Nu: Carnival Impressions Update
My first impressions here
Now that I’ve played the game for a few months, let’s talk about what’s changed.
TW: r18, I don’t mention anything too explicit but it’s a sex game.
Last I posted, I said that it was a run-of-the-mill eroge game. I do want to correct myself on that a little, since I think there are a few things that make it different.
For one, it’s refreshing to see a BL eroge protag actually be proud about being horny and liking men. Maybe it’s because I’ve read and played a few too many, but a lot of the games and manga I remember have the protagonist be hesitant, shy, forced, etc. It’s nice to have Eiden go “Yeah I’m horny and I like guys, nothing wrong with that”, no beating around the bush there.
There’s also one character who’s written with traits you would normally associate with a bottom, but he tops? Hey, messing with dynamics is always fun, especially in a genre that sticks to those tropes a lot.
The game is also surprisingly funny, I genuinely didn’t expect to laugh as much as I did. I think the game developers have a nice sense of humor, and it’s pretty obvious that some parts of the lore are not handled the most seriously. Which is okay, in my opinion. Sometimes a “fuck or die” situation doesn’t need to have an elaborate explanation, and that’s fine. If anything, I think poking fun at it is kinda funny in of itself.
The skins and events are also interesting, my favorite are the White Day ones. I still think the gameplay could be improved, but it’s a mobile game. If I'm being honest, most gacha games tend to have meh gameplay. Which, now that I mention it, kind of sucks how the explicit scenes in the main story require the 5 stars(current rarest rating) to unlock. Also some of the permanent 5 stars have explicit scenes that are just a rehash of the main story ones but with like a few differences? Not the biggest fan of that. I know you’re here to milk all our money but be a little less obvious about it, will you?
Overall, it’s actually better than I expected. I think I would be willing to play this game a little more, but...Well, I don’t typically recommend r18 games, so play at your own risk? It’s definitely more palatable than some if you want to try out an eroge game.

Mieruko-chan
I mentioned in my last post that I was looking for Mieruko-chan. I actually heard about it a while back, but I didn’t get around to checking it out until...maybe last summer? Anyways, I found it interesting, and now we’re doing a review!
TW: ghosts, death, demons
General: One day Miko wakes up and suddenly she can see supernatural creatures that the people around her can’t see! But instead of becoming a cool sorcerer or exorcist, she decides to pretend it’s fine and carry on as if she doesn’t see them, but this lead to some pretty wacky hijinks.
Story: A pretty interesting premise! I don’t actually think I’ve seen a supernatural manga protag just decides to...not. It’s made funnier when there are other people with spiritual capabilities(albeit they can’t see it as clearly as her in some cases) who actually try to deal with the ghosts, but then they see Miko just trying to be some dude. Instead of driving the story by seeking out ghosts, Miko is driving the story by trying to avoid/stop seeing them.
Visuals: Hm...I don’t know how to describe this, but the artstyle reminds me of older anime, with how the eyes and faces are drawn. It’s a very charming artstyle, which makes the contrast of how the ghosts are drawn that much more stark. Speaking of, the ghosts.  Image below.
Tumblr media
That’s just one of them. Boy, are they drawn in such a creepy but intriguing manner! You could probably show me a picture of them without context and tell me that it’s fanart of a Junji Ito monster, and I might even believe you. I don’t know what the mangaka is doing but holy heck are they good at freaking you out with designs. Some of the ghosts show how they died, which is also depicted horrifyingly. Overall very good in both cuteness and horror.
(Romantic) Relationships: I’m pretty sure this manga isn’t marked as shoujo ai or yuri, but Miko and her friend Hana have a fair bit of tease. They’re seen to be really close and care about each other, and a lot of the early chapters are them hanging out while Miko tries to ignore the ghosts. Later on, Miko also prays to get rid of a ghost following Hana(which ends up getting her into a contract with consequences) and even sacrifices a protection charm so that a ghost(pictured above) doesn’t drain Hana’s life force. In fact, there’s quite a few chapters where Miko puts herself in danger with the supernatural to protect Hana instead of continuing to ignore them. Later on, we also meet Michiru, who...I’m not sure she’s human, since she has some tentacle head thing going on when we see through Miko’s POV. But she takes quite an attachment to Miko and even enters her house at night to leave a pudding cup. Looks like it’s a yandere thing, but again, I’m not sure if she’s human, so we’ll see how it ends up panning out.
Overall: I like this manga a lot, and I actually recommend both the manga and anime, since the voice acting really adds another layer of “scared shitless”. It’s got cute, it’s got scary, and it has a few heartfelt moments that I don’t wanna spoil. All I will say is that it did make me a little misty eyed. If you’re easily scared, I wouldn’t read this at night. Otherwise, it’s worth checking out!

Liar Satsuki Can See Death
binAn interesting horror manga that I ran across while trying to find Mieruko! I ended up giving it a read and it’s actually kind of interesting, so let’s get into it!
TW: death, discussions of blood, gore, corpses
General: Main character Satsuki sees bodies 24 hours before they actually die, and she does her best to prevent these deaths. Unfortunately, she can’t lie for shit, so when she warns someone they don’t believe her, and she’s got a reputation for lying to people that they’ll die, because they never end up dying thanks to the work she puts in to prevent it. The first person we see her save is Komachi, and she gets a bunch of other friends this way too.
Story: I think the story is alright, there are some interesting bits and occasionally they’ll pull off some Detective Conan stuff with corpse analysis and stuff like that. It does show a little in the early chapters that the author wasn’t 100% sure where to go with the story and some details feel a little weird(I think Satsuki would be the type of person to know Not to throw water on an oil fire), but it’s still a nice read!
Visuals: The art style is rather nice to look at, I like how the author does the eyes and hair. Actually, I went and read their previous work, Shi Ni Aruki, because I heard that it was also horror related, and it was actually quite an improvement! Overall pretty nice, and the corpses and environments are also drawn with a lot of detail.
(Romantic) Relationships: Liar Satsuki isn’t explicitly a yuri manga, but there’s quite a bit of teasing(Edit: actually I went back and checked, it Is tagged as shoujo ai). Komachi is the first one saved and while she doesn’t really get what Satsuki’s doing, she’ll support her anyways(even though the way she supports may not always be what Satsuki actually wants...). Yeah, Komachi has hints of being a little weird, to say the least. Akira is a brasher partner in crime, who actually befriends her after Satsuki discovers her plan to kill her dad, and they don’t see eye to eye on whether or not Satsuki has to save every corpse, but they care about each other and work together in the end. Those are the main two relationships, although as of recent chapters we also have Sae and Miho, class rep and gossip girl respectively. Those two aren’t really pushed in the same way, but I do like the overall dynamic of the cast. they play off each other well and it’s nice to see different moralities being brought together.
Overall: I don’t have much to say since the manga itself doesn’t have a ton of material, but it’s nice to read and come back to every once in a while! I personally read it when I’m waiting outside class. I also just personally enjoy a little murder mystery now and then, and it’s fun to try and guess at how the death will actually happen, as well as how they’ll stop it. For this one, you can binge/speedread this, but I recommend trying to pick up details to figure out the puzzle, since it’s a little more fun that way.

The Bones Of An Invisible Person-Review
The original story ended around three years ago, but it actually updated with an extra chapter this year! It's got some...uh...interesting additions, so it's within my realm of reviews!
Spoilers ahead!
General: Starts off with the protagonist, Aya, and her abusive father treating their family like shit. Somehow she gets the power to turn invisible after wishing she wasn't here and she uses it to kill her dad. After that she goes to high school and meets two notable people, her neighbor Kana and her Senpai. Yada yada invisible stuff, yada yada she turns herself in.
Extra chapter: Now what really caught me off guard was the extra yuri chapter. The girls are pretty close throughout the main story, especially Aya and Senpai. A romantic relationship being drawn between the characters wouldn't have been out of the norm, since these were relationships that could have been romantic in nature.
And then we got the extra chapter.
It's...a little bare bones. Okay, pun over. There's not too much dialogue, the scenes are pretty empty, and sound effects and details are pretty tame across the board. Aya and Senpai sleep together, eat dinner, shower, cue shower sex, then another round on the bed. If you were to read it on your own, it's honestly kind of boring.
But it does come attached to a main story, so let's take that into account.
Story: Begins a little abruptly; we're introduced to the characters, given plenty of reasons to hate Aya's dad, and we see her get powers and kill him...in the first chapter. A little fast, but the point of the story is how she builds a normal life for herself and why she decides to turn herself in. So in my opinion the setup is okay.
Kana and Senpai are the two characters that influence Aya the most over the course of the story. Kana is what Aya imagines to be ideal: she's a perfectly normal girl who does normal girl things, is nice, kind, pretty, that sort of stuff. Senpai is someone that understands Aya and even helps her look deeper inside herself; she's the one who points out that Aya is hesitant to get too close to Kana because she views her as the "light" and herself as the "darkness". Overall, the dynamics are pretty nice.
Aya eventually enjoys her normal life so much that she wants to stay, and it makes her invisibility power stop working. She only had it because she didn't want to be where she was, so now that she feels like she has a place to belong to, there's no need for her to turn invisible.
Eventually, Aya decides to turn herself in. It's a tough decision, but she feels that she needs to repent before she can properly be with Kana and Senpai. I'm kind of glossing over things here, but she basically turns herself in at the end of the story.
It's a pretty well written story that explores the psychology of a teenage girl who felt the need to take her abusive father's life and then experience happiness to the point that her own powers stopped working. There were a few points that actually made me cry a little bit, since it goes over feeling like there's no where you belong, or wanting to escape from your current situation. I know it's not too apparent or coherent in this review, but I actually do recommend checking this story out to see Aya's journey of experiencing a happy high school life.
Visuals: The art style is a little eye-catching, the hair is done in a "thin" manner and overall the character designs are simple. The backgrounds are pretty standard as well. The eyes are drawn in a particularly detailed way and there's a lot of emphasis on them, probably relating to how Aya can turn invisible. Over all the art in this is pretty good!
Overall: A short ~20 chapter story that plucks at your heartstrings a bit if you sit down and read it. I don't recommend speed reading this one, it's better to take your time and go over the pages slowly. It takes some sinking in for the moments to hit, and when they hit it does hit.

NU Carnival-Initial Impressions:
The new r+18 BL gacha that seems to be making the rounds lately! Seems pretty interesting, and it isn't available on the app store. Definitely draws some attention!
General overview: It's already pretty well known, but this game opens right away on a scene of the main protagonist getting a blowjob from an incubus and held from behind by a vampire. So if it wasn't clear already, very adult game.
You then get a flashback to how the protagonist got in that situation, yada yada magical gem, yada yada iseikai summoned, yada yada secretly someone important, yada yada must have sex. Pretty run of the mill so far.
From there you do a few battles and unlock the stories as you go.
Gameplay: As expected, it's pretty lackluster. Considering that it's an eroge gacha game, nothing too mindblowing. You basically roll for units and make a team, typical five element stuff, auto play exists if you don't want your brain to turn to mush.
However, if your units take too much damage, they have special sprites showing their clothes being ripped off. Not bad, although the clothes in this game leave little to the imagination.
Story: Pretty typical stuff, every character has their own little gimmick and dynamic to make you like them and want to roll for them. Again, nothing out of the ordinary there.
But, you have to roll the SSR unit to see their sex chapter. Honestly, in my opinion, if you want to see a sex scene so bad, just go on twitter and search the character up. You're bound to find someone who's dedicated their life into lewding them. Otherwise, just watch porn. Better use of your money.
Also, a personal nitpick, there's a lot of errors. Typos, misspelling, grammar, I don't know if they proofread it.
In my opinion, it's pretty tame. Maybe I just haven't gotten far enough in the story, but the scenes are a little lukewarm. Passable if you want to rub one out, I guess?
Visuals: Your typical pretty anime artstyle! I will admit that live2d scenes have gotten better with time, and Nu Carnival isn't too bad at using it!
I did catch clipping issues here and there, especially regarding the protagonist's necklace. Other than that, my only critique is that sometimes less is more. If you're getting bombarded with bare chests all day, it becomes less impactful.
Characters: As mentioned above, characters are pretty par the cour for the genre. A few little unique quirks to make people like them and a gem to give the excuse for a sex scene.
Although, there is an "intimacy" function. You can use items to advance your intimacy with a certain character and unlock other scenes. Again, nothing new, but it is interesting that intimacy items are unique to each character.
Overall thoughts: Yep. Run of the mill eroge gacha game with a side of forcing you to roll to get the scene you want. Honestly I can understand why people are playing, the characters are attractive enough. But there isn't too much to make it stick out from the millions of smutty gacha games, so I can't really say I recommend it too much. Again, I haven't been playing for too long, so maybe that'll change in a few weeks!
