“Let you go? Why would I ever do that?” he murmured more to himself than anything.
He slipped off the bracelet she’d given him just the evening before and slid it down easily over her hand. She watched him incredulously the entire time, wincing when he firmly tugged the string to tighten it around her wrist.
“What are you-” she began, but he shook his head, and her lips clamped shut.
“You’re not resigning, or going anywhere, for that matter,” he continued, running his thumb over the beads. It felt more right than when it was on him.
LORDVOLDEMORT.
“You’re staying right here.”
Hermione looked up at him in surprise, and Tom watched, mesmerized, as the stray droplets of tears that had been clinging to her thick eyelashes converged into one on her freckled cheek before sliding down the side of her nose. It finally came to rest on her trembling lips, and Tom felt a spark of inspiration.
Or, rather, a sudden lapse of his normally iron-clad self-control.
