okok i know this is about the traditional leather harnesses but i actually don't like those and i started thinking about mickey practicing shibari self-ties so he could surprise ian. but there is already a fic with your exact concept!!

mickey's got on a baggy jacket to camouflage what's underneath. ian thinks hes just having a bad dysphoria day, entirely unaware of mickey's true intentions. he's paying no mind when he catches a flash of something purple from the corner of his eye. and that's when he looks over and sees it, sees him.

mickey was angled away from the bartender serving a crowd that had just walked in, hoodie partially unzipped for ian's eyes only. deep violet rope weaved across his chest, knots meeting in a diamond pattern down to his waist. his barely-there scars were covered by a part of the harness which bordered and accentuated his pecs.

ian grabs him hard on the bicep, drags mick a few inches closer to him. "what the fuck do you think youre doing?"

mickey shrugs, and ian wants to smack the smug look clean off his face. "waiting for your coworkers at the bar. told you man, could've spent our friday night doing something a lot more productive." he takes a hefty swig of ian's mocktail. what the fuck, that shit was $10. drink your own beer, asshole!

ian hears his name called from the bar entrance. he rushes to zip up mickey's jacket - he knows damn well his lover doesnt care about being seen in such a state by his coworkers - and hisses in his ear before gesturing to the group of ems workers.

"we'll finish this conversation at home."

he only lasts 45 grueling minutes of mick's hand gripping his thigh before feigning illness and rushing home to give mickey a piece of his mind.

today i am thinking about trans!mick letting franny paint his nails and put costume makeup on him. she only knows him as male, and she's so young and doesn't understand gender anyway, let alone dysphoria. the first few times it happened, ian saw the hesitation in mickey, so he jumped in and volunteered to be franny's makeup model. and everyone loves it! ian is so silly and soft and great with kids and franny loves playing with him... but mickey just felt weird about the whole situation. not counting Mexico, he hadn't worn makeup since he let Mandy play with him when they were young, barely starting puberty and not yet fully aware of his identity.

he was scared. he was scared of makeup. and the ian that lived in his brain was saying "it's okay to be scared!! you can't control what triggers your dysphoria!! you're allowed to be uncomfortable!!" and yet... part of him felt it was all so ridiculous. he's scared of, of what? some dyes and paint? who gives a shit? wearing makeup wouldn't make him less of a man, so why does he still feel that way? ian does it, and nobody misgenders him or calls him less manly for playing with his niece. he's safe. he's safe here, with his chosen family who haven't given him shit for his identity in over a decade - and even then it was from ignorance rather than malice. if he wants to play dress-up and makeup artist and tea party with his niece, that's just as valid as playing liquor store robbery. he can do both. he can afford to be both now.

so he lets franny paint his fingers and toes; blue, because she said it matches his eyes. and he tries to sit still while she applies purple eyeshadow and red blush and sparkly pink gloss. it tastes like bubblegum, like the Lipsmacker he stole from mandy's room in 4th grade. and he may need ian to buy nail polish remover from CVS in a couple days, when the aching in his gut creeps in again. but for now, he can definitely let franny play and treat him just like she would any other uncle.

mickey pretending to be a woman to cross the border is genius. easily the best option he had to escape the feds, given how high profile his prison escape was + abandoning damon left him wide open for damon to tell the cops mickeys escape plan. especially if he was pre-top surgery and/or got all his legal documents changed to male before going to prison, like in the fic

i definitely think he would feel temporarily dysphoric, but he saw dressing that way as a means to an end. he may have even found it a bit funny - he spent his entire life running away from womanhood and now here he is, voluntarily passing as a woman for the very first time. if ian has got across the border with them, they wouldve had a great laugh about it and ian wouldve said flirty comment about how well mickey pulls off wearing a dress. without ian, though, i think he felt a little sick. sitting in the car alone, in total silence, driving aimlessly through the desert until he felt he was far away enough from the border. finding a shitty motel without a/c and standing in front of the mirror for just a second longer than usual, ripping off the sweaty layers of clothes like hes peeling away his epidermis, exposing a festering wound hidden underneath
