hello! have some ramblings:

i’m very much someone who believes that you really don’t ever need a reason to give for inactivity, but honestly... been going through a phase where i hate my writing and that’s made me not want to do anything. i actually finished most of my drafts last month and just never posted them because i wasn’t satisfied with what i’d written. it’s been frustrating. and combine with feeling kinda sorta guilty about not replying after such a long period so it all just compounds?

it sucks! y’anno? because at the end of the day i really do want to write. i’ve barely even scratched the surface on what i want to do with hapi! so many interactions to have and headcanons to post etc. don’t think i’ve ever been so invested in rping a character than i have with hapi, and i refuse to let crummy feelings put a stop to that

in other less distressing news because i don’t want this post to just Be Sad(tm) i finally got around to completing azure gleam and thus the entirety of three hopes. it was fun! story felt a bit all over the place though. at least it’s ultimately separate from three houses and i can integrate my favourite aspects of hopes into houses as i wish (hapi had some good exploration dialogue let me tell you! the ashen wolves & enshrouded memories paralogues too!)

in the end i’m still here! just going through it a little. hope things are going good for everyone else and i hope you’re enjoying engage if you picked it up! engage doesn’t particular interest me so i’ll be playing s-ranking some stages on three hopes in the meantime

hmm... hapi is definitely a ‘acts of service / physical affection’ kind of person

there’s something about the way yuri in particular talks to hapi that i just love, especially at this part during their b-support

yuri is so quick to knock down that way of thinking and to give hapi a much more grounded and realistic interpretation of what happened. he wants to make sure hapi knows that they were never at fault for leaving

yuri then brings in his own personal experience to compare and, more importantly, notes that one of the positives of him leaving was learning how to stargaze, something he specifically learned from hapi. making them know that it’s something he may never have learned if they hadn’t left their village

(it’s small in the grand scheme of things, but i think it’s a nice sentiment)

their a-support too is really good. what i love is how honest yuri is with regards to hapi’s curse. he doesn’t try to sugar-coat it, give pointless pity, imply that it’s ‘not that big of a deal’, or anything like that. no, he’s acutely aware of how detrimental it is (but not so blunt about it like linhardt is). he just straight up agrees with what hapi’s saying

yuri acknowledges that monsters and hapi go hand in hand. it’s likely going to be an inevitability from spending any amount of time with them, and while he certainly offers something to perhaps mitigate the odds of a sigh occurring, he’s ultimately prepared to fight a monster should one show up. and that’s really something hapi appreciates (see balthus, dimitri & byleth a-supports)

and i’ve got to highlight the line “you know you’ll be so caught up in my lively conversations, you’ll have very little time for sighing” because it’s said with such humour that even hapi’s response of “hmm... that plan could backfire. i might find the conversation boring, and then...” is said in the cadence of a joke. they’re having a laugh! at their own curse!

this is just a snippet of what i could say about their dynamic. i think it’s really good and underappreciated

damnit!! this isn’t what they needed right now, some great hulking monster to run around the corner to make a bad day worse than it already was. the only upside was that they sighed out here in the wilderness, away from any undeserving innocents who could’ve been the beast’s next victim. unfortunately, that came with the downside of them being completely and utterly alone. defenceless.

what the hell even was that thing? the only familiar comparison that came to mind was the titanus those who slither in the dark commanded. they always did look strange, unnatural and otherworldly, hapi wouldn’t have put it past them to create even more monstrous contraptions. (all the more reason to be rid of it, they supposed.)

seeing such a beast made the beating of their heart quicken. hapi was well aware of what needed to be done in the moment, like it or not. a fight was in order. if they stayed calm, focused, and careful, it should turn out fine. they can do this on their own.

they hoped.

“...let’s just get this over with.” hapi steadied their shaking hands and reluctantly readied their magic. it was of the dark variety, the kind that’s cruel and vindictive in their properties, capable of exploiting weaknesses and making their enemies truly suffer. not something they enjoyed, in all honesty, neither human nor beast deserved it, but it had to be done so they could live another day.
