George Clooney 'The Boys in the Boat'

George Clooney 'The Boys in the Boat'
Tumblr media
Hollywood star George Clooney went overboard directing his latest movie, ‘The Boys In The Boat’, which has earned early Oscar buzz before opening in Britain Jan 12th 2024.
‘The Boys in the Boat’ is a wonderful, true story of overcoming the odds, facing defeat and winning on a global stage as underdogs against the Nazi superpower of Germany during the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. The movie, based on the best-selling book of the same name, released in 2013, focuses on the University of Washington’s men’s rowing team as they prepare to compete in the 1936 Summer Olympics – Men’s Eight.
Ian Donaldson’s song ‘Until Life Turns Your Way Again’ was chosen by George Clooney for the film. More information below:
Director: George Clooney
Writer: Daniel James Brown, Mark L. Smith
Staring: Joel Edgerton, Callum Turner, Peter Guinness
Genre: Biography, Drama, Sport
Ian elaborates:
“Bob Mair, a music publisher in Atlanta, Georgia, contacted me after he’d listened to some songs from my solo album ‘From Stars We Came’. This was 5 years ago. He told me that he particularly liked a song called ‘Until Life Turns Your Way Again’; and would I be interested in him publishing the song through his company, Black Toast? I said yes! Bob promised he would find a home for the song. To be honest, our agreement had slipped my mind until November 2022 year when Bob contacted me to say that he had found ‘the perfect movie’ for my song. I had to sit down when he told me that George Clooney had picked ‘Until Life Turns Your Way Again’ for ‘The Boys In The Boat’…
The background to the song goes like this: I wrote the song in 1987 after H20 broke up. I had become a recluse and spent my time writing songs and taking long walks. The lyric tells the story of where I was at that time. It’s not sentimental in any way. The opposite is true- I had lost my way and I knew I had to do something about it. What though? I was not sure where to start. I had been in bands since I was 15, and was now 27. My life had been a whirlwind of hit songs, Top of The Pops and successful tours… and now nothing. The next few years were tough, but I still had hope that I could do more. Fast forward 35 years and the lyric resonates with Bob Mair and George Clooney. A story within a story. You couldn’t make it up!

June - A Novel by Julie Hamill
New Post has been published on https://www.atriumtalent.com/june-novel-julie-hamill/
June - A Novel by Julie Hamill
Tumblr media
June novel by Julie Hamill – Out October 31, 2023 (Saron Publishers)
June is the highly anticipated final novel and part III of the trilogy in Julie Hamill’s 3-generation Life and Soul series. Life: as in the everyday life and struggles of a working class family and group of friends; Soul: As in the people they have lost, and if or how they are still ‘present’.
The trilogy takes place in Airdrie, Scotland during the periods of 1985 (Frank) 1989 (Jackie) and 1993 (June). Each story in Frank, Jackie and June weaves between character narratives of the strength of grief, the power of imagination and spiritual visitation; all set within the context of a classic kitchen sink drama.
Part III – Life
June is now seven years old and living with her mum, granddad and her mum’s new boyfriend. At school she notices her family seems different to what’s ‘normal’ and begins asking complicated questions about her real father. Struggling with answers, her mum, Jackie finally tells her that he is in prison, leading June to wonder if she’s ‘bad’ too.
Part III – Soul
Everyone around him says he’s unwell, but beloved priest Father Cleary is convinced he’s being visited by Frank’s wife, the late June McNeill, and she has brought some former parishioners with her. Disturbed by her eerie presence, he tries to run from his gift of sight, further into a fog of confusion.
The books are based on what people say to bring comfort into grief: ‘I was visited by a robin today, I think it was him…’ ‘I walked into a shop and our song was playing…’ ‘I could have sworn I heard her laugh…’ ‘I had such a vivid dream about them last night, as if they were there…’ ‘I felt a shiver when you said his name…’ ‘A white feather fell onto my lap, it’s a sign…’ ‘I can hear her voice in my head…’ ‘I thought I just saw them together…’
The novels examine whether there might be any truth in the coincidences seen and felt after someone close has died. The theme of love and loss is paramount, however there is much laughter in what Hamill describes as ‘the beautiful mundane’.
‘I wrote the series to comfort those in grief, and the words poured out through tears and laughter. It often goes unnoticed that love is found in the smallest moments of everyday life. The McNeills and their friends are an ordinary family who, sometimes without even realising it, get to experience the extraordinary’ – Julie Hamill
The on-sale date of Halloween is significant. The Celts believed that it was the night that the barrier between this world and the Otherworld became permeable. It is thought to be the night that deceased loved ones visit the earth as spirits or ‘souls’. A soundtrack is used throughout as an emotive tool to recall the era in the book with music dating from the 60s to the 90s, allowing readers to position exactly where they were at the time.
The novels have received immense recognition:
David Quantick, writer, EMMY winner, Veep: ‘A brilliantly written and emotional book full of wit and memorable writing. Funny, moving and full of unexpected twists.’ Andrew McGibbon, BBC Radio 4: ‘If you have ever lost someone close – these novels will take your breath away.’ Coronation Street actor, Julie Hesmondhalgh: ‘These books are so full of heart and everyday beauty. I was completely immersed.’ Jimmy McGovern, Cracker, Hillsborough, The Street: ‘A great slice of working class life.’ The Scottish Daily Record: ‘A love letter to Airdrie.’ Louder than War: ‘An emotional rollercoaster.’
5-star Amazon reviews: ‘A tour de force – poignant, funny and full of wonder, you’ll wish you were part of this Airdrie family.’ ‘Scotland’s Roddy Doyle. The characters are so real they lift off the page.’ ‘Cinematic kitchen sink drama.’

U.ME: THE MUSICAL

U.ME: THE MUSICAL
Tumblr media
BBC WORLD SERVICE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ‘U.ME: THE MUSICAL’ LAUDED WITH FOUR NEW YORK FESTIVALS RADIO AWARDS
MUSIC AND SOUND PRODUCED BY MAGNUM OPUS BROADCASTING
MUSIC AND LYRICS BY THEO JAMIESON
Steve Levine and Magnum Opus Broadcasting presented with four New York Festivals Radio Awards including a Grand Award for Best Original Music
BBC World Service mega-musical set to an explosive multi-genre score, premiered in May 2021
Starring: Stephen Fry, Anoushka Lucas, Martin Sarreal, stars of West-End musicals and students from Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA)
Me: The Musical features: The BBC Philharmonic, Music and Lyrics by Theo Jamieson, The Book by Simon Pitts and Theo Jamieson, Music Production by Steve Levine
Magnum Opus Broadcasting and acclaimed music and radio producer Steve Levine are the recipients four New York Festival Radio Awards presented at the Storytellers Gala virtual ceremony on Tuesday 26 April 2022 for their work on BBC World Service ‘U.Me: The Musical’ about and recorded during the global pandemic. Including the highest honour of a Grand Award in the Craft category for Best Original Music, ‘U.Me: the Musical’ was one of the big winners on the night.
In addition to the Grand Award, the critically acclaimed production was also awarded the Gold award for Best Music Special in the Entertainment category, Gold award for Best Sound in the Craft category and another Gold award for Best Original Music in the Craft category. The unique radio musical was also a finalist for Best Narration in the Craft category and a special documentary ‘In The Studio – The Making Of U.Me: The Musical’ was finalist in the Documentary category for Culture & The Arts.
Premiering on BBC World Service on 12 May 2021, ‘U.Me: The Musical’ was created, recorded and produced during the Covid-19 global pandemic respecting the isolation of the musicians  and performers who were all recorded remotely.
Steve Levine added: “I think it’s one of the hardest projects I’ve ever been involved in as a music producer. On a normal record you maybe have 20 to 40 tracks for the band, but on something like this, on certain tracks, we’re into 300 to 400 tracks, because all the musicians recorded at home. It was quite a mammoth task. Some had quite good studio set ups, others you could hear dogs barking in the background.”
‘U.Me: The Musical’ is an international love story, based around two young people on opposite sides of the world who meet online during the pandemic and make a true connection, with the glorious accompaniment of the BBC Philharmonic, emotional performances by lead actors Anoushka Lucas and Martin Sarreal, brilliantly witty and heart-warming music and lyrics by Theo Jamieson and a special guest narration by Stephen Fry.
‘U.Me: The Musical’ is now available to listen to and watch via BBC Sounds and bbcworldservice.com/musical.
Bringing together an incredible team, ‘U.Me: The Musical’ is a regional UK production for UK and international audiences on BBC World Service and features words and music by Theo Jamieson (previously music director for ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ and ‘Here Lies Love’), music production by Liverpool-based Steve Levine (famed for his work with Culture Club, The Clash and The Beach Boys) and casting by Will Burton (Casting Director for the likes of ‘Matilda’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’). The book was written by Simon Pitts and Theo Jamieson and the musical is created by Simon Pitts, BBC World Service.
Magnum Opus Broadcasting is an audio production company established to create high-value programming content and concepts for broadcast radio. Magnum Opus Productions have included the award winning and acclaimed  ‘The Record Producers’ which ran for multiple seasons and told the story of creating a record from a producers point of view. Recent work includes the walking audio tour for the Mary Wilson exhibition at the V&A Museum, and a BBC World Service “In The Studio” documentary with Patrick Woodroffe working on ‘The Last Domino? Tour’ with Genesis. The documentary includes contributions from Genesis founder members Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks and won a New York Festivals Radio Bronze Award.

The latest single from Ian Donaldson ‘All I Have is Forever’ is being released on Alan McGee’s exciting new record label It’s Creation, Baby on Friday 21st January 2022.
“What is the song about? An Angel who would give absolutely anything to be human. To trade in immortality to feel the sun on his skin. To experience love, loss, hurt, joy and family” – Ian Donaldson
Introduced to Craig Walker of Power of Dreams and Archive (formerly of Dublin, now residing in Berlin) via legendary music supremo Alan McGee, Ian and Craig instantly hit it off – sharing a love of sounds including David Bowie, Scott Walker and The Jam amongst others.
Ian and Craig developed the track together, Craig sending Ian cool music and Ian developing melodies and lyrics. Once they hit StellaSound Studio in Clydebank they recorded the vocal and harmonies, and added atmospheric guitars from Pedro Andre, who also performs guitar live on Ian’s tours.
The track was mastered by the legendary Geoff Pesche at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, London.

Creation Stories Film World Premiere – 24th February 2021 at the Glasgow Film Festival

An exciting new biopic about the legendary music executive Alan McGee, founder of Creation Records: the label behind the successes of Oasis, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain amongst others. A marketing genius with an ear for genre-defining music, Alan made his mark right across every aspect of British culture.
This British comedy is based upon McGee’s autobiography, titled ‘The Creation Records Story: Riots, Raves And Running A Label’.
The Creation Stories film reunites the iconic Trainspotting team of Danny Boyle (Executive Producer) and Irvine Welsh (Scriptwriter- along with Dean Cavanagh).
Directed by Nick Moran (Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels) Creation Stories features a stellar cast including Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting) as Alan. Speaking to Sky News, Danny Boyle comments on this inspired choice of Bremner: “…they’ve also cast Ewen Bremner as Alan McGee, which is casting heaven. I can’t think of a better piece of casting that I’ve ever heard”.
Other acting talents include:
Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter)
Rupert Everett (Shakespeare in Love)
Steven Berkoff (A Clockwork Orange, Octopussy)
Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button)
Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones)
Suki Waterhouse (Love, Rosie)

Rufus Jones (Paddington, Stan & Ollie)
Perry Benson (Quadrophenia, Sid and Nancy)
Mel Raido (Legend)
Comedian Ed Byrne
Leo Flanagan (Hanna)
Nick Moran describes the biopic in a press release: “part cautionary tale, part cavalier romp, mostly hilarious, occasionally sobering, and constantly engaging.… An irresistible trip down memory lane, or a delightful history lesson about the last great days of rock’n’roll. When Britannia ruled the airwaves, thanks to one man with his misfit mates and their indie record label that briefly changed history.”
Creation Stories premieres at the Glasgow Film Festival between 8.30pm on Wednesday 24 February until 8.30pm on Saturday 27 February, before being made available for wider release on March 20th at Sky Cinema.

Kirsty Wark - The Years That Changed Modern Scotland
Tumblr media
Kirsty Wark new BBC Scotland series – The Years That Changed Modern Scotland (in conjunction with Two Rivers Media)
Over the last half century, the way Scots live, play, work and vote has been transformed. Kirsty Wark explores these changes through the memories of those who experienced them.
Episode 1 ‘Scotland for Sale’ starts tomorrow 10pm BBC Scotland (Scotland only), and it is also available to view live and on catch up (including in the rest of the UK) on BBC iPlayer
Read The Scotsman reporting on the series here
In this first episode of The Years That Changed Modern Scotland, Kirsty Wark looks at the 1970s and the start of the 1980s and reveals that while this period is often remembered for miners’ strikes, three day weeks and power cuts, it was also a time of rising consumerism, oil powered optimism and urban renewal. These were the years when Scots discovered leisure, when Highland yards constructed engineering marvels and when Scotland began to see itself, and sell itself, as distinctively Scottish.
Kirsty visits Irvine to look at the ambitious plans that were devised for Scotland’s new towns, and discovers how installing indoor toilets in Govan tenements revolutionised our approach to urban living. She also reveals how the coming of oil changed communities, how theatre roused the Highlands, and how the new Scottish Tourist Board rebranded the country.
This people’s history will tell the stories of these years through the memories of those who experienced them – featuring individuals and families from across Scotland, along with a host of familiar faces. Kirsty will hear from Val McDermid and Ian Rankin on the culture that shaped them, from Bill Patterson and Alex Norton on their revolutionary theatre tour of the Highlands and from Roseanna Cunningham MSP and Alistair Darling on the political changes of the era.
Episode 2 ‘Getting Creative’ featuring Alan McGee broadcasts 12th January 10pm (news to follow)

The Third Day Trailer Soundtrack Wondrous Place Natalie McCool
Here, in an exclusive interview, we gain an insight into the creative process behind Wondrous Place from Natalie McCool (Female Artist of the Year, LMA’s) and Grammy and BRIT Award winning record producer, Steve Levine.
Tell us about the recording of Wondrous Place. How was this song decided upon?
Natalie: NME and Q journalist Paul du Noyer asked me to record a track that was listed in his book Liverpool: Wondrous Place to perform at his panel at the Threshold Festival in Liverpool.
I decided upon this song because whilst I was at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts I won an award from the Billy Fury Foundation which enabled me to purchase musical equipment; I felt very grateful to them and wanted to honour that. So I chose the Billy Fury song Wondrous Place.
When I was arranging the piece for the Threshold Festival performance, I just listened to the lyrics at first. If you examine the lyrics in isolation, they actually seem a little unsettling and almost desperate, i.e. desperate for someone’s attention and love.
So I thought about the backdrop I wanted to create for these lyrics, and started playing around with my Boss DD-7 delay guitar pedal, which has an amazing ‘warp’ function, which basically overlays what you are playing over and over again, not like a delay, it’s more like an electronic drone.
“I created this drone sound which swells throughout the track until it sounds like it’s out of control, which I thought resembled the feel of the lyrics. The lyrics are very intimate so that is the way I wanted to perform them, almost as though it’s right next to your ear.”
I also had this gospel sound I wanted to create vocally –  but more sombre than joyful – there’s a hum melody that comes in later on which I wanted to layer with very low harmony to add to the unsettling feel.
I initially recorded the guitars at Tankfield Studios on the Wirral, then went into the studio with Steve to record the vocals and finish the track. We added some extra textures to add atmosphere, and also some drums at the end when the track reaches its highest point.
youtube
Steve: Wondrous Place happened to be one of my favourite Billy Fury recordings – in fact I’m a big fan of the FURY album because I feel that album was really ahead of its time in terms of sound and production, and it also allowed Billy to have a lot of artistic freedom which was extremely rare for its time. Our sessions were one of the first to take place at my new Liverpool recording studio.
We were a few years into our working relationship, having completed Natalie’s eponymous album and a number of other tracks. By this time we were working really well together, and had created a darker sound for Natalie’s track Black Sun during those sessions.
We really built it from that standpoint. Natalie had her white Elise Fret King guitar for these sessions, and we were also experimenting with various guitar FX pedals.
“Natalie’s vocal (which is always superb) is also complemented with a 3 part harmony toward the end of the track, and I also added some electronic beat sounds. We didn’t want to fill out the track too much, so these are relatively moderate drum beats.”
Mixing was fairly straightforward as there weren’t that many tracks to playback. Most of the sounds on this recording had been created using guitars and FX pedals, they were also layered where necessary with a ‘mix’ or blend created as we went along.
Why do you both think this track was chosen for the show?
Steve: There’s an exciting current trend to have a dark minimal ‘Nordic’ style sound on TV drama at the moment: for example I love the Chernobyl soundtrack which features so many drone tones and dark ambiences. This show is produced by the same team so I guess they are really drawn to that sound – I feel it’s just so ahead of the curve sonically.
Natalie: I feel my version of Wondrous Place was chosen because of the storyline and what I imagine the world visually to be in the show.
“To me, it seems post apocalyptic; nobody on the island seems to know why they are there, or where everyone else has gone. These survivors are looking for answers in the deserted landscape surrounding them.”
There is a lot of space within the track, a lot of ‘ether’, and it creates an unsettling feeling within the listener. I think they matched the song to the show incredibly well.
Describe your usual writing style Natalie. Do music or lyrics come first? What genres do you prefer? Which artists are you most drawn to?
It very much depends on how I’m feeling as I’m writing, but as above I place a lot of importance on the lyrics. That’s just me personally – I believe a song should tell a story. And you can’t have a story without words; and colourful, fluid writing definitely captivates people. I really like hearing the story behind the lyrics too.
One of my favourites is Woodstock by Joni Mitchell for this reason – she never made it to the festival everyone has an anecdote about, but wrote about it from an outsider’s point of view, watching the news, reading the papers.
It’s really interesting, and it also gives a lot to the listening experience. I also really like how PJ Harvey always has a story to tell and something to say. She is great at twisting characters or showing the vulnerability in people – Is This Desire is a beautiful album for this.
Having said that about lyrics, I also like a lot of different styles, some artists I can’t stop listening to right now are: Torres; Husky Loops; Rosie Lowe; Weldon Irvine and Ayelle.
There’s a lot more, but those are the most recent artists I’ve been listening to. I have my own Spotify playlist I update bi-monthly, with (mainly) new discoveries. It’s called The Magic Number, because it always features 7 tracks, and 7 is my lucky number!
What is the special ingredient that makes each of you unique? What have you been influenced by for this track?
Steve: I have a great understanding of sound, and the instruments artists can use, so I can show them lots of sonic options- I also have a great studio, so I can track and record almost anything. I think I really try to understand what the artist is trying to achieve sonically, or arrangement wise.
Natalie: It might be the way I treat vocals as something really intimate, more like a whispered message rather than belting them out talent-show style. It’s just more interesting to me. Wondrous Place lyrics inspired that.
Tell us about your guitar style Natalie. How many instruments on your tracks do you typically play?
Natalie: I first learnt guitar going inbetween learning rock (for example Nirvana and Radiohead), then fingerpicking i.e. Lindsey Buckingham/Fleetwood Mac, Suzanne Vega and Classical guitar. I really enjoy doing both.
“At the moment I play electric guitar, and enjoy experimenting with pedals to create sounds that do and don’t sound like a guitar within my songs, in addition to playing the rhythm part, and also solo parts. I love guitar and always try to find a unique sound, part or method. I’m really not your regular guitarist at all!”
Recently I have gotten into playing piano / keys more. I did a stripped back session of my latest single Someone Nue on piano, which I filmed and recorded live – you can watch that on YouTube. I really enjoyed the whole process. Who knows, maybe a piano album is coming!!
What is on the horizon career wise for you both?
Steve: Recently I produced the music for the Hyperbrawl video game; the game development studio (Milky Tea) were very specific about the sound and feel they wanted to create. With my background I was able to bring those sounds and production tricks to the party.
I have also been writing and working on electronic project Pretty Robotic which has recently attracted television synch deals, including for the BBC which is exciting. I have also just completed production on the new Vapors album, due out around March 2020.
Natalie: I’m doing (and want to do) a lot! I’m about to play a number of UK dates and festivals. I’m also gearing up to release a new single next month, and I’m playing at US showcase festival SXSW in Austin, Texas, which I’m excited about.
It’s the biggest showcase music festival annually, and I can’t wait to perform stateside and looking forward to connecting with like minded people, whoever they are. My album is finished and I can’t wait to release it. I am feeling in the best place ever with my live set and band, and can’t wait for my live shows this year.
Aside from my own albums, I also write for a lot of different projects, including for film and television. I have two separate projects right now which I’m hugely excited about. They are completely different from what I do as an artist, but it’s always good to have something different to feed into your main project.
What’s the best piece of industry advice you’ve been given?
Steve: Take regular breaks during a session (you can get cabin fever very fast!) and communicate – things always go wrong when there is lack of communication. Try and really understand what the artist wants to try and achieve – and try to get as close as possible to their vision.
“Another important piece of advice is that great studio ‘mistakes’ can lead to exciting sonic pathways, so never be scared to try something different!”
Natalie: Practice like the devil, and always be friendly!

Natalie McCool News Feb 2020
Natalie McCool News Feb 2020 | Singer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist Natalie McCool shines as a major star in the UK indie world, having risen through the ranks and amassed a ton of organic support and critical acclaim. With a new album on the horizon, she gives us the first taste of what’s to come with her alluring single ‘Someone Nue‘.
Known for her truly innovative and beautiful take on pop music, the newest release from the alternative pop tour-de-force (and LMA Female Artist of the Year) uses simple textures and minimal soundscapes to create another slick, sonic gem.  Having written, produced and recorded the track in its entirety, ‘Someone Nue’ is yet another stellar solo effort from Natalie McCool.  It’s a beautiful track that is made even more special with her incredibly vivid songwriting that evokes feelings of fresh starts and a voice that is soft yet so captivating.
Speaking on the new track, Natalie shared: “I wrote this song about the creeping feeling you get when you know something is over.  A “Nue” is a legendary Japanese spirit of ill omen; a shapeshifting phantom which sometimes appears as a black cloud.  This was a perfect theme to bring to the lyrics because it represents the creeping dread you feel when you slowly realise the truth and what it represents.  I wanted to weave this theme into the whole single concept including the video design which has a yin / yang feel to it, where you are watching something pure being spoiled.”
Making her first steps into music when she won a national songwriting competition judged by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Natalie McCool has excelled as a well-rounded artist.
Releasing her debut album ‘The Great Unknown’ in 2016, it has made tastemakers across the board fans of her exceptional art, the likes of The Sunday Times, Q, Line of Best Fit, as well as BBC Radio 1 DJs Huw Stephens and Alice Levine.
Her new album is a fine collection of songs which channel her raw, inimitable writing style.  Partly co-written with The Wombats’ Daniel Haggis, they capture and crystallize her memories from both childhood and adulthood, weaving deeply intimate stories that channel life’s most vital thoughts and feelings like love, jealousy and loss into a skewed mixture of lilting yet gloriously catchy pop songs.  With an official showcase at SXSW in March announced and her forthcoming album fully wrapped up, it will set the tone for such an ambitious and exciting act.
“One of the finest emerging songwriters around” – BBC Radio 1 / BBC Introducing
“Quickly buries itself under your skin with its mechanically brushed drums and jazz-inflected pangs of lovesick fragility” – Q Magazine

‘Jackie’ (A Novel, part II) by Julie Hamill
New Post has been published on http://www.atriumtalent.com/jackie-a-novel-part-ii-by-julie-hamill/
‘Jackie’ (A Novel, part II) by Julie Hamill
‘Jackie’ is the second in the ‘Life And Soul’ Trilogy and continues the story with the adventures of Jackie (Frank’s daughter). Jackie discovers a secret from her mother’s past and struggles to find love for herself as a single mum in 1980s small town Scotland.  The secondary plot of this book also focuses on the character Daniel, who is in turmoil over his sexuality amidst a context of terrifying television adverts and leaflets about HIV.  Jackie launched on 15 October and has seen the series praised by the likes of Jimmy McGovern (Cracker), Wayne Hussey (The Mission) and Scottish politician George Galloway.
This October London-based Scottish author and broadcaster Julie Hamill is delighted to see the release of the eagerly awaited sequel to Frank (2017), her latest novel, Jackie, via Saron Publishers.  The book is the second in the Life and Soul Series about the McNeill family and their ongoing lives after the loss of mum/wife June.  Whilst the trilogy is focused on the theme of grief, it is written with Hamill’s natural comedic flair for dialogue that adds to believability of the typical working class characters.
The story is set in Airdrie, Scotland and Jackie sees Frank’s daughter still trying to make sense of her dead mother’s past and try to uncover a secret that has been kept from her.  In doing so Jackie finds more than she bargained for and has to encourage a reluctant Frank to reveal the truth.  Jackie also shows the struggle of a single mum trying to find love and includes a secondary plotline about Jackie’s friend Daniel who struggles with his sexuality amidst a media context of terrifying AIDS adverts and leaflets.

There is also a Spotify playlist for Frank https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1lvsfCoND3SXpuTvgfRlN0?si=quwHkaZtSSakIyXqHLJGYA
The Life and Soul series has received praise from Emmy award winning writer David Quantick (Veep, Brass Eye, The Day Today, Harry Hill, Harry Enfield, Smack The Pony) ‘A brilliant and funny read.  A beautifully-written and emotional book full of wit and memorable writing.’
Award-winning Cracker screenwriter Jimmy McGovern has also declared his love for the series:  ‘I really enjoyed Frank; it’s a great slice of working class life’.
Wayne Hussey from The Mission is a fan of Julie’s writing, describing ‘Frank is a little beauty’, as has Coronation Street actress Julie Hesmondhalgh and BBC Comedy writer Andrew McGibbon and many others.
Julie has received extensive welcoming coverage from the Scottish Daily newspapers

Julie has been invited on the prestigious Alan McGee show to discuss her work and the link to the interview can be found here: https://www.mixcloud.com/BoogalooRadio/riots-raves-and-running-a-label-special-guest-texas-bob-feat-julie-hamill/
Books one and two in the Life and Soul series Frank and Jackie are now available from Amazon and all good book shops.  Frank has received forty-five Amazon reviews, and Jackie, only released on Tuesday is already receiving massive accolades in the literary industry.
