‘Our Way,’ A Poem,
And I know,
It gets harder each day,
And I know,
That if you had it your way,
All your demons would be lost,
Every one of them gone,
But at what cost?
I can’t help but think;
When reality goes a little too far,
Who’s going to be there to hold me?
Kiss away my scar,
And stay by my side?
Whose voice like a siren’s song,
Will hum me to sleep?
Who’ll tell me to stay strong,
And to just let time do its thing?
Whose arms will I call home,
When the world turns away?
Who’ll tell me I’m not alone?
Not today and not ever again,
Who will wipe away my tears?
Promise me that I’m safe,
From all of my fears,
And all else to come,
Your demons would disappear from inside,
If you had it your way,
It’s them you’d lie beside,
Six feet underground,
Scars litter wrists bone thin,
Darkness beneath your eyes,
Ribs break out from beneath your skin,
A bird too small to fly,
At night in the bathroom, I hear you cry,
I listen to your muffled sobs,
As you whisper, ‘Why?’
And I just want you to be okay,
You hide behind a smile too wide,
A sight so lugubrious,
So many times you’ve lied,
By saying you’re fine,
I want to be strong for you too,
But I’m not even half,
As strong as you,
So I’ll stand from a distance,
I’ll try to be strong with you,
Convince you the world’s not so bad,
Just tell me what I can do,
And do it, I will,
How easy it would be to forget,
To give it all up,
But I can’t let you go just yet,
Not today and not ever again,
I’m not letting you have it your way,
I’ll go down on my knees,
And I’ll beg you to stay,
Come home to my arms.
Dedicated to the people who’ve been strong for too long; You don’t have to be so alone anymore
