Could be the difference in preference of the inhabitants. Could be the different breeds of dog...(-_- ) But rest assured, gravy can always save the day when your food may be questionable, say, if it came out of a freezer bag hours before and was simply heated to serve. The meal was so hi-so that we immediately went to get something to eat after having had our (rediculously poor excuse for a) meal. Putting the World in my Mouth, One Bite at a Time - Khao Mun Gai aka Garlic Rice & Chicken is a ubiquitous Thai meal that can be brunch, lunch or dinner. The very worst can be found in marketplaces & street stalls while the very best can be found at nondescript restaurants usually known only to locals. One can usually spot a good place though: is packed during brunch time and the food at every table looks the same. The rice is usually soaked in oil before going to steam w/unshelled cloves of garlic, peels and all. This ensures complete enfusion into the rice. The chicken is steamed normally so quality doesnt vary greatly, but what restaurants compete over is the dipping sauce, which sets apart the wannabes from the masters. Usually made on a base of sweet soy sauce, lots of raw, minced garlic, chillis and any additional distinctively chatacteristic family secret ingredients. The cucumber slices are simply for occasionally cleansing the palette. 🌅 Putting the World in my Mouth, One Bite at a Time 🌄 Stray-cation Day 242: Once the food has been separated (entrees, drinks, desserts, fruit, inedibles) the main dishes are emptied into bowls for service to the monks for their morning meal. The traditional devote will only eat one meal per day, but the "modern monks" will usually eat twice, once in the early morning (7am) & once again just before midday (11am). After that its only tea/coffee/water until the next day. I have a hard time distinguishing these things from flat frogs & toads in tge road but the tuffs of fur are a dead giveaway. In Thailand rats are call Tom & cats are called Jerry as the cats here wont even bother w/the rats.
