How long have you been doing art for, if you don't mind me asking? Honestly I'm impressed by your skills and such and as an artist that's kind of just starting out I'm wondering how long it'll take me to progress to your level. Ofc I know it can take less or longer for different ppl but I'm just curious is all. (And as a side question, how often do you do art studies?)
ive been drawing all my life but i only really got serious about art when i was 16, and im 23 now. heres an overview:
Tumblr media
and i do studies prolly once or twice a week when i cant come up with things to draw
not to be a sad sack, this is just my onion but thought i'd put it out there; its good to take a look at other artists progression if youre curious but you should make sure not to compare yourself too intensely, you'll get there when you get there and theres no real hurry. the internet likes to lie to you and tell you that skills are only impressive when theyre being performed by the young and that youre basically geriatric at 30

hi ive been a follower of you for a while! i remember i freaked out when you followed me back on homestuck amino lol. i really love your art and its just a big inspiration for me. sometimes when im in a funk or art block has me stupid ill just think of your art and scroll through it and get inspired again, so, thank you for that! if you dont mind me asking, what program and brushes do you use? and whats your coloring process? im curious because, i suck at coloring haha! love you!
Tumblr media
heres a quick little how-to.
my hot tip of the day is avoid the colour palette when you’re pickinganything thats not your base colour, it’ll make everything more harmonious. Instead, play around with the colour wheel and sliders, you’ll get a really good feel for how colours work
Tumblr media
(this is my palette btw in case anyone doesnt know what im talking about)
so yeah i use clip studio paint and a bunch of custom brushes that i have no idea how to share
cheers anon!

Bruh why are your colours so good?????
3 tips i use for my own colouring style (there are exceptions, u dont have to follow these)-keep major blocks of colour in similar saturation range-have one standout colour that compliments everything else (gold trim is a good example), this can be fully saturated-for darker colours in the palette shift things to the warmer side of the scale, for lighter things, err toward cooler tones

Do you have any tips on making art your job? I graduated with an art degree and then got laid off from my day job so I've decided I'm using this time to do what I want in life... but then the first time I sat at my computer I just stared at the screen like "now what"
at its simplest heres how i got to where i am, mileage may vary and its almost definitely not helpful >get popular off fanart (this takes a while. you need prolly 10k-20k followers before you make any money Full Stop) you dont even need to be a good artist but this is the point at which you should be really firing on all cylinders to improve and impress
>start peddling original work thats fun and exciting. helps to be a decent writer as well as artist. fanart usually is not a reliable moneymaker cause you can find it anywhere so its better to get ppl invested in your original work if you can (make your own niche babey!)
>get commissions. get commissions til you cant take more+ get a reputation as a reliable artist, if you do a good job and are chill and mostly polite its likely your clients will recommend you to their friends
>when you have too much work, make commissions patreon/ko-fi exclusive so you have passive income to support you if you cant work suddenly for whatever reason
rinse, repeat and find out what works for you till youre making stacks. good luck!

I love the way your colors look in your art! I know that you’ve talked about not using overly soft brushes before and you’ve also mentioned about shading with color; I’m having a hard time however understanding what you mean by both those terms. I’ve recently started digitally painting again and I’ve been trying to work with that advice and I’m getting stuck. Would it be possible for a short tutorial about this?
Thank you and have a good day!

your art needs to look like its got intent, as a beginner you will not learn essential painting techniques (conveying 3-D form, shape language, blending colours manually via eyedropper etc.) if you rely on the airbrush, blur, blend, or similar brushes

I really love your artstyle! Could I maybe get some tips on how to give variety to faces? My style has a little same face syndrome unfortunately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
personally i found that when i used to sameface its because i was afraid of making an ‘ugly’ face but!! imo an ugly but interesting face is more fun than a good-looking but boring face. go forth
