieutenant. That would not help with whatever is going on between her and Adora. 

Just as she had finished putting on her jacket Adora showed up like a fresh breeze. It brought back memories of their vacations to Mysticor. The smell alone relaxed her body and softened her eyes. 

“Hey wildcat, I am so happy I caught you.”

 She came up and embraced her with warmth and a beautiful sunshine smile. 

“I couldn’t miss sending you off to your new job. I am so proud of you wildcat.” 

She could tell she meant it and for a moment the last 8 months had been wiped away like a distant dream.

Adora loved her and would never let her down, she was perfect. Not like her.. Adora will always be put on a pedestal seen as a benevolent goddess. I mean, how could she compare? 

Adora kissed her and when they separated Catra stepped back awkwardly.

“Okay captain. Don’t worry, no casualties! At least not on my first day” she joked. 

“Yes please I really don’t want another awkward conversation with Bow”

“Yeah yeah “ Catra rolled her eyes, shrugged off the comment and rushed out the door.
