some director’s notes on my recent comic

I’m proud of this comic and it was challenging to figure out how to mix past and present so I have notes !

Okay. First up. Accidental genius placement my belvoed. The first panels was supposed to be a focus on the peacock. Seeing Oswald’s perspective before he reels back into The Now. The accidental placement is how Ed’s face kind of aligns with it. The reference I used for the peacock originally did not turn out well in execution I couldn’t draw it well enough, so I didn’t expect how the newer one would balance better with Ed’s head shots

Here I bring your focus to the speech bubbles. They fly around Oswald. Flying over his head. He registers them but… he’s not all the way here. This is an important note. It builds up.

As they progress you notice Ed’s presence lessens. We see less of his face. It’s Oswald’s pov but it’s like everything is crowding in on him. The last panel especially it zoomed in it’s like he’s in a tight room and can’t register anything beside himself, and barely so.

here Oswald fully cuts off. It’s more dream like hence the wavey lines. He’s kissing Edward but he’s not focusing he’s not really there he’s thinking of the peacock. Then there is the shot of his hand reaching out for the peacock and then the ‘dream’ stops with older!oswald getting hurt.

This is the page that brings Oswald back. He’s frozen in his spot as if he was just pulled out of water, but he’s slowly coming back. First panel. Ed blends in with the background, even his speech bubbles do. Second panel, Oswald notices Edward and hens starting to come back.

The way the second panel spreads is something I like it kind of makes a sense of movement which I honestly didn’t intend. Further more, it spreads, bringing us closer, taking the whole page, building up for the next Page. I like to use pink and warm tones for soft romantic scenes

Again with the dissociation but the peacock is in the background, Oswald is more aware of the kiss now, of the sensations.

Stead panels but it also blends in to the past. It’s only thoughts now not dissociation. The pink in the first panel blends into blue of the past. I purposely mirrored Oswald’s hand with his younger hand to emphasize how the missing finger is the same finger that was bitten. Then it ties up to his mother and all the cozy pink colors as opposed to before.
