Great leftovers and a surprising amount of veggies ahead: my moms sketty
To a large pot you are going to add 1 large or 2 small diced onions, a good amount of chopped carrots, and a bunch of mushrooms some diced some left larger and a good amount of olive oil. Add salt, oregano, basil, and any other Italian herbs your heart desires. You are going to let these cook on medium heat until everything is nice and golden and then you are going to pull it out.
Next, you are going to take a package of ground meat (either turkey or beef) and a package of Italian sausage that you have cut out of its casing (we usually use sweet or mild, but this is up to your flavor preference) and brown the meat to the best of your ability.
When the meat is browned, add a grated zucchini, a bunch of garlic, and your cooked vegetables. On top of that put in a can of diced tomatoes, a jar of tomato sauce, a splash of red wine, and a splash of chicken stock that you pour into the tomato sauce jar and swish it around ti get out all of the tomato sauce.
Now you are going to put the pot on low and cook until it is time to eat
Another classic in my house is tuna casserole
In a pot, boil egg noodles until al dente from the package instructions
In a pan, sautee 1 diced onion and a package of sliced mushrooms until they are golden
After you have drained your noodles, pour them plback into the pot and add in your onions and mushrooms, a can of tuna (one large can or 2 small cans), a large can of cream of mushroom soup, chicken stock that you will use to get out the rest of the mushroom soup from the can, frozen peas, and a generous dash of chalulah hot sauce
You are going to pour this mixture into a large casserole dish and cover with a mixture of melted butter and crushed up Ritz crackers
Place into a 350 degree oven and bake for about 30 minutes until the top is as golden as you think looks nice
Serve with more hot sauce and/or banana peppers/pepperonchinis
hallo. in the spirit of my sandwich post of yore i am asking you: what is your favorite and-or most reliable dinner to make and eat? this month i would like to learn at least one new recipe
bonus points awarded for good leftovers
if it's a depression meal that's understandable but not very helpful for my selfish dream of not eating depression meals
bonus points also awarded for a vegetable such as the noble brogoly 🥦

Everybody keeps saying that the MSG gives you headaches thing is a myth and yet whenever my dad eats something with added MSG or a dish that develops a bunch of it naturally he gets a massive migraine. A lot of Asian cooking and especially restaraunts adds bouillon powder to stuff and he just can’t eat that because it makes his head feel like it’s gonna explode.
That’s how it is with a lot of stuff with migraines I think. Everyone’s like nah it’s a myth that gives you migraines even though that thing does in fact give you migraines.
Like I’ve heard people go pfft stevia is a natural sweetener it can’t give you headaches and yet like clockwork every time I get a mystery migraine after eating something new I ask around about sweetners and like clockwork it’s the stevia. “I thought you couldn’t have artificial sweeteners” yeah well I’ve gotta be ultra specific about that I guess.

America is absolutely disconnected to meat
I think I realized this when I had went to see my dad and stepmom one day and asked if I could place my hawk’s food. (A rabbit leg) in the freezer. My step mom was disgusted by the idea that a leg from an animal was in the freezer meanwhile an entire chicken was sitting in the fridge.
Your rotisserie chicken is an entire chicken.
Your pork chop is a hunk of pig.
Your rack of ribs are from a cow’s rib cage.
It’s like Americans view meat as colorful red and pink hued shapes that just exist and come into the world packaged.
You see so many people getting harassed or even having their content flagged for showing how to process or field dress meat when it’s at it’s freshest. Right after culling. For some reason this is considered “gore” by many folks when in reality it’s no more different from plucking a processed chicken after cull.
You also notice that Americans have an idea of what’s normal meat and what isn’t normal meat and there’s racist undertones that I’ve noticed in a lot of these comments left on foreign cooking videos
You have people that claim a video of a man in a different country preparing something like this is “eating a dog.” Meanwhile this is roasted goat.
Tumblr media
You have people who’s only perception of an edible fish is in fillet or fish stick form and they call something like this nasty because “Eww there’s a head!” Yeah.. most animals have heads..
Tumblr media
Some of ya’ll need to realize what your meat looks like prior to processing and that it’s prepared in different ways. We also need to erase the stigma behind non traditional meats.

i mean this in the gentlest way possible: you need to eat vegetables. you need to become comfortable with doing so. i do not care if you are a picky eater because of autism (hi, i used to be this person!), you need to find at least some vegetables you can eat. find a different way to prepare them. chances are you would like a vegetable you hate if you prepared it in a stew or roasted it with seasoning or included it as an ingredient in a recipe. just. please start eating better. potatoes and corn are not sufficient vegetables for a healthy diet.
