Actually let's make a separate post for this one. Look at this piece of official rain world art.

It's sick af it might be my favorite rw piece. So I'm gonna ramble about technical art stuff that it does that I think is neat.

First let's look at the layout. It's got a very distinct foreground middle ground background layering that you can break down like this

With these layers you can put a lot of Stuff in the background without any of the important parts getting lost. If you look at any small section of the piece you'll see Ten Billion wires, plants, metal sticking out, shadows, anything and everything. But since it's all grouped together on the same layer, it sorta fades into the background as Background and you don't lose the main shapes.

The scant use of purple/pink is also very neat. The purple is eye catching. The artist wants you to look at the purple stuff. But some of it isn't important at all, like the curling plants - they aren't supposed to be looked at directly, exactly, but they still lead the eyes around where they're wanted.

Your eye goes from the pink lizard at the top to the dragonslayer symbol to the slugcat, where it lingers for a moment, framed by the purple plants, then you eventually follow the plants and the pole up, the chain left, back to the lizard. The path your eye is supposed to follow is highlighted for you.

Okay last thing I want to talk about. The thing the tags at the beginning of the post actually mention. The secondary light source.

It's pink yeah like I was saying about eye movement. But also. It defines the slugcat. Look at this edited version without the pink light.

The tail gets lost. The foot gets lost. The slugcat becomes part of the scenery instead of the focus. The intended focus is so much more boring to look at then the little lizard.

So yeah I'm obsessed with rain world art I'm obsessed with this piece in particular. Study it and break it down ok <3

How would dark enchantress cookie interact with white lily in your au?

Dark Enchantress isn't brash- she knows when she's been beat, and she also knows that if she wants to try again for everything she worked for, it'd have to come a loooong time in the future. Because of this, she's rather amicable and willing to be on good terms with others, even if it's just beneficial objectively to do so. Unfortunately, on the other end of that White Lily is very paranoid, cautious, and emotional- she sees DE as everything wrong and awful and corrupt about her, and is terrified of even beginning to sympathize with her other as a person. This is to both of their detriment- she locks Dark Enchantress away and often ignores her, even if she's not doing or saying anything particularly upsetting. They probably could reconcile, but neither are anywhere near the headspace to do so. Instead, White Lily continues to project her paranoia onto Pure Vanilla and Hollyberry, whom express the desire to be amicable or friendly with their corresponding Beasts one day. She can't help but be certain they'll end up manipulated or controlled.

ohhh i love your facets of knowledge au!!! it's giving me immense brain rot but i want to ask, after the ancients sealed the beast inside the soul jam were there any complications afterwards? i would imagine the first few days of being sealed, some (sm most likely) would throw a fuse at being sealed again, and how do the ancients handle during that??

wagh thank you so much!! Brain rot 🤝 And yes, you're right on the money- the first month or so was agonizing for most of the Ancients, whose willpower is all that's standing between the Beasts and the Soul Jam. Most tried all they could to gain control, Shadow Milk cookie especially - "blowing a fuse" is putting it lightly, really. The fit he throws in canon is nothing compared to the hours of angry insults and jabs that began the two's sharing of a body, and even worse, Pure Vanilla can FEEL every inch of deep-seated vicious anger emanating from Shadow Milk. It's not long before he realizes the other isn't as affected as he'd like by the outrage, so he switches to and utilizes most what he knows best- trickery. For their early time together, Pure Vanilla is constantly subject to visions and other hallucinations induced by Shadow Milk, doing everything possible to manipulate, guilt trip, traumatize, and break him into submitting his soul jam. PV doesn't fully give in, of course, but that doesn't mean it isn't harrowing. It's all he can do to keep his sense of self and not snap under it- he's certainly the type to have dealt with moral intrusive thoughts before, but this was on another level. It's unfortunately pretty easy to figure out what makes PV tick and what'll hurt him most, which SM used to his advantage fully for a while.

Eventually Shadow Milk does bore of this too, letting up on his relentless attack, and Pure Vanilla is inspired by Hollyberry to try and help the corrupted. However, for the time the Beast had almost full control over the Truth-bearing Ancient's shoestring mental state.

..In what way do you think Mystic Flour would try to push Cacao towards Apathy?

Hmm, well we don't know much about Mystic Flour, but we do know they represent the side of Volition that is Apathy when corrupted. If a Beast is able to turn the Soul Jams to their corrupted aspect, it'll give them control of it as well. Once they figure out they can't overtly force the Ancients into this, they'll likely try more subtle tactics in one way or another. I hesitate to say Mystic Flour would give up or stop caring, but perhaps they would try to sway Dark Cacao by convincing him to constrict his circle of cookies he cares for smaller and smaller in the name of "protecting" them. That's just a rough idea, however- it's hard to tell details until we see more of Mystic Flour cookie themself.

Hello!! what are the other ancients dynamics with their respective beasts like? Are they also learning to get along or is that unique to SM and PV?

Hi, thank you so much for the ask!! Since we don't know much at all about the other Beasts, it's hard to determine what their relationships with the other Ancients would be like. However, there're some light predictions that can be made!

- Hollyberry cookie, holder of the Light of Passion, is likely trying to befriend Eternal Sugar cookie, but Eternal Sugar goads her into giving in to her indulgences such as berry juice, hoping to get Holly to turn to Sloth as well. After all, they both represent Happiness. Hollyberry honestly believes she can turn the other back, however, an admirable belief that Pure Vanilla picked up on when deciding how to treat Shadow Milk cookie.

- Mystic Flour cookie and Dark Cacao both respresent Volition- however, due to Mystic Flour's apathetic disposition, the two clash very often, and they're very against any change or compromise. Dark Cacao sees Mystic Flour's apathy as an inherent betrayal of the kingdom's subjects and refuses to listen.

- Burning Spice cookie and Golden Cheese would likely see eye to eye at first, both being super driven and representative of Change. However, Golden Cheese is driven to Abundance, desiring only the best for themselves and others, but Burning Spice only wants to destroy and raze. They would likely get into arguments often, only working together in desperation.

- White Lily has the most complicated and unpleasant lot of the bunch, unfortunately. She not only has to contain Silent Salt cookie, but she has also been reunited with her other Self steeped in destruction, Dark Enchantress cookie. Due to her multiple bad experiences with corrupted reflections of herself, she's the most resistant to any sort of idea of redemption for the Beasts than the other Ancients. Thankfully, she's also the least likely to be corrupted- Dark Enchantress is incapable of using the Light of Freedom, and Silent Salt has taken to, well... Silently brooding and ominously watching over things, for the most part. While all three fall under the overarching virtue of Change, she's the most resistant to a different mindset. White Lily is rather fearful of any corruption happening again, which is why she's also rather scared & resistant to Pure Vanilla's comparatively casual relationship with Shadow Milk cookie. Even seeing him simply humoring him terrifies her; she cares deeply about him and doesn't want him to be harmed by the other's lies, an understandable position considering everything.

Cookie Run: Facets of Knowledge AU

" The Virtue of Knowledge holds two sides to it; Truth and Deceit. Only together can they truly understand its depths. "

Not so much a complete AU as a likely canon divergence, this 'verse is set after Dark Enchantress's defeat. Her attempt to free the Beasts from their eternal prison by creating new bodies for them ended catastrophically. The only way to keep them all at bay was to seal them within the Soul Jams carried by each of the Ancients, as well as within their own bodies. This came with its benefits and drawbacks- after all, the threat has been tamed for as long as the Ancients remain uncorrupted. Not only that, but the reuniting of the Soul Jams' other halves magnified the Ancients' power beyond imagining- as its main holders, it's all in their control now, out of reach of the Beasts.

The complications, of course, come with the continued presence of the Beasts within the Ancients. They may not have any powers, no, but they can certainly be heard by the Ancients they've been sealed within - even seen as a projection of the Soul Jam's magic. Pure Vanilla Cookie knows he's in no danger from Shadow Milk Cookie as long as he doesn't mentally give in to his lies. However, that doesn't stop the comments, the perspectives, or the presence he brings. Sealed together, they have to learn to understand each other deeper than either expected, and slowly, each begin to open their eyes to the other's views and experiences.

- Shadow Milk Cookie can project himself outwardly into the world using the Light of Truth, but in almost all cases, the only one that can see, hear, or feel him is Pure Vanilla Cookie. This leads to quite a few reactions to seemingly "nothing" from the outside, which took a long while for the other cookies around him to get used to.

- Shadow Milk gets bored very often due to not having a physical body or the ability to interact with most cookies, so he often resorts to pestering Pure Vanilla in one way or another. PV found that ignoring him only makes it worse, so he'll often engage in giving hypothetical answers to SM's ridiculous lines of questioning. This tends to result in either an absurdly niche philosophy discussion or a yes-and fantasy lasting on-and-off for days.

- Distrust is rampant between the two, of course, which is beneficial for neither of them. Pure Vanilla is convinced Shadow Milk wants nothing but to control Earthbread once more, and SM thinks PV wants nothing more than to lock him away somewhere dark and eternal. Both are partially right, but they are forced to learn the depths of the others' perspective and understand how their defining traits are reflections of each other, stemming from the same place.

- Because of this, they slowly begin to understand each other. To trust each other. To let down the walls, because really... Who else would ever be able to comprehend them like the other?

- Pure Vanilla still refuses to trust him enough to let Shadow Milk take control of the body, though. After all, control of the body would hypothetically mean control of the Soul Jam, and he can't let himself risk the fate of Earthbread once more. Sure doesn't stop SM from pestering, begging, bargaining, and more to try!

- Arguments are surprisingly rare, because if both of them get too deep into their heated debate, they get uncomfortably close to the reality of how similar they are to each other; this tends to make them back off.

- Both of them also feel this discomfort when the other is genuinely feeling mentally unwell, as viewing the other's complexity reflects on their own they wish to conceal. This can result in an awkward attempt to cheer the other up or help the situation, if nothing else to simply remove the shared disconcertion.

(If anybody's honestly interested in learning details for this AU, send in an ask! I might even draw doodles for the replies. this au is also where this sorta popular doodle comes from)
