you know it's one thing to talk about eddie being well aware of what he's doing and all the ways it isn't healthy but not being able to stop himself from going back for more and how it's going to come back and bite him in the ass and another thing completely to hear him first confess that yes he is doing this thing but it's not like that but that he doesn't know what he wants out from it and then say out loud that it worries him just as much as it worries buck and then see him try to do the right thing only to immedately be drawn right back in again and have this cathartic moment of finally putting himself first by vocalizing all that pain and grief and confusion he's been carrying around for years and admit that as a result of that he feels broken only for it to come right back and bite him in the ass

The worst thing about Chris seeing Kim in that particular moment was that it was the first time Eddie allowed himself to be the priority, to address his own feelings for Shannon over Chris, to choose himself and express himself. And then immediately he was punished for it, proving all his fears right. That taking something good for himself out of that fucked up situation would harm his son. If he had told Kim to go instead of allowing himself to get the closure, Chris would never have been subjected to his fuck up. If only he hadn't been selfish, Chris would not have been hurt.

I find this incredibly tragic.
