i really wish people had told me sooner.

i am not mad at the criticism im getting. i think to some extent, it's valid. now i wish they would've just commented politely that im drawing him incorrectly instead of passively aggressively qrting me. or that they would’ve said something sooner in the whole two years ive been drawing him.

either way, im quitting drawing him for now. will just practice him on my own. maybe ill quit drawing in general at this point. extremely extremely tired of being bashed on this year. wouldn't happen if i never picked up a pen.

The chatter died down as everyone faced Woongki, Ricky bewildered. An announcement? "I'd like you children to now fight one another to the death, until only one of you remains! That sole survivor... will be the heir to the entire ZEROBASEONE estate!"

Adopted into the prestigious ZEROBASEONE family, Ricky is forced into a death game where he must kill his eight other siblings and become the heir to the estate, or die trying. Uriel Character Analysis Deep-Dive: Sungmin from WTSFY

hello everyone! i'm back with another analysis i said i was gonna do and then got lazy oops. this series shows how i meant for these characters to be portrayed, their character arcs, and so on so forth.

today's analysis is OH SUNGMIN from WHEN THE SUN FINDS YOU, my Rush Hour team-centric crackfic! this was requested by my ex-friend, but i'm still gonna do it as i promised. THERE WILL BE HEAVY SPOILERS, PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

JUNG MINGYU (GOD-SHATTERING MANIA) NA KAMDEN (EVEN STARS DIE EVENTUALLY)

Sungmin's General Character Arc

Sungmin is the main character of WTSFY, and while this fic is majorly a crackfic, he was mainly placed in that setting and world to fix one thing—the dynamic of his current team. He's the leader of a team that's falling apart, and they're on the verge of collapse. He's close with Hiroto and Takuto, but he has problems with Ricky and Jingxiang's fights, and he's starting to lose control and his ability to lead as things escalate. The world is a very much needed way to cathartically vent out his frustrations in a lucid-fever-dream-like manner while also figuring out how to resolve the issue by tapping into the other members' insecurities and their personalities, all tied into the world as a way to make the metaphor literal.

All in all, before anything else, he makes it clear from the very start he's doing it for the team, to keep everyone together: "Sure, he isn't exactly the best leader, but he still cares for all of them deeply, and he wants to try. In his universe, Ricky and Jingxiang are best friends, despite all of their arguments. They're still a team in the end, and he knows he has a responsibility to keep them together. He has to try, for the sake of Ricky and Jingxiang's failing relationship, for poor Takuto, and for Hiroto." He still has problems with himself thinking he's the worst leader on the planet, but he wants to find that redemption for himself and that's the whole reason why he's there in the first place. He finds everyone at their worst state of mind, and he does his best to fix them, to figure out how to solve their problems, and in the process, solve his own problems: "He thinks of Takuto, bruised eye sticking out to him indicating just how bad the bullying had become. He thinks of Ricky's tired expression, on the verge of tears, charismatic image completely shattered with the weight of his problems. He thinks of Hiroto, somehow stuck in all of this mess, his son, how he would never want to put Hiroto in this situation."

Relationship Changes and Problem-Solving

Sungmin first tries to hear Ricky out, and then hears out Jingxiang. He sidelines Hiroto and Takuto in the process, especially Takuto. He gives out advice to Ricky and Jingxiang, but when things don't really change, he decides to step in like he was originally planning to in the real world, only to take it to the extreme by destroying the mannequins that were bullying Takuto. In this way, he destroyed Takuto's source of trauma, but he never actually solved the problem as Takuto's life was still the same even after, which was the problem he was supposed to be solving in the first place. Between all of that, Hiroto is definitively lost and needs a guiding hand, but Sungmin doesn't offer that to him until he finally reveals the truth about himself. Hiroto tries to cope with it in his own way, but even he still needs love and guidance:

"Tell me the truth. You're not my dad, are you?"

"I'm not. But I'm still Oh Sungmin, just... just not the Sungmin you know."

"I had a feeling, but I kept ignoring it because it was easier to just believe..."

When the intervention finally happens, Sungmin then realizes that what he should've done all along was ask Takuto how he felt, as he was the center of the whole situation. It wasn't as if his original ideas were a total failure, as everyone managed to make up with each other, but the solution was right there in his face all along, and now he knows how it'll play out.

Sungmin's Ending

With that knowledge in mind, the dream world finally decides to take him out, and that's how he ends up back in the real world, holding that same intervention. Instead of keeping it at surface-level for the cameras, he digs in on purpose, finally getting everyone to be honest, and it strengthens the bond between them. Even though he was thoroughly traumatized by the end of the whole thing, he had grown from the experiences he had in the other world, and that's how he ended up saving Rush Hour team! Now whether or not he ever truly left that world is still ambiguous (and I'll never give a proper answer to that ending), but at least things have resolved, and he can rest easy.
