Wish there was more to do with magic in Wings of Fire, and I don't just mean animus magic. Like, just that the world works because of magic. I see people point out all the time that the dragons don't physically make sense or that evolution and such is scientifically impossible, the answer to that... magic. Dragons all can fly because of magic. Firebreath, gills, firescales, flamesilk, leafspeak, color-changing scales. magic! Like in My Little Pony where the pegasi can only fly because of magic, the earth ponies have a magical connection to the land. Things that are basic things are still a form of magic. Really like that idea.

Lifehealer the Night/Beetle hybrid (inspired by the ShimmerWing fantribe by @axilarycobra )
(I'm more inclined to call Lifehealer a Night/Beetle hybrid because I feel she isn't an accurate representation of a ShimmerWing, but... idk.)
Even though it's not stated to be part of the fantribe, I can't help but imagine some ShimmerWings are born with a special type of silk called MoonGlow. MoonGlow silk accelerates the healing process of any wound it touches, and can even help give dragons who've been envenomated by Dragonbite Vipers a better chance at survival. Although after awhile it's healing properties will fade, and the silk will become dull, so it has to be replaced by fresh MoonGlow silk.

[Wings of Fire] The Forgotten Pantalan Tribes
Hello, back with some original WoF universe work. I haven't gotten too much into this because recently, I've been focusing on a lot of historical headcanons (history of the tribes, holidays, queens, stuff I'll probably post later).
A quick summary, in my little WoF universe, Pantala used to be home to the GrassWings and the BugWings. The GrassWings eventually evolved into the LeafWings after they were forced to leave Pantala and settled in the Rainforest Kingdom on Pantala. The BugWings split into the SilkWings, HiveWings, and NymphWings while still on Pantala, and the SilkWings and HiveWings fled from Pantala with the GrassWings. The NymphWings never left Pantala. On Pyrrhia, the HiveWings and SilkWings merged back into one tribe due to their proximity to one another in the Rainforest Kingdom, creating the BeetleWings.
The BeetleWings and LeafWings, along with some RainWings and SeaWings (although this will never have an impact on anything as they aren't involved in any new tribes being created) left Pyrrhia for Pantala after the outbreak of the boil virus (which I mentioned in my previous post).
This is a quick overview of just a general timeline of the history of the Pantalan tribes so I can get into the forgotten tribes. These are all fantribes that exist in my personal little WoF AU world, I'm not necessarily into fantribes that much as a community thing, especially since these aren't the most original. Most of these tribes are based on the environment around them.
BeetleWings
Description: sleek, agile bodies similar to that of a modern-day SilkWing; scales that could be any color under the sun but were usually bright and colorful; small, sharp claws for gripping bark; antennae; translucent, shimmering wings like those of a HiveWing; stinger on the tip of their tail
Abilities: can spin silk from glands on their wrist; sense vibrations with their antennae; can sting enemies with a paralyzing toxin from the stinger of their tail; can shoot a deadly acid from their fangs
Queen: Queen Swallowtail
~
Contrary to popular belief, the BeetleWings didn't go completely extinct. When Clearsight came over to Pantala, she reintroduced a gene that came from the ancient HiveWing tribe, jumpstarting the separation of the BeetleWings back into the SilkWings and HiveWings after they were reintroduced to their previous home.
Back during that time, the BeetleWings covered all of the continent, so the influence of Clearsight's genetics didn't spread very fast. When Clearsight was on her deathbed, she left a final prophecy to one of her granddragonets. The prophecy was a warning to the queen of the BeetleWings that a terrible genocide was going to happen. With the warning, the BeetleWings put in a plan they called the Removal Plan. They moved out of their cities and hid in a secret home on the smaller wing of Pantala.
The tribe remained there for thousands of years, their existence completely known to the SilkWings, HiveWings, and LeafWings.
ShimmerWings
Description: sparkly, colorful scales that can be any color under the sun but usually are darker; small sparkles all over the body; four brightly colored moth-like wings with scattered silver star patterns on the undersides and brightly colored star patterns on the overside; antennae; small claws
Abilities: can spin sparkly, colorful silk from glands on their wrists; sense vibrations with their antennae; can breathe a burst of sparkly fire called sparkbreath; night vision
Queen: Queen Nireus
~
The ShimmerWings were the early descendants of Clearsight. They were a lot like the BeetleWings, but with some traits that were from the NightWing tribe. This was a small tribe that didn't exist for very long as it eventually became outnumbered by other breakoff tribes from Clearsight, most notably the HiveWings who would eventually become a dominant tribe on the continent. Similarly to the BeetleWings, the ShimmerWings aren't completely extinct. Along with the BeetleWings, they found refuge on the small wing of Pantala, their existence unknown to the dominant Pantalan tribes.
PeakWings
Description: bulky, thick-armored scales the color of mountain rocks; curved, sharp claws with padded talons to grip rock; four horns, two that curve upward and two that curve downward; long, thick, prehensile tail twice the size of the rest of their body with a stinger on the end; large, segmented wings; long, thick antennae
Abilities: extremely powerful grip and strength; excellent night vision; deadly venom in tail stinger and claws; fast and agile on the ground and in tunnels; almost unbreakable scales; can sense vibrations with antennae and cling to walls, can spin a thick silk
Queen: Queen Denali
~
The PeakWings were created when some BeetleWings moved to live in the mountains of the upper Pantalan wing. The BeetleWings originally didn't inhabit this area because of the difficult, mountainous terrain that disadvantaged them. After thousands of years, this group of BeetleWings evolved into a new tribe adapted to living in the mountains. The PeakWings continue to live in the mountains, their existence unknown to the dominant Pantalan tribes.
NymphWings
Description: hatched underwater with six legs and no wings; live underwater until they turn six when they come to the surface and molt, coming out with two pairs of wings and four legs; long and skinny with short horns and long antennae; small, sharp claws; three long, skinny tails; usually darker colors such as black, gray, brown, green, blue, orange, or red
Abilities: before molting, they can breathe underwater through white hairs that work as gills; agile swimmers and flyers; venomous fangs; can sense vibrations and communicate through antennae; can produce silk from glands on their wrists
Queen: Queen Caddisfly
~
The NymphWings have existed for a long time, but their existence had been forgotten when the GrassWings, HiveWings, and SilkWings moved to Pyrrhia. This tribe resides along the southern coast of Pantala. Before they molt, NymphWing dragonets live in the ocean under Dragontail Peninsula or behind the spines of Pantala. After they molt and leave the water, they reside in the area between Cicada and Mantis Hive, or the area between Mantis Hive and Lake Scorpion.
With this area now occupied by the LeafSilk Kingdom, the tribe will likely be rediscovered by the SilkWings and LeafWings; however, the friendly NymphWings will most likely not have problems with this and instead be welcomed into the kingdom.

[Wings of Fire] The Root and Boil Viruses
Hey, I've been seeing a lot of my little pony infection au stuff all over the place and a while ago, I decided to make a version for Wings of Fire. I haven't gotten too much into the details of it yet, but I have the two viruses involved (one Pantalan and the other Pyrrhian).
I haven't seen too many Wings of Fire infection au stuff but I would like to say that this is not at all inspired by any that may exist. I was only inspired by the my little pony versions I've seen, which, being in a whole different universe, this is a lot different from.
I'm mainly just going to get into the viruses here since that's pretty much all I have so far.
Warning: there are no images, and I don't think my descriptions are too gory, but I'll get into describing some awful physical symptoms of these viruses so if that is something you think would not be great for you, don't read this.
This all takes place shortly after arc 3 (within a year, 5,012 AS).
Root virus
Root virus first appeared on Pantala following the creation of the LeafSilk Kingdom. Although originating from Pantala, this virus would later spread to Pyrrhia unknowingly. Little is known about this virus. It is believed to have come from an unknown plant that used to reside in the Poison Jungle, but was destroyed after the jungle was burnt. It is still unknown how the virus spread to dragons.
Dragons with root virus develop a green film over their eyes that limits their vision and causes their eyes to feel like they're burning. Additionally, thin white roots grow within their body, mainly the lungs, stomach, and throats. These roots continue to grow until they have exited the body and reached sunlight where they can photosynthesize. At this point, most dragons have died simply from the pain. After this point, the roots reach the brain and take full control of the dragon they have infected. If a dragon survives to this point, their consciousness will stay intact, but they lose control of their body. This virus spreads by the roots releasing small, hair-like seeds that travel through the air and land in another dragon's lungs.
This virus is extremely dangerous due to how easily it spreads and how undetectable it can be. Despite obvious late-stage symptoms, dragons can have this disease for weeks without showing any signs, and may not even know they are infected until it is too late to take action.
There is no cure for the virus as soon as the roots have been planted in the body and have begun to grow. The only known way to get rid of the virus is to catch it right before the seed enters the body and before the roots begin to grow. These seeds can be killed by scorching temperatures, which can often be dangerous, but at least often keep the dragon alive, even if they sustain permanent burns.
Boil virus
Boil virus is the Pyrrhian alternative to root virus. The origins of boil virus are unknown, but records show that the deadly virus has been around since ancient Pyrrhia times, but frequently vanished for periods of a thousand years. The last known occurrence of boil virus before 5,012 AS was in 2,378 AS, which was responsible for wiping out a whole tribe and causing the BeetleWings, LeafWings, and some RainWings and SeaWings to leave for Pantala.
Boil virus is more prevalent in places with high humidities, such as the Rainforest Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Sea. The virus develops first as large, red boils around the neck, underbelly, arms, or legs of a dragon. These boils can grow to large sizes and are often painful. When a boil has become full, they turn white and feel as if they are going to pop. At this point, smaller boils begin to form inside the dragon's mouth, throat, and lungs, causing uncomfortableness at first, before evolving into pain. Eventually, these boils will burst, killing the dragon.
There is no known cure for this virus and dragons often have it before symptoms appear. It is believed that the boil virus is spread by blood contact, an infected bite, or some kind of parasite.
History
I have a little bit of a story started, so I'll share what I have so far.
Both viruses were first witnessed in 5,012 AS on their respective continents. Cases of the root virus first appeared among members of the LeafWing tribe who had spent time clearing out the northeastern part of the Poison Jungle following the burning. These LeafWings were quarantined in a medical facility in the LeafSilk Kingdom where Pantala's best doctors, including several HiveWings, studied the virus. At this time, there were only three infected LeafWings, with no infected SilkWings or HiveWings. The LeafWings who were infected were Odollam, Byblis, and Wolfsbane.
On Pyrrhia, doctors began to get cases of a strange mystery virus that had been infecting dragons. The first case was in Possibility, from a SkyWing named Topaz. Topaz was kept in a medical center and seen by both Mayfly and Typhoon. When the boil virus was identified, Topaz was moved to be quarantined in a more professional medical center in the Kingdom of Sand. Mayfly and Typhoon both reached out to dragons all over the continent, looking for others who had encountered the virus, and several doctors communicated back that they had. With the news that the boil virus had resurfaced, Pyrrhian doctors called for a summit to happen between all of the queens to figure out the best course of action.
The summit took place three weeks later in Sanctuary where Queen Moorhen, Queen Thorn, Queen Ruby, Queen Coral, Queen Glory, Queen Snowfall, and delegates Fierceteeth, Winter, Flame, Tsunami, Starflight, Turtle, and Moonwatcher met. The medical professionals, Mayfly, Typhoon, Bullfrog, and several others gave a presentation to the queens and their delegates about the dangers of this virus. They proposed that the kingdoms should limit travel, trade, and other activities that could spread the virus. At that time, the virus had only been appearing in concentrated areas, the known cases being from Possibility, the RainWing village, outer villages of the Kingdom of the Sea, and a northern Sky Kingdom village. These settlements were put on lockdown and dragons were forced to stay in their own homes.
The queens enacted a quarantine protocol, keeping their kingdom borders closed and closely monitoring everything and everyone who enters and leaves the kingdoms. Additionally, the queens started to have their subjects tested for the virus and take medication as a precaution to kill any possible virus that may have infected them. Along with the kingdoms, settlements were put on lockdown too, most notably, Possibility, Sanctuary, all of the IceWing villages, the RainWing and NightWing villages, Renewal, and Jade Mountain Academy.
This is all I have as of right now for this AU. I'm going to work on it more in the future, but it's still in its baby phase.

lots of people call Darkstalker's end hypocritical, but I like to think of it as poetic. He changed dragons all around him, even dragons he was supposed to have loved and respected, just because he didn't like them the way they were and because they didn't fit into this "perfect world" of his. Then, when he is tricked by the last dragon alive that he loved who also loved him, he is subjected to a fate he had and would have bestowed on dragons all around him. He begs in his final moments for any remnant of his past self to stay, but no one listens, the same way he never listened to the concerns and feelings of the dragons he manipulated around him. Sure it may be hypocritical to one of the arc's themes, but he was never going to listen. It wasn't until his final moments that he finally understood how it felt for all those dragons he hurt around him when he didn't listen, and he felt just as powerless as they did.

Feel free to keep doing this/do this whenever. I love talking about Wings of Fire but I don't always know what to say on my own.
I'm so bored guys PLEASE ask me anything about Wings of Fire. Opinions, headcanons, anything I literally need something to do right now and I feel like writing about Wings of Fire but I don't have a specific topic at hand.

[Wings of Fire] The Ancient Tribes
I've been working recently on developing some lore in my WoF headcanon world. One thing I've been working more on is the evolution of the tribes. One thing I should say before I get into it is that this evolution is not completely accurate. Evolution takes a long time and there just isn't enough time in the series for any of my headcanons to realistically happen, but what's the fun in that. So yes this is not completely scientifically accurate, but I don't care.
I have the tribes' evolution divided into eras or periods. The first one is the ancient tribes, the period of dragons thousands of years before the Scorching and just after. There are three of these tribes.
The AncientWings
The AncientWings were the first dragon tribe to inhabit Pyrrhia. Despite being called a tribe, the AncientWings consisted of a variety of dragons that had different appearances and abilities. Some lived in the mountains and had black scales, some lived in ocean trenches and had dark blue scales, some lived on arctic islands and had ice-blue scales. Even dragons who lived in the same environment had different physical traits and abilities. The only thing in common that all the dragons had were their general size and their bat-shaped wings.
These dragons were unorganized and often lived isolated from each other. Sometimes they would have conflict with each other over treasure as trade was rare. There were not as many dragons back then as there are in modern Pyrrhia. There was a low carrying capacity for the species and due to the solitary behaviors of the dragons, the population didn't grow quickly.
It wasn't until the Scorching that the dragons became united and started to organize themselves. After a single dragon united the AncientWings against the scavengers, she was made the queen of the dragons, and the dragons came together to form closer societies which would be the key to evolution occurring in Pyrrhia.
After the AncientWings started to settle in designated cities, the changes in traits and abilities began. The AncientWings ultimately split into two tribes, the DryWings and the WetWings. I'll get into these tribes in the next evolution period post.
The GrassWings
The GrassWings were one of the two tribes on Pantala. Back before the Scorching, northern Pantala was covered in a tall grassland which was perfect for the GrassWings who would lurk in the tall blades, their green scales allowing them to blend in. Their scales came in shades of green, yellow, brown, or orange to match the different species of grass across the continent. They were sleek, with curvy green or brown horns and grass-like blades on their tail and back. They were rumored to have absorbed energy from the sun and had extensive gardens. Along with that, they could communicate with the other dragons of their species by releasing chemicals that could send warnings to one another.
The tribe was more organized than the AncientWings. They were led by a general who could be any gender and from any family. The generals were often chosen by the general who preceded them.
The GrassWings were relatively peaceful. Although they were aware of the other tribe on the continent, the two rarely interacted and stayed on their side of the continent. Unlike Pyrrhia, Pantala was home to large predators which posed a threat to the Pantalan tribes and kept the tribes busy enough fighting for their lives to establish more complex governments. The GrassWings were also quite solitary, keeping to small family units most of their life.
The GrassWings were one of the longest-existing tribes on the planet. They lived comfortably in their grasslands. It wasn't until the GrassWings had to flee Pantala for Pyrrhia that the GrassWings were introduced to genetics that would alter the tribe. We won't get back to the GrassWings for a little because of how long they existed as a tribe.
The BugWings
The BugWings were the other tribe that resided on Pantala. They had four bug-like wings and scales of any color, but typically darker ones. They had antennae and a stinger on the end of their tail that could paralyze their target. They lived in the young forests of Sothern Pantala where they clung to the sides of trees. They were ruled by a queen and their system of government was primarily hereditary.
The BugWings were a peaceful tribe. They all worked together to help one another and were one of the first tribes to establish a trade and barter system. They lived together in an established settlement where the queen of the tribe led and helped her subjects.
While still on Pantala, the BugWings split into three different tribes; the SilkWings, HiveWings, and NymphWings. Although in modern times it is believed that the SilkWings and HiveWings were a result of Clearsight, these tribes existed thousands of years before the NightWing came to Pantala. The BugWings split into these three different tribes due to the isolation of groups of BugWings living in different regions of Southern Pantala. It is unknown why they split off and refused to recontact one another, but the results were three genetically different tribes which I'll get into in a later evolution period post.

I鈥檓 trying to make a love story base on wings of fire but I鈥檓 struggling to find information to make the love story.馃
1- there鈥檚 a female ice wing who is not like her fellow ice wings she is affectionate and caring.
There鈥檚 a silk wing who is born with sharp teeth and long claws who was a born captive of the hive wings who doesn鈥檛 know much of the outside world but full of doubts because his species is viewed as weak.
Could these two species fall in love?
2-they marry but what would a marriage look like for an ice wing who鈥檚 not royalty and nobody to oversee the marriage?
3- would hive wings be after them or could she have bought him out of his situation?
4-which tribe would they go to for safety if discovered because we see tribes strength but nobody tells what tribe would take in dragons who are needing rest or help?
5-what are the burial practices of the two species and other tribes?
6-what tribe would help the lover get back on their feet and help them gain confidence and help raise their children?
I would say it depends on the time period. If it takes place before the 3rd arc, there would be no realistic way the two dragons could meet because neither of their tribes could cross the sea without the map by Clearsight. If it is after or during the second half of the 3rd arc, I would say it's possible since the tribes are now going between continents. Besides for the time, just in general as dragons, I think it is possible for these two dragons to fall in love. They are both odd in their tribe, but their tribes are almost the opposite of each other so they can teach each other a lot.
There are no specifics on marriage for the IceWings, and for the SilkWings, Wasp or her sisters pair them up. This is another thing where it comes down to when this story would take place. If it was after the 3rd arc, then there's no system now for SilkWing marriage. I would say that there doesn't need to be any type of overseeing to their marriage. I feel like in this world, dragons just choose to marry each other and it's a title they take on rather than there having to be a huge legal process to it.
If the SilkWing ran away from the Hives, I doubt the HiveWings would chase him all the way to Pyrrhia since they would just assume that he died trying to get there. This one likely depends on if he has any kind of value to the HiveWings and how the two dragons tried to be together.
I would say that the RainWings would likely bring them in if they are just looking for safety.
The only tribe with known burial practices are the SkyWings who cover the bodies with white silk and leave them on high peaks so they can come back as SkyWings.
I would also say the RainWings for this one.

[Spoilers] WoF Guide book opinions
I recently got the guide and I wanted to share what I thought of it. Honestly, not really meant to be a post explaining in-depth details about what was in the guide, but yeah, this post will contain spoilers for the guide if you haven't read it yet. I'm going to go through it in chapters.
MudWings
I actually really liked the stuff we got in this chapter. It was sort of ruined because everything in it was spoiled or leaked before I got it, the only thing I had not seen yet as of reading that chapter was 2 pages, but I still really like the characters introduced and how it expanded on characters we already know.
SeaWings
This chapter was nice. Not my favorite, but I wouldn't say it was bad. Kind of wish there was more new information since there was a whole part just about Coral recapping the war of SandWing succession. I would have much rather have learned about some kind of folklore or something instead. I think the inclusion of letters between Albatross and Lagoon was cool but it really didn't give us any cool new information, instead just showed how their relationship was like. The Turtle and Anemone parts were fine. The chapter overwhelmingly featured royal SeaWing things when really, learning about some non royal SeaWing stuff would have been so much better because we have really only seen royal SeaWings this whole series.
RainWings
I would say I enjoyed this chapter. I wasn't really into the Kinkajou story but I get its importance in the series, but it felt like an excuse to get to write something from Kinkajou's perspective for once. The Dangers of the Rainforest things was honestly not really insightful. I would have much rather had something about RainWing potions which have been mentioned in other books, that sounds interesting while the Dangers of the Rainforest is really just more about the Rainforest than RainWings. The thing about royal challenges was interesting and included some cool history, it was also interesting to learn about a few other possible challenges that can happen during these. I do like the information about how RainWings traditionally tell stories that are passed down through words rather than writing.
NightWings
This chapter was ok. I skimmed a lot of it. The Tales of the NightWings story was interesting and I like the conversation between Starflight and Fatespeaker that took place after it. The guide to NightWing powers felt pretty unnecessary. I get that this is supposed to represent a real guide that would exist in the series, but I also feel like there should have been more of a priority to give us new information rather than give us information we have been told many times before. The Mastermind interview was way longer than it needed to be, but I did like the history we got about the NightWings developing language and medicine. Fierceteeth's letters was really interesting and seeing some character development in her was really nice
SandWings
Honestly, probably my least favorite section. The wanted treasure poster was cool but then we get thrown into stuff we've already been told. There really is not a lot of new information we learn in this chapter which sucks because I would have loved some SandWing history from Jerboa times or something about the Sorpion Den being founded. There was no reason why most of the chapter had to be focused on Smolder's scavenger journal.
IceWings
Honestly, very cool chapter imo. It also just looked really pretty. Mink's application was pretty long and tbh didn't really add anything to anything. Also, I thought we would get to learn about some new animus gifts but it just restated old gifts we had already learned about without expanding on the information. Literally just exactly what is on the wof wiki plus a tiny little bit of information about Diamond as a dragonet. The feast thing was cool, I never realized how interesting information about food could be but I found myself interested in it. I did really like the Caribou story and that whole history, that's kind of what I wanted more of in the animus gift guide: putting names to animi to their enchantments.
SkyWings
I'd say this chapter was interesting. Although most of the Scarlet kill list was stuff we already know, it's interesting that Tui created a whole new character to put on there with no context as to who they are. I wonder if she wants to do something with this character. I also found the letter from Queen Carmine to Queen Pearl interesting. We got to see a bit of how the massacre was explained to the SkyWings and Queen Carmine's personality. The Tailwind story was interesting, especially near the end parts. It really did explain quite a bit about SkyWing traditions (well, the traditions before they were taken away by Scarlet). I never guessed that Canyon would just be the male version of Scarlet and the reason she had him killed was because he was too obsessed with himself when Scarlet had to make sure she was the dragon most obsessed with herself instead.
SilkWings
This chapter was alright. I enjoyed the information about the SilkWing curriculum and professions back when they were in the Hives. This chapter, and all of the Pantalan chapters, never addressed the LeafSilk Kingdom or the SilkWing Assembly. It is as if that never happened and they were still living in the Hives. I like the history in Monarch's writing and thought that the part about her bringing cookies to the queen meetings was really cute. Aside from that, there was no BeetleWing info which I was really looking forward to possibly seeing.
HiveWings
I did like a lot of information in this chapter. The Hive guides was cool since we really only got a focus on two of them during all of arc 3. The Legend of the Hive part was ok, really just information we already knew, but also interesting that some SeaWings also moved to Pantala with the BeetleWings, LeafWings, and some RainWings. The Book of Clearsight excerpts were also interesting, probably would have been more if they hadn't been leaked.
LeafWings
This chapter was really short. The guide to the Poison Jungle was alright. I did really like the books part. Learning about folklore within the series is what I was more looking forward to in this guide. Then there were the letters with Belladonna and Liden which were alright. But that's it, the whole chapter is 3 things.

I can't contain my anger when I see people blame Clearsight when she was literally the victim
Darkstalker will be racist, attempt to commit genocide, groom like 2 minors, repeatedly turn someone into his ex and erase her memories about it, abused his girlfriend and constantly lied and manipulated his supposed best friend but because he has daddy issues people will literally bend over backwards to explain why Clearsight is actually the shitty one in the relationship and poor poor Darkstalker is the worlds saddest fucking wet cat or wtv.

Real talk I judge people based on where they put Darkstalker on WoF character tier lists

Do you have any biology hcs for the silkwings? Their biology and anatomy confuse me and I want to hear other people's opinions on it
I actually have the whole evolutionary story behind the SilkWings and HiveWings. Time-wise, it is completely impossible but so is almost everything in the series since we only have a 5,000-year limit for organized society. Also pretty biologically impossible but literally this whole series is about dragons so idc.
(This one's gonna be a long answer)

I have had a hc for a while that SilkWings and HiveWings existed since before the BeetleWings. The ancient tribe-less dragons that would eventually go on to form these tribes required extra maneuverability for flying as they lived in the dense forests of Pantala which is why they had butterfly-like and dragonfly-like wings.
The SilkWings and HiveWings split from a tribe known as the BugWings, a tribe that had originally evolved on Pantala but migrated over to Pyrrhia for an unknown reason. They were able to find a home in the Rainforest Kingdom as their natural habitat consists of dense forests and humid temperatures. Since there were so many BugWings, they had to split up and live in different parts of the Rainforest Kingdom in order to fit. This divide would cause them to split into the SilkWings and HiveWings. They had different diets, behaviors, and physical needs, which would lead to physical differences between them.
After the SilkWings evolved into the tribe they were, they lived in the Rainforest Kingdom, close to the HiveWings. They were herbivores, unable to eat meat, and they could possess black scales unless the modern SilkWings. HiveWings were also herbivores at this point. HiveWings were mainly herbivores, just would eat some meat if they needed to, and they also possessed antennae, unlike their modern counterparts. It was also much rarer for HiveWings to have the deadly natural weapons that the modern HiveWings had. At most, HiveWings would have venomous teeth or a paralyzing stinger on their tail.
Eventually, through lots of breeding between the two tribes, they merged into a new tribe, the BeetleWings which had a mix of both tribe's biology. The BeetleWings along with the LeafWings then migrated back over to Pantala due to conflict between the tribes in Pyrrhia.
Lots of time went by after that before Clearsight showed up on the continent. Clearsight didn't create the HiveWings exactly, when she had dragonets with the BeetleWings, she reintroduced a strong gene that was closely linked to the HiveWings back when they lived in Pyrrhia. As more and more BeetleWings had children with these reintroduced HiveWings, the HiveWings began to reemerge, but they weren't like the HiveWings from before. They had a primary carnivore diet and deadlier natural weapons than they did before. They lost the antennae they previously had, however.
On the other hand, SilkWings were pretty similar to their original counterparts. They lost the ability to have black scales but remained herbivores and kept their silk-spinning abilities which the HiveWings lost when they re-evolved.

Anyway, I know that a lot of this doesn't make sense biologically, but also the series makes it hard for realistic biology to exist so I don't really think about that part. It's a fantasy world and who knows how science works there since we only got what we have on Earth to go off of.
