Keiko has many beautiful smiles. The one she wears when she suggests that they should invite Julian and his new partner Garak over for a dinner party is not remotely one of Miles' favourites.
Why rec this fic: Because I love her Keiko. I mean come on, can you not see Keiko inviting Garak and Bashir for dinner once she knows they’re dating? Keiko and Garak bonding over gardening is adorable and Miles’ jealousy over that had me loling. I also love how O’brien’s love for Keiko shines through.

The old administration at School District 9 was recently replaced with new principal Benjamin Sisko in charge, Kira Nerys vice principal, and several new employees. It is a new school year with many new changes but some, such as former principal Skrain Dukat, don't want to let go of the past. Dukat is now teaching for rival school Dominion High but is determined to get his place back as principal of School District 9. Dukat promises he'll have his school back by the end of the year--or he'll at least see his new school to victory over School District 9 come homecoming.
Quark also gets stuck in vending machines.
Why rec this fic: This had me laugh, especially math teacher Quark and PE teacher Worf! This is a one-shot, but hopefully the author will continue this.

Sequel to "When You Go Away." Julian's research project in speculative reproductive xenobiology is turning out to be a little more complicated than he'd hoped...
Why rec this fic
Bashir's using the Cardassian version of Pride and Prejudice as a guide on how to properly hit on Garak. The result is adorably and hilarious all at once.

Warnings: Does contain mentions of rape/non-con
When an old Obsidian-Order enemy of Garak's abducts Bashir, Garak comes to the rescue but not all goes as planned.
Why rec this fic:
It's one of those fics that make you come back again and again to reread it, even though you know you'll need to keep tissues ready. The scenario is a version of 'fuck or die', but deals with the aftermath, not the actual non-con. The fic centers on the rescue and trying to deal with what happened, on how to keep their friendship.
I apologize, I linked the wrong fic. All fixed now!

After Bashir made such an 'interesting new friend' at Quark's, his interest is piqued and he decides that the game Garak started is far from over. What could be more interesting than spying on a spy?
Why rec this fic
Because it's really really fun. It follows the events of the show, starting in S1. The author does a great job of capturing Bashir's naivete and arrogance, alongside his enhancements and his necessary paranoia. Bashir and Garak banter and flirt with each other and there's really hot sex.
This story is a WIP but it updates frequently.

Ten years ago, Elim Garak went under deep cover.
Why rec this fic
This is a really fascinating AU. Remember what they did to Kira in "Second Skin"? How they changed her appearance to Cardassian and tried to convince her she was a sleeper agent? This is what happened to Garak in this AU, just well, the other way around.
Anyway, I really like this story and I can't wait to see where it will go.

Pretty much as the title says. They're illustrations with small drabbles/ficlets. They also serve as prompts, so anybody on AO3 has blanket permission to use these in any fics here if you like (which includes the illustrations, you can post them in your fic if your fic is based on them!). Right now these will probably heavily be Bashir/Garak. (Also features redesigned aliens)
Why rec this fic:
The art and the alien redesign are utterly stunning. If you've not looked at this, what are you waiting for?

Summary: During a sudden rescue mission into Cardassian Space, Julian sees the real truth behind his friendship with Garak... or does he? Author's Note: This is set somewhere around second season. Probably not all that long after "The Wire". HUGE thanks to Jen, who saw what I could not and helped me to write a far more satisfying piece as a result. She threw in a great BETA too! Thanks, Jen! I hope you like the re-worked version!
Why rec this fic
I have to admit this is a reluctant rec. The author's Garak is great and IC, the problem comes about half way through when they are back at DS9 and the author starts writing Bashir. I would stop reading then. He's completely unrecognizable and OOC. I still love this fic and the whole game of betrayal and rescue.

WIP, most likely abandoned
Why rec this fic:
It's a 1920s prohibition gangster AU. Garak is a mobster and Bashir runs a free clinic. I don't usually like AUs but this one captured me. I just adore the prose and characterization. Seriously give this one a try, you won't regret it.

Oneshot
It's the "crashed on a planet" trope, with additional "aliens made them do it". Except no one does it, and the aliens are something in the air.
In any case, Garak goes feral, and it's cuter than anyone expected.
Why rec this fic
Because I can't stop giggling over Garak collecting shiny objects like a bowerbird.

For once it is not Bashir who's oblivious.
Why rec this fic:
Garak fuming and stewing and being adorably jealous is really cute.

An AU take on Season 5's Doctor Bashir, I Presume. With no recourse but to resign from the service, Bashir takes a chance that he couldn't have contemplated as a Starfleet officer. Meanwhile, the crew looks for a creative solution that will keep their doctor on the station.
Why rec this fic:
A more realistic take on what should have happened after "Doctor Bashir, I presume", but still with a great happy ending.

Seems abandoned but is finished enough to enjoy
Stranded on a remote Cardassian colony, Bashir and Garak must seek out a transmitter which is their only hope of rescue. In the process they enter a new stage in their relationship, one that is not meant to last.
Why rec this fic:
Even though it's abandoned it's a great read. The world building is amazing and the story is pretty much a space western. The author does a great job bringing the alien culture and planet to life. And one of my all-time favorites: Huddling for warmth :D

Complete
Warnings: UST, Pining
Just a normal conversation, but the feelings are secret. Garak can't deny it but can't acknowledge it either. Maybe everyone needs a hero.
Why rec this fic
Do you know that one fic that just hurts so good? This is that one fic.
