If you’re wondering where I’m at in life, I’m right here. I went to talk to a lecturer about an essay and I ended up talking about how awful the world is and how stressed I am but I’m stressed about everything all the time and have been since the dawn of time so it’s not weird and I’m great. So he probably thinks I’m a loon. Not a loon. Just inherently stressed. Not sure if that’s a thing but I’m sure it’s true but I’m pretty sure I’m stressed because I care about everything but WHY IS THERE SO MUCH TO STRESS ABOUT. Everything is unnecessary and rude (I’m fiiiiine, I’m seeing my dog on Thursday so it's not all bad).

My first week of second year was good, I have loads of things to do and it’s stressful but good. Only downside how cold my room is but I got an electric blanket so it’s not that bad. My dad’s cousin lives near Guildford so he gave me a lift to Watford for my great-aunty’s birthday meal and I got to see my parents and everyone’s dog except my own (they were all small and boring, my dog is the best). I got to speak to my mum properly about what’s going on with her (she’s not great) because my dad told me something my mum didn’t want to worry me with and he told me not to say anything but that’s not my style. I’m a goddamn adult, tell me things!!! I’m worried but not too worried because that’s not helpful for anyone and if I worry it’ll make my mother sad. Doctors have a job, they’ll do it. Hopefully whatever they need to do will work (cross your fingers). Sadness aside, I had a nice night last night. I went out for drinks with someone on my course and her housemates came along and I got to meet her boyfriend and they invited me over for Halloween/dinner sometimes (they’re babes) and we talked about AHS and I remember seeing some third years and gushing over one of our lecturers in Spoons, that was hilarious (everyone loves Adam but I did get stuck right in front of him and his crazy intense eye contact on Thursday which was great when he asked me if I like doors (RE: doing my independent study project on ‘A Doll’s House’). My weekend was filled with great trousers, my parents, and alcohol and I’m a happy bean. I’m also seeing my best pal next week so all in all, can’t complain.

I honestly think relationships in general would be healthier, in general, if we didn’t believe they should last forever.

When the default is “forever” and shorter relationships are seen as a failure, we miss out on a lot. We stay in relationships that don’t work because they’re not “bad enough” to leave, as though not wanting the relationship anymore isn’t a good enough reason. We deny ourselves happy memories, saying “If it doesn’t work now, our love then wasn’t real.” We pass on relationships we know would be short, because if it doesn’t last forever, what’s the point in joy in the moment?

An ending isn’t a failure. It’s an ending. Most relationships have them. What would our relationships be like if we stopped focusing on our fear of endings and started focusing on what we - and our friends, partners, and family - need right now?

Being back in Guildford is my favourite. We had a talk for returning students with our course director (who said we're actual adults now that we're second years, no, Matt, no) and Alex who I worked with for the entirety of the last semester gave me the biggest hug and scared the life out of me but it was great and we're going to Spoons after our lecture tomorrow and I'm just such a happy bean! She told me that her housemate really wants me to come round, which is so nice because I've only met her twice. People are great sometimes. I also got some great trousers today and went to the library and did things and my rent is coming down so yay all round!
