Jo! Do you have a keepsake from your parents too? And if you don't mind me asking, what happened to them?

* Oh, no, actually, I don’t. We kinda left the capital in a hurry and the thought that I’d ever need a ‘memento‘ well... I’m glad Nox at least has something, though, and I get to see it on her every day, so...not as bad as it could be.

* (Her mood sours at the send part of the question) Nothing particularly uncommon. They died. Same song, different tune as everywhere in the fucking Underground.

* (There seems to be more to it than she’s letting on, but Jo also doesn’t seem inclined to share at the moment.)

Nox, have YOU ever gotten lost in the forest while you were rearranging it? Or jo?

Jo rolls her eyes. “Yeah, it’s happened a few times, though less as the years have passed. I’ve got a good sense of direction once I’m in the air, so it’s usually fine.”

Nox rubs at her head, a little sheepish but grinning. “I’m pretty good at what I do, thankfully - I’ve always had a knack for puzzles, and the forest is basically a massive labyrinthian puzzle I make to be as nigh-unsolvable as possible.” She shakes her head though, adding, “I’ve never gotten lost. Because we’ve been in the forest so long now especially, the trees and honestly most of the surviving plants down here all have a trace of my magic in them - so I can feel stronger traces down to minute amounts, and can feel the differentiations in span and banding and more that clue me in to where their normal area they ‘live’ in is - it’s something I can follow. I also take winding routes everytime to further confuse any potential chance of spotting a pattern in the trees movements, so really I’ve got it mapped out perfectly, especially thanks to the tree roots that I shift.”

She glances again up to Jo, adding, “Jo’s really skilled at tracking and navigating, particularly in the air. The only times nowadays she might have to break to keep from getting lost is when a whiteout blizzard is rolling through the Snowdin cavern.”

I'm curious, is the thing in nox's hair(?) a family heirloom or something significant? Or is it just for aesthetic™?

Nox lights up, one of her hands floating up to the stone band.

“Actually, both! I am a bit of a sucker for aesthetic.” She grins, her finger running over the softly glowing crystals set into one side of it. “My mom actually got it for me when I was young, when it became apparent that my leaves react at least slightly to my shifting mood - I kept accidentally floofing up when I was excited, not unlike an actual tree’s boughs - so, uh, I kept knocking things over. After a while she came home with it one day, and I’ve worn it everyday since - the crystals are from Waterfall... She was pretty quiet as a person overall when it came to sharing a lot, but I think she got them herself.”

She looks off to the side, her other two hands twining together. “We didn’t get to leave the Capital with... well, pretty much anything, so this is actually all I properly have left of her.” She laughs though, but just the once. “Just like Mom, really... all about practicality, and that’s still what shines through even long after having been turned to dust.”
