When he died when the children were eleven, Tiegan was the only one who continued traveling into the forest to hunt, and eventually, Katniss joined him; Gale Hawthorn ended up joining them a year later, and while Gale and Tiegan did not develop a bond, they were civil enough to one another, and the trio ended up developing a pact to help each other out, especially when the tesserae came into play.

At the age of sixteen, the odds are not in Tiegan's favor, as he is Reaped straight from the bowl for the Hunger Games. His competitor is also a surprise; the sweet only daughter of the resident baker, Petra Mellark, with whom Tiegan traded meat for bread and been friendly with over the years. When the two of them leave District 12, he is already formulating a plan to try and help her win the Games, as he feels that, due to being a loner otherwise, no one but the Evergreens will miss his absence if he dies, not even his sickened mother, who was not present at the Reaping and likely did not even know her last child was being sent to his own death.

The only thing that Tiegan is not prepared for is Petra dropping the bomb during their interviews in the Capitol that she is in love with him, and had been for years. Things get complicated after that.

Sexual Sunday Thoughts for Tiegan: trigger warning for abuse

Tiegan is a survivor of CSA. He was nine when he was first assaulted by older foster boys, and it escalated to adults beginning to be gross with him as the years passed. He has not known sex without knowing the violence that comes with it.

By the time he's fifteen, Tiegan has learned to use sex as a transactional thing, so he's sold his body for food or money, or even just a place to sleep at night when he's on the streets. He felt no pleasure from this moments, often disassociating during the actual event in an order not to have a panic attack.

Once Tiegan has moved in with the Hardy family, he's stopped having sex altogether because he no longer sees a reason for it. If he's going to be honest with himself, Tiegan would be happy to never have sex again.

Only if he's with someone he trusts on a deep emotional level can he try sex in a more pleasurable, intimate way. It would mostly be a way to please his partner, as he doesn't really see why it would matter to *him* if he got off or not; the closeness is what he truly craves, deep down.

Overall, Tiegan views sex in a skewed way. He doesn't necessarily see any positives with it, and he often has flashbacks and panic attacks if someone initiates sexual contact. But, if he feels safe, and loved, and he loves his partner, he may be more open to exploration; he takes on a more submissive role when he begins to heal and get more comfortable with sex in general.
