It's genuinely heartbreaking to know Edwyn's biggest goal is to get into a good college, and get a job that he deems will impress Laurel and Emmit to show them how grateful he was for them actually sticking around and being his parents.

Knowing that he doesn't think that he deserved them as parents.

And knowing that he never graduates high school, knowing he never got to run to them after the ceremony and hug them. Knowing that he drops out of high school because of stress, and everyone in their classes think he's being dramatic.

Knowing that he doesn't think he deserves Rowan because he can't even manage to graduate high school. Knowing that he's not going to go to anyone for help because he doesn't want to burden them.
