“you might’ve got me last time, but this time I came prepared!” she hops down from her place on the wall as irelia approaches, swinging a kunai around her finger. training with irelia always keeps her on her toes, if only because she’s ready to steal a kiss whenever she manages to break the other’s defences. “ready when you are, captain.”
“You think so, Kali?”
Whirring around her in response to Akali’s landing, the blades rise between them, a veritable curtain of iron. Irelia stretches out a hand, and the turning of her palm coincides with the way the blades fan out and scatter like petals on the wind.
She brings her hand back, and her other hand meets it in a compact, martial gesture.- a signal of her readiness to spar. Her knees bend, her strong foot placed forward, and she pushes the locks out of her eyes as she sizes Akali up.
They’ve performed this song and dance countless times, but it never fails to get the adrenaline pumping. Irelia can never predict the outcome of one of their matches - an accomplished ninja like her always keeps her on her toes.
She narrows her eyes, finding her center. She inhales, and the blades seem to take in air with her.
Then Irelia exhales, and her body flashes forward like lightning.

An Irelia mention in Sona’s updated VO makes me very happy considering she didn’t get mentions from people like Sett and other Ionian legendary champ skins iirc
It shows that they’ve canonically met during/around the end of the war which is interesting for Sona’s timeline

" I don't s'ppose you'd ever perform in my pit, huh... " A sharp grin is leveled at the woman, a piece of dried sweetgrass hanging from his mouth. " Think you're too good for us? " ( @wolfenisms )
“Battle is no performance,” Irelia corrects him. “Dancing with ribbons and dancing with blades are two different forms of art... and you will never convince me to bring my family’s steps to your baleful pits.”
As if to further push her point, Irelia places a hand on the hilt of her blade, end pointed downwards, shielding them from Sett. He's wearing that toothy grin again, the one that would appear in her dreams every now and then. What an inconvenience.
“Some of your professed ‘aces’ wouldn’t be able to keep up with my guards for even a minute,” Irelia says, jabbing back at him. “I hope the difference between them is nowhere close compared to a match between the two of us.”

" Missed me, Captain Irelia? " There's a joking tone as she utters the formal title, not mocking but rather amused with herself - there is unmistakable delight in seeing her also - as she jumps from the branches of the ancient tree and lands lightly on her feet a few paces away from the other. ( @kunoichine )
The words uttered from above her are like the pitter-patter of rain on the rooftops in the evening.
Irelia turns around in time to catch a green-clad figure alight from the trees and landing with a softness that matches leaves in autumn. Her blades seem to almost vibrate in the air with excitement. She looks at Akali, then to the tree from which she has leapt, and then back to her, before walking up to her and - after a moment’s pause, where the grin on Irelia’s face says it all - enclosing her in a tight embrace.
“You’re back, Kali,” she mutters, her lips stamped into the crook of her shoulder. The familiar warmth rushes into Irelia’s body like a furnace coming to life as it burns with coal. She remembers the odds and ends of Akali’s body, every scar and ridge, like the earth remembers the valleys and hills that dot its landscape.
She has grown too fond of these memories to ever let them go.
“How long have you been waiting there in the branches?”

There's a box left at the Captain's doorstep. Inside is a bed of pink blossoms, and the bow to a violin. But if Irelia were to reach into the box, she may find that there are razors scattered beneath the petals and pointed up. The note: 'Find the music. Listen.'
“A gift for you, Captain,” calls one of the guards.
Irelia rounds the corner of the open corridor, a warm breeze blowing between the pillars. Business in the Placidium was plentiful even in the early morning hours, and a handful of guards salute to her as she walks. “Oh?” Her gaze settles on the rectangular box, and her eyes narrow. “Has the Order of the Lotus sent their donation early today?”
“No, Captain.”
“Stand back, Mitsuri.”
The woman, scarcely into her adult years, gingerly takes a step back, as if the box was some kind of explosive - and Irelia doesn’t know enough to say otherwise. Irelia calls for someone to fetch a long piece of cloth, and to wrap up the box so they can safely examine it.
Another guardswoman dons a pair of gloves and opens the lid. Since the Brotherhood had accelerated their activities, Irelia had learned to look her gift horses in the mouth, and to not let even seemingly harmless acts of charity go unchecked. She sees the petals, arranged around the thin wood of a violin bow with a dedicated florist’s care.
Almost too much care...
“Stand back,” Irelia orders the guards. “Put the box on a table.” As the guards give her space, Irelia calls for one of her blades, holding it in the air over the box before swinging her hand down and sending the edge straight through the box. Irelia hears the clashing of steel against the serrations of other metal, and her face displays a grim frown.
“I thought so.” She walks towards the box, seeing the hole her blade made covered around the edge by sharp, minuscule razors.
And in the corner of the box, a note written in calligraphy. “Find the music. Listen.”
Irelia mutters a curse to herself, before ordering the box sent away. “Close one.”
“Who would’ve sent something like that to us, Captain?” Mitsuri asks.
Her teeth scrape against her tongue. “An artist who is too insistent on displaying his work to me.”

“ i can’t believe you put yourself at risk for my benefit ”
Irelia groans. Pain throbs in her hip like the slow ringing of a gong, and she winces as she pushes herself up to a sitting position. She grimaces as her body heaves at the effort, and her vision goes blurry as she looks back up towards Janna.
She wipes her dirt-covered hands off the hem of her tunic, and tries to return to the composure that befits someone of her station.
“It’s not just your benefit, you know - I rest easy knowing you’re okay.” Irelia scans the ground around them. Her blades had been knocked away from the volley of arrows she had jumped in front of. Now they were staggering back to her, wobbling in the air like pairs of limping legs.
“Maybe I was a bit outlandish...” Irelia admits, her eyes dropping from Janna’s gaze. “But the blades are stronger and quicker than any raised shield might be. Shouldn’t I make the most out of their power?”

“  if you get sick of me  ,  i’m sorry ahead of time  ” ( akali )
“Sick of you?” Irelia frowns, putting down the quill in her hand. Akali sits at the foot of her desk, a quilt laid out below her as she harbors a bowl of ramen in her lap. A pleasant aroma rises from the broth, and Irelia can almost feel her taste buds wanting to leap out of her tongue.
“I’m sure that won’t happen any time soon.” Yes, she had spent the past several nights with her. Yes, it was difficult to explain why there was a rogue, wandering kunoichi in her bed, and why there seemed to be so many more sharp objects in her quarters nowadays. Akali had clung to her with a timid neediness that made her feel like she was taking care of a stray at times. But she could never reduce her to that - Akali gave her companionship, a warm body to be around. And she loved to listen to her ramble about the antics she found herself in all across the country.
Despite the inconveniences, Irelia relished in it. She had someone to look out for, to take care of. And seeing Akali blossom and smile with each passing day made her efforts worth it.
“If I do get sick, though,” Irelia continues, eyeing Akali and gesturing her closer with a beckoning hand, “I’m sure the remedy would be right on your lips.”

"It is like hearing a snake sing an aria."
“Your wicked tongue is deserving of no such songs.”
There is... corruption in the air.
Irelia doesn’t notice any bodies around them - yet - but that decadence hangs in the air like a heavy fog, the anticipation bearing down on her like the sweltering heat of a humid day. What is he planning? What has he already planned? Whenever she comes face-to-face with Jhin, a lingering fear seeps into her mind that she’s already played right into his hand.
But she must not let doubt sink in now. She must draw courage from her scabbard, and cut through the lies that coil around this serpent’s scales.
The blades shimmer in front of her, and her steel sings its own song.
“Let your words fall on empty ears, while my blades will fall upon you.”

“I would love to have the Duchess’ hand, if she would accept me,” Irelia says, eyes bright and a smile creeping onto her face. “She’s stood by me for so many years, and has always been a pillar of support and wisdom. The least I can do is offer back my devotion.”
“The way the raven dances is a sight to behold. Our very own silk dances are said to have come from old vastayan combat dances, and she carries herself like a whirlwind on the battlefield.” Irelia can’t help but feel a tremor quake through her skin. “If there were to be a night shared between us, I think it would be quite... colorful.”
Irelia lets out a sigh as she addresses the last option.
“A person like Syndra is simply too volatile to try to work with. I have heard the stories of her suffering, and I would deeply wish to avoid conflict with a fellow Ionian, but she is a threat. And unless she decides otherwise, I can’t in good conscience let her go so easily.”

ˊ stop acting so nonchalant about getting hurt or killed, irelia, ˊ her words roused more sternly than what she had wished for, albeit, part of it was for her own good, the recklessness and impulsivity that she exuded and partly... as much as janna hated to admit it, she absolutely despised tending to eccentric, overzealous individuals ; she found herself shortly feeling appreciative of her composure.
Janna’s words wash over her like a spray of seawater in a strong gale.
“I...”
Is she right? Does she eschew her own safety to ensure the safety of others? Does she forego her own needs in order to pander to ideals that she values more than her own worth?
It seems to sting more, to cut deeper, when it comes from a discerning eye as nonjudgmental as Janna. It’s as if the long thread of her patience has been spun, and Irelia had pulled and pulled without realizing how much had gone to waste.
“I apologize. I don’t mean to come off as so reckless.” She lets her blades fall, gathering them around as they hover just over the ground. They seem to slouch, sheepish like their master, minimizing their own image as if they were a rebuked child.
“Sometimes i weigh my responsibilities so... heavily. I feel like I would shame myself if I didn’t meet them.”
