Had a blast filming product videos at Alive Studios for Pure Le Natural鈥檚 new line of Oil of Oregano formulas. Being behind the camera and memorizing lines was a whole new experience for me, but I loved the challenge!
Pushing your boundaries and putting yourself in situations outside your comfort zone is a huge part of self-growth. I believe EVERY experience is a learning experience and continue to push myself everyday to do things that will strengthen me as a person.
Looking forward to seeing the final product, critiquing it and preparing for the next video series!

Welcome Spring!聽 Stay Healthy This Spring By Living With the Season - Not Against It
With the Winter coming to an end and the snow melting away, we welcome Spring - transitional season from the cold (Yin) Winter to the hot (Yang) Summer. Unlike Western philosophy, Chinese Medicine recognizes 5 Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water). All changes in the Universe and in your body happen in accordance to these 5 distinct phases. The season of Spring is represented by the Element of Wood. While Winter is a time for energy conservation and hibernation, Spring is a time for renewal and rejuvenation. The Liver and Gall Bladder are the Organs associated with the season of Spring and the Wood Element - primary organs involved with cleansing. This makes Spring the perfect time for starting a detox/cleanse and new health regimen. Green is the colour associated with Spring and the Liver. Therefore, eating young plants - fresh, leafy greens, sprouts, and immature cereal grasses - can improve the liver's functions and aid in overall health at this time of year. Anger is the emotion associated the the Liver. An imbalanced Liver can give rise to anger and irritability in a person. Conversely, excessive anger can damage the Liver and lead to health concerns.Symptoms of a Liver Imbalance include: headaches, dizziness, eye problems (red, dry, or itchy eyes, floaters, blurred vision), muscular cramping or tenon problems, jaundice, menstrual problems, weak, brittle nails and digestive issues such as IBS, constipation or diarrhea. If you suspect you have a Liver imbalance and would like a full assessment and diagnosis then give me a call to set up an appointment. After all, "If you're not assessing, you're guessing." A full, individualized assessment is needed in order to determine the best course of treatment for you and to help get your body back on track.聽

Cultivate a Healthy Heart With Traditional Chinese Medicine
The Heart organ in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a more encompassing function than the strict physiological description in Western Medicine. In TCM, there is an organ hierachy and the Heart is at the top. It is considered the Emperor/King of all other organs and is responsible for promoting blood circulation to the entire body. Because a well functioning heart is considered paramount over other bodily functions such digestion or urination, all other organs will sacrifice their individual functions in order to balance the heart. In the ancient Chinese Classical text, The Nei Jing, it says, "The heart is the Emperor of all the organ networks...if the heart flares, then all of them will get out of line." As you can see, you can not be healthy if your heart is not functioning properly. The heart houses the Shen - which translates to spirit or mind. Therefore, the heart is the centre of all mental activity, consciousness and thinking. Any disturbance of the Shen can weaken the heart and alternatively, a weak heart can lead to a disturbed Shen. Symptoms of an imbalanced heart and Shen include: insomnia, dream-disturbed sleep, poor memory, inability to think clearly and anxiety.Every organ in TCM has an emotion attached to it. The emotion connected to the heart is Joy. Experiencing joy will feed and nourish your heart. The path to achieving joy is to live your life with wisdom and purpose. Like all things, the key to a healthy heart is balance: excessive joy can damage the heart (this can be seen as excessive laughing or giggling and mania). While not enough joy can cause the heart to become deficient (this is usually seen through loneliness or grieving). Other symptoms of a heart imbalance include: a bitter taste in the mouth, excessive sweating, heart palpitations, tightness in the chest, speaking quickly or talking incessantly, cold limbs, pale face, anemia, muscle weakness and dizziness or fainting. If you suspect you have a heart imbalance call today to schedule an assessment with our Registered Acupuncturist, Amanda Merenda: 647.299.4631聽or visit our website: www.besthealthacupuncture.com聽

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Wishing you much health, happiness and prosperity for the year ahead.
This is a great opportunity for a "fresh" start. Reflect on 2014 - What did you accomplish? What did you do right? What did you do wrong? How did you learn from your mistakes? Choose goals for each area of your life: financial, fitness, mental, personal, etc. Think of the kind of person you want to be in all those aspects and make the appropriate changes. Remember: you don't need to do a complete overhaul of your entire life. Start with small attainable goals and build up to the bigger ones. The most important thing is to make lifestyle changes that are sustainable - not a quick fix that you will give up on after 3 months.

Is your wrist pain REALLY Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)...or is it something else? Here's what you need to know:
How To Distinguish The Symptoms Of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
There are 3 main nerves that innervate your forearm and hands: 1. Radial Nerve, 2. Median Nerve, 3. Ulnar Nerve. Many people falsely believe that any tingling and numbness in their hands and fingers automatically means that they have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), but this is not the case. The ONLY nerve that actually passes through the carpal tunnel (a passageway of ligaments and bone at the wrist) is the MEDIAN nerve. Therefore, in order to have true CTS it must be the Median nerve that is being compressed. This can be diagnosed in the clinic by identifying the exact location of the numbness or through a nerve conduction test with a specialist. True CTS will exhibit symptoms on the palmar aspect of the thumb, index and middle fingers and slightly along the inside part of the ring finger. The Median nerve does not innervate the pinky finger, so any numbness in this area means the problem may be due to the ulnar nerve or a completely different condition all together.聽
Acupuncture works extremely well to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (or any other type of wrist pain). The advantage with聽acupuncture聽is that the needle can be聽inserted聽directly into the carpal tunnel which will then 'create space' and relieve pressure on the median nerve. Cortisone injections and surgery are always a last resort, so it's better to try and treat CTS with acupuncture and regular stretching and strengthening exercises first.聽

Making our years supply of homemade tomato sauce! This year we made 10 boxes of tomatoes which yielded about 80 mason jars worth of sauce. We used Ontario grown Roma tomatoes and filled the jars with fresh basil straight from our garden. It's a lot of work, but well worth it! The sauce tastes great and is all natural - no preservatives or other unknown ingredients. Plus, it's a fun day to spend with my family and carry forward some traditions.

Acupuncture & Hormonal Balance
What are hormones? How do I know if my hormones are balanced?聽
Hormones are chemical messengers secreted directly into your blood by the endocrine glands. The blood then carries these hormones to specific organs in order for them to function properly. Even the slightest variation in hormone secretion (either excess or deficiency) can lead to major changes in your body and cause disease.聽
聽 Signs you have a hormone imbalance:
persistent weight gain
low libido
fatigue
belly fat and loss of muscle mass
anxiety, irritability, depression
insomnia, poor sleep
sweating
digestive problems
cravings
Experiencing any of the above health concerns may indicate an imbalance in your hormones. These signs are your body's way of speaking to you and telling you something is wrong - you need to listen! All symptoms you experience are an external manifestation of an internal imbalance and indicate that your body is not functioning at 100% of it's full potential. Luckily, Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine can help to restore your body back to balance and make sure your hormones are doing exactly what they need to do in your body - nothing more and nothing less! Call today to book an Initial Assessment and find out if your hormones are balanced!聽647.299.4631 | www.besthealthacupuncture.com

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and Acupuncture聽
Restless leg syndrome is more than just unwanted leg twitching at night. Believe it or not, it is a聽neurological disorder聽that is characterized by unpleasant sensations in the legs resulting in 'restlessness.' Feelings such as aches and pains, pins and needles or a crawling sensation in the legs are accompanied with an聽irresistible urge to move聽in order to provide relief from the discomfort. Because this condition occurs at night and significantly disturbs one's sleep it if often discussed in the field of聽sleep disorders.
聽 聽Causes for RLS may be genetic (decreased dopamine levels in the brain), poor nutrition (especially iron) or due to poor circulation in the legs (caused by smoking, diabetes, lack of exercise or other unknown factors).
聽 聽The good news -聽Acupuncture can help!聽Chinese Medicine relates RLS symptoms to an imbalance in the Liver and Kidney Organs. The聽Liver-Kidney system聽gradually declines with aging which explains why this condition is most often seen among those aged 55+. Numbness in the legs indicates a "blood deficiency" pattern according to聽Chinese Medicine Theory which causes poor circulation and exacerbates the condition.
聽 聽The key to a successful recovery is having a thorough assessment and customized treatment plan.聽Like people, no two treatments are the same, which is why it is important to find out how this issue is affecting you specifically. This allows the acupuncturist to tailor the treatment and yield greater results.聽
聽 聽If you or someone you know is suffering from restless leg syndrome please forward this article to them or have them call me for a free 15 minute phone consult! 647.299.4631 [email protected] | www.besthealthacupuncture.com
