"People just started censoring themselves because they feared the potential lack of views and likes and followers [...]"
internally underlining this statement five times, because OP hit the nail on the head here.
Endlessly diabolical how you can't say words like rape and suicide uncensored without either being criticised by idiots or punished by conglomerates.

People used to comment on web comics.
People used to comment on fanfiction.
People used to comment on fanart.
People used to comment on OCs.
I hate "content" culture.
I hate "consuming content" and scrolling immediately to the next thing.
People used to be excited about the art that other people created.
People used to want to share that excitement with creators.
I hate this future.

All those apocalypse kinda kdramas only teach me that if there should ever occur something like that, kill the annoying assholes first so they do not cause more deaths than necessary 😂 cause jesus fucking christ, the building representative and that dude who killed his wife in Happiness? The amount of times I would've just pushed them out of the fucking building- preferably from high up to make sure they're definitely dead.... Istg they made everything so much harder than it already was...
Anyways, morale of the story: do not be too annoying in my direct vicinity when there is a crisis. I will make it look like an accident.

Every single fic update there is an author trying frantically to find the right balance between a nonchalant aside of "leave a comment if you enjoyed =)" and clinging desperately to the coat tails of a random stranger, dragging along behind them on the street wailing "Please, please! I have to know what you thought! I'm desperate to talk to people about this! Ask me about the alliterative repetition! Ask me about the symbolism!"

Me, looking at my options on Netflix:"Oh, I could put on this new show, it looks interesting"
Also me:[hits play on a show I've seen probably over 10 times] "Yeah, that hits the spot."

Small vent:
I keep running into posts in tags I follow where people say 'I want more [x]!!!'
Which is fine. We're all allowed to want more of whatever it is that's twirling our beanie this week.
But when x is a thing that you and several friends already do, and this person hasn't liked it, or reblogged it, or commented on it, despite the fact that it uses the same tag, or spoken to you or those people about the previous bits of it that already exist, I have to say, you're not helping your case here for having me jump back on the wagon to make more.
I know I don't create on command, but it sure helps when I know my work will be recognized, acknowledged, and appreciated afterwards, and people come to talk to me about it. This is a community. That's what communities do.
(And I'm so lucky in this! There are so many people who follow my blog who *do* already do this! Thank you for being awesome! )

After looking for this, I found two others instead....(And reported them)
People are like "this is so convenient, I can follow my favorite authors/stories" BITCH, how about subscribing to your fucking favorite authors or stories on AO3 since that is already provided from the site itself. You get a fucking email notification if you turn that on in your damn account. I am so done with the youth. They are so fucking stupid, I just can't. Everything needs to be an app or they lose their mind.
And before anyone said "but how would they know?" Well, how about reading ao3's faqs? Or ALL the frigging posts on tumblr where it's explained in detail....but oh wait, you'd need to have the ability to form a thought for that and go looking for it. The laziness is just next level. They'd rather throw out all their privacy and data for anyone to find than use a damn browser...🤦🏼‍♀️
Tumblr media
*SIGHS*
Another AO3 app that's pretending to be official when it's not (or at least isn't making it clear its unofficial.) They're using AO3's name and logo, and embedding ads.
There is no official AO3 app
Someone else is gathering your data, potentially your log in information etc and making use of it how they please. (They say they're not but their privacy policy says otherwise)
They are making money from the ads without the fic writer's consent.
They've also rated it Pegi 3 (which is ludicrous)
Please, even if you care about nothing else, for the safety of your data, please don't use this app. Certainly don't give it your AO3 log in details.
I've told AO3 that it's infringing on its copyright. I will be requesting they remove access of my work as I do not consent to my creative content being used to generate ad revenue for them.
I will be reporting it as incorrectly rated.
The only email address I can find is [email protected] which is included in their privacy policy, and [email protected] as their developer.

When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then?
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
You are really tired and frustrated. All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.
1. But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
2. Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment
3. Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.
4. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.

even if straight women did dominate m/m shipping to the degree people like to claim (which I’ve never seen substantiated and which has never reflected my own fandom experience), it wouldn’t hurt to maybe extend a little empathy with regard to why women who are attracted to men might find straight erotica painful and alienating to consume. perhaps apply some critical thought before whipping out fetishization as a trump card.

Title: The Awkwardness of Love Rating: Teen and Up Audience Pairing: Song Ha-young/Jung Woo-joo A/N: I realize I might be the lone target audience for this pairing but oh well, maybe someone else saw the potential xD This has been sitting in my drafts long before Valentine's Day but I forgot to post it on time lol. There is a tiny amount of heartache in there, but mostly cuteness. Summary: Woo-joo asked Ha-young to be his Valentine. Although, he didn't sign anything. Not like Ha-young would need a name to figure it out. Word count: 1,6k
Excerpt:
“People lose their sense on the full moon,” Ha-young softly replied, “Tomorrow's report might be even worse.” He said, his face as impassive as ever, but he caught Chief Kook's interest.
“How so?” Young-soo asked, sitting up straight to look over their computer screens and at Ha-young, who didn't reciprocate his gaze. The Inspector picked something up and held it up to show their Chief, who leaned forward to read the post-it Woo-joo immediately recognized. “Will you be my Valentine? Oh! It's Valentine's already? Aah! I forgot to send my wife flowers…” Young-soo sighed long suffering. He perked up all of a sudden. “Wait, why do you have that?”
Ha-young shrugged and put the post-it down somewhere on his desk. “I got chocolates, didn't you?” he said, but Woo-joo noticed the Inspector deliberately didn't look his way.
“No,” Young-soo whined, “Who would only gift you chocolates? That's so unfair, I deserve chocolates too.” The chief pouted and leaned back in his chair with crossed arms. He seemed to remember Woo-joo was in the room though and turned his attention to him, “Hey, did you get any?”
Woo-joo pretended to look around his desk and shook his head, “None for me either.” He shrugged and caught Ha-young looking at him out of the corner of his eyes. “I guess Inspector Song is just more popular than us.”

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning
If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:
Tumblr media
These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:
Tumblr media
But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.
Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.
If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.
Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.
Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.
Update: There's now a Megathread about this on the AO3 subreddit.

“You are responsible for the minors in your fandom!!!”
No, I’m fucking not. I’m not your parent. My past-times do not automatically sign me up to act in loco parentis. If you need someone else to monitor your own content consumption online, go get mommy and/or daddy to set up a content blocker on your computer.

Seriously....being kind of Russian Roulette lactose intolerant is so annoying. There are days where I can eat a little dairy and be fine ...days where I can indulge in everything dairy the whole day and be fine....
And then there are days where any amount of dairy intake will lead me to pain and misery.
I never know what day it will be until it's too late.
