Who said only Diamonds are a Girls’ Best Friend...
This Autumn season I am fascinated with the idea of using something very foreign to me - accessories! I walk down the grey streets of London gazing at men and women using unique and colourful jewellery to express their individuality and artistic ‘flair’.
Maybe this is the year to broaden my horizon and look towards the idea of glitz and sparkle!

Though the term came to pass in the 19th century, accessories have been used for generations in religion, tribes, monarchs and fashion as trinkets, heirlooms, and also as a sign of wealth and authority; they are a symbol or statement to many individuals in diverse cultures.

I would like to add here that I’m not a ‘pro’ in the fashion industry, however this week I was invited to a launch trunk show cocktail party to look at Jill Hopkin’s newest jewellery compilation! In my beautiful yet extremely brief encounter with the Bulles Collection, I was transfixed on the authenticity of these delicate accessories.
This inspirational event has altered my perception. Accessories are not just an add on but a completion

Feathers & Jerk Chicken
There is no better way to start the blog, Ramblings of a Fashion Amateur than to scribble down my thoughts on the iconic Notting hill Carnival. Though I am surprised yearly by the overwhelming sights of crowds crashing past with noises of whistles and horns readily anticipating the steel drums and sound systems, and the thickening smells of weed and jerk chicken lingering through the boarded up streets [if you have ever been you will know what I’m talking about], I am continually mesmerised by the flashes of vibrant costumes and glistening feathers parading through Notting hill.

I stand in awe for hours as I watch men, women and children dancing carefree in passionately designed attair advocating peace, justice and equality. I see colours of green and gold threading past me representing those affected by Grenfell, the smiles and laughter of all enjoying new experiences together, exotic food recipies shared between generations.
I thank you Notting hill Carnival for never ceasing your cause as you illuminate the streets with glitter, flowers and exilerating floats through this current generation of war, hate and disparity.
As I see it, fashion isn’t just about what and how you wear it. It is a representation of self, an art piece ready to be explored.
