So earlier this week…
I was told “you’re only good for one thing”.
What that one thing is, I don’t know and, to be honest, I don’t care. Not anymore. I’m done letting this affect me and I’m done bitching about it, because the person all that resentment is directed at is dead.
He died on May 15, 2018 and as far as I’m concerned, all my thoughts of ideation was probably just me trying to synchronize with that guy.
I’m sure he’ll be missed.
Yes, I denied and buried what my X did to me in the past but I sure as hell didn’t let it define me - and I’m doubly sure as hell not going to let this either.
I’m not going to let this affect the kind of person I want to be for myself and should be to anyone else I give a damn about.
That said, these miles aren’t going to run themselves.
Speaking of which, what started out as a 10k ended up as one of these…

I set out to run a 10k and ended up running a half marathon. NBD… 😉

I needed to get a long run in and I wanted to get out of the house and my head (for reasons). What better way to live in the moment than to get out and run?
I had concerns around mile 12.5 and my knees were really hurting and seizing up so I had to slow down further. Since I got off the trail and started running back in city streets, the stop lights were very helpful to slow down my momentum.
I’m supposed to run a full marathon next month. I don’t know how I’m going to do that if I could barely get my knees to flex at the halfway point…

Having a really good weekend and just relieved that all the drama from the past couple of days was all due to a miscommunication. Fuck, I’m so relieved. Me and my sister are on the best of terms and I couldn’t ask for anything more.
Despite breaking my fitness streak, I’m in a really good place right now. I love my sister ❤️.
I’ve been noticing a change in my upper body and that’s great to see too. Got a couple of weeks left before the Cupid run and I wanna look my best.
The weather might not be as good as it was these past few days but I’m looking forward to getting in some time on the trail. Tokyo is looming on the horizon, too.
These miles ain’t gonna run themselves.

I just had my heart broken today.
I knew it was coming and did my best to steel myself against it. To try to stave off the inevitable.
But it still hurt. A lot. More than I expected it to.
But what can i do except to just pick myself back up again and focus on myself improvement.

We have some warm days coming up this week so I’m sure I’m going to destroy this one.
The Tokyo virtual marathon is coming up quick and I haven’t received any materials for it yet. I feel uneasy about it because I haven’t gotten much running done recently but I’m going to give it a shot.

I come across a song in my feed that is an absolute gem. A perfect balance of originality and energy…

And every once in a while, I come across a song that just nails what I’m feeling perfectly. As if it had been custom made for me - a bespoke soundtrack for the b-movie that is my life.

And it’s that feeling of hopelessness and stultification coming from a delusion that I have some kind of value… it gets to a point where it’s unbearable and all I want to do is unplug. For a while I felt really good about myself but I guess some things just aren’t meant to be. I thought I really had something here.
My face feels numb.
The weather’s improving this week so at least I can get some miles in. Tokyo’s not gonna run itself.

Can’t go running in this cold…
I probably wont get any miles in until next Thursday so I’ll be focusing on strength training. I got my hands on a 65 pound Olympic barbell so I can get some deadlifts and rows done. I also really need to focus on arms and shoulders - I wonder how much progress I can make in one month.
I don’t feel great. I mean aside from lack of sleep I’m fine but my headspace isn’t in a good place.
Maybe I’ll write more about that to help me sort it out.

What do you get when you cross a person with poor navigational sense with a person that gives vague and inaccurate directions?
You get a match made in hell and phone calls to an annoyed runner that doesn’t have much time to train for next month’s marathon to begin with.
This was a shitty run.
I’m going to try to get some miles in before the temperature drops on Monday. I keep seeing reports of impending snowstorms in Chicago this weekend so I might have to stick to strength training.

After injuries, surgery, work and holidays, I’m back on here! But as always, I haven’t stood still. I found a way to stay active and keep working towards my goal. Although I keep having to push the photo shoot back, I’m working towards shorter term goals.
I’ve signed up for the Tokyo Marathon (virtual run! 😅) so I’m going to knock out the one goal I had for 2024 before the end of winter! The thing is that I’m going to have to do it in the dead of a chicago winter so I’m hoping the weather will cooperate. I really wanted to do the Chicago Marathon but I missed the deadline to apply for that one. Pretty sure I’ll do the Chicago Marathon next year but I really want to travel to Tokyo and do that one someday. No better way to experience Tokyo, right? And yes, I’m learning Japanese, because I wanna do it right.
I’m also participating in the Cupid Run in February and raising money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. I’m almost halfway to my fundraising goal and with the support of generous souls, I’ll be taking my pants off and running a lap around Wrigley Field in February.

I’m going for 2250 days of hitting my Move goal. I’m only about 230 days away from reaching this milestone. It’s gonna happen!

Marathon Training: Good to be back!

Finally getting some miles in after an extended involuntary hiatus. It’s really great to be back running the lakefront and it was such an amazing day for it!
I’m not sure if it’s my shoes or that I put in 7 miles after not doing anything but 600 meters before the end, my left knee started aching and I had to really pull back on the effort. I was expecting the right knee to give me grief too but that held up.
Anyway, I got a couple of recovery runs planned for the next couple of days and have to be more diligent about stretching because there’s a 6K run scheduled for next Saturday.

Marathon training: Speed run!

I definitely wanted to get this one in before the temperature went up later in the day so once I got out of work, i grabbed my gear and did a warm up run on the way to Ping Tom park. I was rewarded with a lovely early morning view of downtown chicago.

Marathon training week 3: Gratitude

The theme for today’s NRC session is Gratitude. I definitely have much to be grateful for. Everything from the people in my life to where I live and my time here, including getting a second chance at living my best life. Not to mention that I’m even able to get out and put some miles in. On top of all that, I’m extremely grateful to a stranger that really helped me out in a very dire situation today. All she said was “pay it forward” so that’s what will be done.
It was a good run, BTW and obviously not in the middle of Nowhere, IL as I thought it would be. That run was postponed due to heavy rain in the area. I had a celebratory cold brew in the mean time…

Marathon training: week 3 - Tokyo drift
Got a sweet running session in this early evening. Great weather and clear paths - can’t ask for too much more. Hadn’t been past the Adler Planetarium in a while so it was nice to swing by. To be honest, it feels like it went quickly!
Got an easy 5K tomorrow so that should be fun despite being in the middle of Nowhere, IL.

Marathon training: week 2 is done!

Ran a crazy ass route in Oak Park because there really isn’t anywhere to run in the area I was in aside from a track in a park. Great for a warmup but I need a little something extra for a 10K.
It was a good run but I started feeling some joint stiffness towards the end. This is as far as I’ve ever gone and I’m a little concerned if I might be hitting my limit.
I got a 6K then a 5K in the next couple of days and finishing it off with a 7 mile run next week. That’s doable, right?
